At the sectional meet, Jim Holman won the 100-yard dash and placed second in the discus. Eric Hagerup won the 200-yard dash and tied for second in the high jump. Phil James won the 880. Vernon Kalish placed third in the pole vault. The relay team, Hagerup, Holman, Kalish, and James, placed first. At the state meet, Eric Hagerup won the 200-yard dash, setting a new class C state record of 21 seconds. Phil James took second inthe 880. His time was 2xO6.S. Jim Holman won fourth in the 100-yard dash. Holman, Kalish, James, and Hagerup came within a quarter of a point of win- ning the runner-up trophy in class C. Eric Hlgerup and 'Hank' Van Epps were elected 195k cap- tains by the track lettermen. We hope they will lead Dodge- ville to as successful a season as last year. The local winners who spoke at the league contest and received 'A' ratings were Roger Christen, Kenny Palzkill, Arden Trine, Ronnie Evans, Dianna Tarrence, and Christine Heudt. Dick Pelenel: Essnlim Pbyllil Oliloff he Anderson Beverly Penfteld BAND COUNCIL A new addition to the 195h band is the band council, which was organized to formulate band policies and serve as an organizing body for band functions. The council is composed of the band officers and one member from each class. They are: Eric Hagerup, presidentg Nancy Tolford, vice-presidentg Marguerite VanEpps, secre- tary-treasurerg Janet Edge, student council representativeg Judy Terrence, seventh gradeg Alice Rikli, eighth gradeg Nancy Davies, freshman: Marcella Frollk, sopho- moreg Beverly Larkin, juniorg and Dean Halverson, senior. To raise money for new uniforms, a community birthday calendar was sold. It contained birth dates of people who contributed. Several businessmen were solicited for advertisements which appeared on the calendar with the band's picture. The band was recognized nationally in a musical yearbook, 'First Chair of Amer1ca.n In this book appear the pictures of Dodgevil1e's first-chair band members and also those of many other high schools throughout the United States. On October 17 at Platteville, the band entered a marching contest against fourteen other bands and came home with a first place trophy. Three concerts were performed during the school term: the Christmas concertg spring concert, which included the glee club, chorus, and three ensemblesg and the prehfestival concert, May 7 marked the day for the music festival at which Dodgeville was host to thirteen other bands. Dodgeville again entered class A for the sixth consecutive year.
