Dodgeland High School Juneau, WI The Reflection Staff Of The 1982-83 School Year Dedicate Their Yearbook To Mrs. Elizabeth Brieman A smile, a helping hand, and a friendly hello all describe her well. What would our High School debate team be without the time and efforts of Mrs. Brieman? She has done an outstanding job. She has taught us the meaning of friendship, responsibility, but most of all knowledge. Mrs. Brieman has inspired all of us to set out goals high and to work hard in achieving them. Elizabeth Brieman, English Department Chairperson, debate coach, and forensic coach, has taught at the Dodgeland High School for twenty-one years. She graduated from Juneau High School in 1942. She obtained a Bachelor of Science of Education degree from UW-Oshkosh and has done further work in the master’s program. Mrs. Brieman has coached one-act plays, class plays, and originated the debate club in 1968. Throughout the years at Dodgeland she has taught courses in Mass Media, Play Production, American Novel, Nonfiction, Creative Writing, Composition for the Collegebound, Business English, American Literature, Language Skills, Play Acting, Project Recare-Reading, Modern Drama, Humanities and Independent Study-English. Mrs. Brieman has had the joy of seeing debaters excel in competition, forensic team members strive and achieve state awards, and student actors entertain audiences; but best of all, she has appreciated being one part of a learning partnership with students in her classes. For giving 21 years of her life to the Juneau and Dodgeland High School, we the yearbook staff, wish her good luck and happiness in the future. We would like to show our appreciation by dedicating our ’82-’83 yearbook to Mrs. Elizabeth Brieman. 2 Table Of Contents J YV9tUl4' isixL AMJU xM4n2s W u { ■ 'XudjJiX. Bob Engels This year’s varsity football team may have been my most rewarding group of young men for several rea- sons: 1. The team immediately pre- ceeding them accomplished goals that no other team at Dodgeland High School -had ever accomplished before. That was a hard act to follow. 2. Many people had very low ex- pectations of this year’s team. I was told repeatedly that we would be lucky to win one or two games. I might add that after losing our first three games I started to have serious doubts about our success ratio myself. 3. This was by far the most inex- perienced team that I have ever fielded. While all of this was going on, I was seeing something that was very thrilling to observe. A group of “no name” young men were gelling to- gether as a determined and cohesive “team.” It was highly rewarding to see our seniors feel and demonstrate attributes of cooperation, leadership, hard work, enthusiasm, and PRIDE not only in their school or their team, but in themselves. At the same time I was also watching a group of juniors mature and become quality football players, both physically and mental- ly. In addition to this, I saw several sophomores come through when the chips were really down. That to me is quality performance at its best. This year’s team did not win as 16 many games as some other teams that I have coached; but in my eyes and in the eyes of the people in- volved in our program they showed qualities that are the backbone of high school athletics — together- ness, cooperation, hard work, and competitiveness. This was a team that could have given up and been content to be a loser, but they didn’t; they showed pride and determina- tion to do a job and to do that job well. This to me is one of the best lessons in life that any student can have the opportunity to experience. Coaching football at Dodgeland High School for the past 11 years has been a very enjoyable and re- warding experience for me. But as times change, so do coaches. My memories of the individuals and teams that I have coached will always be pleasant memories for me. The cooperation that I have re- ceived from parents, faculty mem- bers, former administrators, assistant coaches, and the athletes is responsi- ble for the successful program that we have had during my tenure as head coach. To all of you and to all of the people in our district who con- structively contributed to our foot- ball program — THANK YOU. I have always had one personal goal for my players and that is that their participation in our football pro- gram, no matter what the magnitude or direction, will somehow improve their lives and make them more pro- ductive American citizens. To this end I feel satisfied. Most of you have heard me express my team goals an- nually for the past 11 years. I might add that they have never changed in that period of time. I will repeat them one last time because I believe that strongly in them: 1. Hit With Intensity 2. Be Competitive 3. HAVE FUN I think most people have wit- nessed these goals to be very preva- lent in the games that they have had the opportunity and privilege to at- tend. 1 wish next year’s coaching staff continued success, and I am confi- dent that they will experience the same cooperation and support from the citizens of Dodgeland that I have enjoyed over the last 11 years. I am sure without a shadow of a doubt that next year’s team, and future Dodgeland football teams, will meet the challenge and carry on the strong TROJAN football tradition. Club wasn’t as large as in past years, but it was still just as fun. We sold everything from calenders and merribells to caramel, crunch, and almond candy bars. (Yum, Yum!). The Home Ec. Club also had an activity night filled with pizza, soda, and games. This year our annual trip was an exciting one. We went to the Governor’s Mansion, House on the Rock, the White Horse Inn, and of course — shopping. The Home Ec Club had a Christmas party with turkey, ham, dressing, etc. But due to our favorite friend, the weather, the whole club could not attend. The party was still fun. though. There were lots of decorations and the room was filled with festivity. The Home Ec Club also donated sandwiches and cookies to the blood bank. This year the banquet was held at Old Hickory. Many members attended (with their parents) and received awards. The Home Ec Club would like to thank everyone for making this year a big success. 36 Home Ec Of America FRONT: Karen Friese, Katie Noll, Ann Klarkowski, JoDee Canniff, Anne Ireland, Amanda Scott. I’ve had so many new experiences and met so many wonderful people. U.S.A. really impresses me. There is so much to see! Every state to me is like a different country. The people out East are so different from those in Wisconsin. I found this very different, as my home land is so small and the countries are so close, the majority of people are the same. Through A.F.S. I’ve enjoyed many weekends, weeks, and time spent at Trees For Tomorrow. Through my years’ experience I’ve had hard days and I’d like to thank the people who helped me through these moments. One thing about A.F.S. It’s Great!! I’ve met people from all over the world through A.F.S. weekends. Thanks Again!! “Ann”, A.F.S. Ireland Hi Everybody!! When I applied to be an A.F.S. student, I was so excited with the idea of coming to America. I am really glad I got to come to Juneau. It has been wonderful being an A.F.S. student in Dodgeland High School. My A.F.S. year began when I got to Juneau in August. Since that time I have met alot of nice people. I enjoyed sharing and being with all of you. It took me awhile to adjust to the difference: In my school I never moved from class to another; all I did was stay all day in the same room and the teacher moved. Running through the halls was totally new for me. The weather was a big change, too. I had never seen snow before and it was really fun going downhill skiing and snowmobiling. I will never forget it. My English was terrible when I first got here. I felt really bad because nobody could understand me. All I did was smile and smile all day, even if I didn’t know what was going on. Now it’s time for me to leave. I thank all of you! You were all so nice to me. By the time you read this, I will have already gone but I would love to hear from you.
