SOME REFLECTIONS ABOUT A FRIEND AND EDUCATOR MR. JOSEPH T. KENNEALLY A Man . who saw wrong and tried to correct it. . who saw unhappiness and tried to con- sole it. . who saw discontent and tried to create harmony. . who at times was misunderstood. . whose voice sometimes did not express what his heart truly telt. . who dedicated his life to education, his family and his church. whose sense of humor brought a pleasant smile to everyone he passed. . who accepted many difficult tasks wil- lingly, and gave of himself to achieve im- possible goals. Edna McNamara The death of Mr. Joseph Kenneally, Principal of Doherty Memorial High School, was a profound shock to the entire community of the Worcester Public Schools. Such a loss creates a gulf among the principals of Worcester ' s sec- ondary schools which will be difficult to fill. I knew him as a fellow teacher in 1950 at Providence Street Junior High School. Together, I as Principal, and he as Assistant Prin- cipal, planned and implemented the opening of Doherty Memorial High School in 1966. I knew him well. He was a close friend, but more, he was a friend and pleasant companion to his fellow teachers and administration. He had a deep interest in the educational and personal welfare of the students with whom he worked. As a professionally trained and highly skilled public school administrator, his loss will be felt by us all. Our sympathy goes out to his family and friends. Dr. John J. Connor, Jr. Joseph T. Kenneally set for himself a goal to satisfy everyone. The demands on education today make this goal almost impossible to achieve. Nevertheless, he worked hard in attempt- ing to achieve it. We who knew him will miss him and the Worcester School System will suffer from the loss of his ef- forts and his experience. Pasquale J. Quitadamo From a student ' s perspective, there are two thingswhichquicklycometo mindwhen Ithinkof Mr. Kenneally. He always had a great deal of pro- fessional pride and he was obviously quite proud of being the principal of Doherty High School. While mingling with students at athletic events or while on the dance floor at the school ' s proms, Mr. Kenneally always displayed a sincere affection and understanding of the school community. The second thing that comes to mind is the many conversations I had with him. Whether I was speaking with him of personal or school related issues he consistently kept a friendly and open attitude towards the student view. I will always reflect on Mr. Kenneally as a fine per- son who has made a significant contribution to his high school and to the students who have at- tended it under his leadership. David A.
