, , D0P6ELANP HI6H SCHOOL Hello, and welcome to the 1984 edition of th fteflec- tions!! This year we had a tough time deciding who should be honored on our dedication page. There are many deserving individuals who are worthy of such an award but who were we to choose? First, the thought came to mind to dedicate this' year's edition to Mrs. Neumann, our hard working and very deserving advisor. Mrs. Neumann puts many hours each year into the yearbook and many times this tremendous effort goes unacknowledged. However, upon asking her permission, Mrs. Neu- mann modestly declined. Once again, we were faced with the problem of who to dedicate our yearbook to. It was after careful thought that we chose the parents of each member of the student body to be the deserving individuals bestowed with this honor. There are many times when we turn to our parents for advice, money, sympathy or the use of their car. How often dowve stop and think about how much our parents do for us? Without our parents many of us would be wayward individuals with absolutely no sense of order to our lives. With respect and often unspoken love, we are proud to dedicate this year's book to our very own mothers and fathers. 4? 2 Dedication CTablc Of Contents ? 8 V -(p 7- 7 18- 9Y -.57 .5S-  Ti-loS 09- 119 3 jOuUjJLJo , ? Angie Parson: I am divided because Iâm glad they are helping other countries but I donât think it would be worth getting into a war. Steve Cribbon: Well, I think we could be more involved in Lebanon and more involved in Grenada. We should be worried about our soldiers being killed. Cherie Manske: I think that everybody should mind their own business. Candy Bussewitz: I think that the U.S. should get their nose out of other people's business! Kurt Steffen: U.S. involvement is very important be- cause we do not want communists to control the world, but we do not want to over-do-it. Yes, we are getting marines killed, but if we were a communistic country we would have more problems. Chris Hauer: I think we shouldn't have any affairs with foreign countries. Jean Kraemer: We should only help to a certain extent because we are risking and losing too many soldiers and getting nothing in return. Gina Von Haden: I believe the U.S. should get out of Grenada and stay out of any country that is at war. Rodney Schultz: I think that the squabble in Grenada is worthwhile because otherwise the communists would take over the Caribbean. I also stand behind Reagan in his decision to keep our troops in Lebanon. Jackie Erdman: I think that we should just stop all this nonsense and just make peace with the other coun- tries. James Chyko: I think that we shouldnât get involved in foreign affairs unless that there is something that would jeopardize us, like a war. Gayle Rydstrom: I think it is a bad idea to get involved in something we donât really know about. War will come soon enough without us helping it along. I don't think they should have them becuase if they have enough credits and have passing grades they should be able to graduate.-Cindy Bauer I think you should take a mandatory test and be able to pass because if you canât, you probably arenât ready or capable of being on your own.-Paula Westphal Itâs a good idea in some cases, like if a student is just barely making it with credits but actually is not so good in the long run, then they should take it. If a student is good they shouldnât.-Heather Jablonski Yes. If a person isnât able to pass a basic test, how are they going to make it in the real world.-Robert Bunge I donât feel a mandatory test should be necessary be- fore you graduate. People are at different levels which may make it very hard for some. I think that if they accomplish the courses at their level, they should be able to graduate.-Amy Dornfeld No! I do want to graduate someday. But it's just adding pressure to the end of the year. The joy of graduation should not be broken because a smart man got too nervous and flunked a test.-Ryan Helgeson I feel the mandatory tests are a good idea. The test is just a basic test with general questions in different sub- jects and if you canât pass that, how can you fare in life.- Kim Brigowatz I donât think you should have to pass the mandatory test to graduate. If they are intelligent enough to make it through four years of high school with good enough grades to pass, I think that shows that they are intelli- gent enough to live in the everyday world.-Kris Braun I don't think a student should have to take the manda- tory test if the persons grades are o.k.-Kevin Schultz Yes and no. I say yes because some people might just barely be passing and no because some people might be in school for twenty years.-Shelly VanderGalien Yes-lt tells the school and the student not only his abilities, but what he has accomplished, what he can accomplish, and how much he should and did or did not accomplish. I think that it should be a small (20%) deciding factor on whether the student should be al- lowed to graduate.-Troy Haupert No I donât think you should have to take the test, because if you have passing grades and have enough credits, I think that should be enough.-Traci Steiner Yes, because people could be helping you through school by giving you answers and cheating for you. This way teachers could tell what you learned and where you are in terms of your class.-Eric Yarolimeck I donât think you should have to take them becuase after you worked hard for four years to get enough credits, you should be able to graduate.-Felicia Nebl I think this test is a good idea. This way students who took easy classes just to earn the necessary credits wonât graduate without learning anything. (This test will also be helpful for colleges to decide if a student meets their requirements.-Melissa Berthold I think you should have to take a test before you gra- duate. That way you could see what you learned through your school years. You could also see if youâre prepared to go out into the world.-Eric Kestin No, if we had to take this âMandatory testâ some people might never graduate.-Brandon Liebrecht 38 Freshmen Freshmen Pearson. Our noon meetings weren't all serious business. The 1984 REFLECTIONS staff had approximately thirty workers. Cheryl Strode and Janice Bobholz were the Co- editors. The entire staff began the school year by selling ads which was again successful. We are grateful to all the advertisers. All deadlines were met on schedule so we should have earned the Big E for excellance award from American Yearbook Company. Awards night was held and all the officers received medals. Julie Peters received a free yearbook for having sold the most new ads. Gayle Ryd- strom and Jean Kraemer received medals for their extra effort beyond their page assignments. Jim Selchert won the yearbook raffle and received a free yearbook. Scott Neu- berger was second and received one at half price. We hope you enjoy our production. Mrs. Neumann was our advisor. 86 Reflections Piecing together another page for production. I want a big piece. The 1983 Football season was one that could be described as a rollercoaster. Our wins and losses came in pairs. After a shaky start, we came through to play good football through the balance of the season. The highlight seemed to come in the Homecoming game in which the defense held several times to preserve a 6-0 victory. DHS also beat Cam- bridge for only the second time in many years. Overall, it was a successful season of achievements despite a 4-6 record. Post season All-Conference Honors were: Todd Farrington-First Team Defensive Back; Dan Gahl- man-First Team Defensive Line; Scott Neuberger-Second Team Defensive Line; Tyler Nehls-Second Team Defensive End; John Wolfram-Honorable Mention Defensive Back; Mark Davis-Honorable Mention Offensive Back. The possibility of further success of Dodgeland Football was enhanced over the winter by an off-season weight- training program that many Trojans participated in.
