“
Dear Friends, Unlike past years, when it came time to choose a dedication for this years Reflections I found this to be an easy task. Choosing a person, or persons if you will, to dedicate this book to was not the difficulty, but finding the correct words to express my feelings has been very hard. Sometimes we tend to take the simple things in life for granted, but over time I have come to realize that life is too short for us to take anything for granted. Life, as we all are aware, does not last forever. Even though we know that death is unavoid- able, it still creeps up on us and shocks us, especially when it takes someone close to us whom we care for deeply. Many of you have lost close family and friends, as I have. You know that the hurt goes deep and that there’s no cure for the pain. That is why this years Reflections is dedicated to all of the people who once shared in our lives but now have left us. It is dedicated to the times they shared with us, the joy they brought us, and the memories which we will hold forever. This dedication was not made in the hopes that it would bring tears to your eyes, but it was made in the hopes that your heart would be flooded with beautiful memories. “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die.” Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 FAEULTY 4 - 7 ORGANIZATIONS 8 - 38 SENIORS 33-48 ATHLETES 49-73 AGTIVITIES 74-96 GRADES 97-109 ADVERTISING 110-180 ADMINISTRATION FRONT ROW: Mildred Weiss. This year the Student Council sponsored two assemblies including a magician and a hypnotist. The two dances, Turnabout and Homecoming were both a success. The Council also sponsored the newly formed SADD chapter. This year will mark the completion of the trophy case, and a proposed outdoor sign for the front of the school. Other Student Council activities include the Scholorship Program and the Community Service Award, and to commemorate the bicentenial of the constitution, the presentation of a framed copy of the constitution to the Library. I'm Stephy, the A.F.S. student from Italy. Milano, at Dodgeland. I’m almost at the end of my experience in the United States, and I enjoyed it a lot. A BIG thank you goes to my family, the Mountins. Miss Sullivan, and the A.F.S. chapter. I won't forget the other teachers and school staff too! What can I say about my experience? I learned a lot about a different culture, different style of life, different language, and how to sign my name!!!! “Remember. I heard teachers and students telling me. first sign your name and then your last name. (I always did the opposite). The thing that surprise me of America, most of all, is that in every house there are pets! I really hate them!!!! What did I like the best? The sweets, but don’t eat too much, you’ll gain weight, and then.......how to look it!?!?!?!?! I tried everything. I went out for every sport, but it is still sticking on me. Goodbye to everyone. Remember to get involved with A.F.S., it is fantastic, magniticent. and a lot of FUN!!!!!! Ciao e sempre in gamba. Salut Les Copains (HI) Well I guess there is always a goodbye for all good things. Before I leave I want to tell you that I had a great year in the United States. This year has been quite a change for me because I come from a big city, but that permitted me to know a TOTAL new way of life. I will always remem- ber Home Coming. Turnabout, and the Junior Prom, because I think that’s a very special moment. I will always remember all the activities at the disposition of the students and all the clubs to be involved in. because I’ll never have the chance again to do that, in France. The organization that gave me the opportunity to come wasn’t AFS, but an organization that has been placing students in Wisconsin for only a few years. It is called EF (Educational Foundation for Foreign Study). EF does not place exchange students only in the United States, but also in almost every other country in the world. This year I’ve visited famous places of Wisconsin. I went to Texas. Minnesota, and Illinois. I really think that the United States is a very nice country, which I will miss. I want to thank all my friends and Gerry, my Host mother, for giving me one of the unforgetable years of my life. P.S.: when you came here once, you have to come back!!!!! I will probably come back because I want to do Drama atudies for my future career. LOVE ALL OF YOU I’LL MISS YOU SANDY Stefania Mininno VIA C. Canti 5 20033 Desio MILANO ITALY SANDY MORARU 11. When any staff member asks to have any event video taped they call one of the audio visual students. Some of the events that they have taped are Forensics, Debate, Mock Trial, Basketball, Football, Volleyball, Track, Speech- es, Special Events, Essemblies, Programs, Musicals, Style Shows, just to name a few. All equipment is portable so not only are events here at Dodgeland taped but any student activity outside of school as well. The students are trained in two sessions at the beginning of the year and earn Vi credit toward graduation if they successfully com- plete twenty takes or shows in one year. This is a great learning experience both for the students doing the taping and the students on tape. 22 LETTERWINNERS CLUB ROW 1 Angels Soldner, Beth Klug, Chris Cribben, Tina Shea. Amy Dornfeld. Again our school newspaper continued to change as the year progressed. Computers were still used for production purposes, but our beloved paper adopted a more professional look. Articles continued to be entertaining as well as educational. They focused on some important issues such as the building of a new school. Hard working staff members are pictured here, proudly displaying the 1986 Christmas issue of The Odyssey. We had a Christmas Party in which we had our 2nd annual officer’s cake decorating contest. This year’s winner was Jody Burnett. We decided to sell pizzas at our concession stand at basketball games. This was a great success. Thank you to all that worked on this project and purchased pizzas. We will have two scholarships going out this year. We also worked together with the FFA and sponsored an Easter Egg Hunt for all grade school children in the district. Special thanks to all those that helped. We had our banquet on April 23rd at the Juneau Community Center. Our top salespeople this year were JoAnn Greppi and Kay Pearson. Door prizes were given. We also went to the Wisconsin Dells in May for our trip. Thanks to all students, faculty, parents, and communities in the district who made our year a success. The 1986-87 Trojan Varsity team ended its sea- son with the best record of any varsity team since the formal consolidation of the school district. It finished with a 16-7 record. Matt Yuenger finished the season with an All-conference first team hon- ors and Steve Wild (Sophomore) made the sec- ond team All-conference. This team was ranked in the top 20 of the state in class C for 9 consective weeks and went as far in tournament play as any Dodgeland Boys team in the history of Dodge- land. The Junior Varsity finished the season with a 10- 10 record. This team showed the most improve- ment of any team I have ever coached. Before the Christmas break the Junior Varsity was 2-6 and after Christmas we had a 8-4 record. This group of players has a great deal of talent and potential. The future of Dodgeland’s basketball looks bright. One special element of the Dodgeland 1986-87 basketball season was the establishment of the freshman boys team. Coached by Mr. Aylesworth, the freshmen played nine games this season. Al- though the team finished with a 2 and 7 win loss record, players and fans were enthusiastic about the development of a complete basketball pro- gram at DHS. With the players getting one extra year of experience, Dodgeland fans may look for- ward to even more exciting basketball in the com- ing years. MOCK TRIAL The Dodgeland Mock Trial Team competed in the first round of a statewide tournament sponsored by the Wisconsin Bar Association on February 21, and defeated James Madison Memorial High School. Dodgeland was the plaintiff in the morning trial, winning the performance decision. The fictitious civil case being prepared by the teams involves the plaintiff J.C. Remington, who is suing Morgan Nash, a parent and social host as being responsible for allowing intoxicants to be served to the teenage driver of a car involved in an accident in which Remington sustains $25,000 in damages. Cases such as this truly helps the Dodgeland stu- dents prepare for real life situations. LEFT TO RIGHT Melissa Berthold. Steve Strode, Bill Braun, Marla Smith, Paula Jeffrey. Know that it will offer you trials as well as treasures, tears as well as triumphs. Walk down life’s winding pathways with courage and humor and hope, savoring fully your achievements and learning from your defeats. Speak kindly of others . and think kindly of yourself. Be forgiv- ing, no less of your own mistakes than of theirs. Learn to laugh learn to listen. Aspire not to an unreachable perfection, nor merely to gain approval in the eyes of your friends. Strive instead to live to the best of your ability by those personal standards of honor and excellence which only you can set. Cher- ish, above all, your individuality. Glory in those special qualities of mind and spirit that make you uniquely you. Realize always that you are capable of reaching difficult goals and exceeding them, of dreaming wonderful dreams and making them come true, of achieving the only kind of success that really mat- ters: that of being at peace with yourself and with the world around you. Now the moment has come . the world awaits . . the future is yours. -Edward Cunningham Dear Reader: I took the job as yearbook editor last year when Mrs. Neumann asked me because I though it would be interesting as well as challenging. It proved to be the extremes of both. I would always page through my old yearbooks and try to find changes that could be made to improve its contents. I hope I have succeeded in meeting with your approval. However, I can not take all of the credit. This years yearbook would not have been possible without Ms. Kahle. I would like to say “thank you” to her. We were both “rookies” when it came to piecing together a yearbook, but we pulled each other through. We faced many obstacles through out the year (rolls of film that never turned out, pages that had to be done and often redone, and a constant concern for our current cash situation), but we were able to overcome them. I would also like to thank the rest of the Reflections staff for all of their hard work. You should all be proud of what you accomplished. Upon saying good bye as editor, I would like to wish next years editors the best of luck and enduring patience. Thank you, Melissa Berthold Reflections Editor 1987 It is easy to be pleasant When life flows by like a song, But the man worth while is one who will smile, When everything goes dead wrong. For the test of the heart is trouble, And it always comes with the years, And the smile that is worth the praise of earth Is the smile that shines thru the tears.
