W'e re-established the winning edge that was lost during the 1979 season. Many ingredients went into having a 7-2 record this year: strong leadership from our seniors who played a key role in establishing a winning attitude, being fortunate to have very talented athletes as a part of our program, desire and dedication to give that little extra that separates winners from losers, and strong support from our sophomores and freshmen. Adding these ingredients to a well-established football program that is accustomed to putting out winners is what the 1980 football season was all about. Over the years we hove established three very basic objectives to produce a successful program.: 1. Hit with intensity 2. Be Competitive 3. And above all-have fun Putting all of this into perspective I was very pleased with the cooperation and effort that I received from this year's team, and am eagerly anticipating the 1981 football season. 17 Michele Foch. David Wiiken also received the Most Pins ' award at Milwaukee. All in all, the season went very well. We had a lot of young wrestlers and tough competition. Tutoring is o program set up by Mr. Dornfeld which any high school student may join and receive up to a full doss credit. The program is set up to aid elementary and secondary school students in their studies and give practical exper- ience to the tutor, which can be beneficial if he plans on entering on educational, health, or so- cial career. The tutors may change at semester time; shown are first semester's tutors. Hall monitors ore students who volunteer or are chosen to guard'' the halls during their free periods. Desides keeping students from roam- ing the halls, they run er- rands for the teachers and Mrs. Duffy. Thanks to these students, the school's halls ore kept orderly. He was the highlight of the Christmas assembly with his mime routine and a great asset to the choir and swing choir. Eddy will be missed by all when he returns to his home in Delguim in June. ALL AMERICAN? Deste Vrienden. When I left Brussels National Airport I didn't know how my year was going to be. not finding Juneau on the U.S. Map. I couldn 't wait to meet the people that were going to be my parents for a whole year. It was kind of hard to feel at home in the country when you're used to living in the city. After a while the city kid felt at home in the country. All the boms and silo's were very strange to me. Pigs, and especially, almost a thousand at a time was very impressive. The first day at school I felt terrible: most people staring at me like I was a marsman but when the ice was broken, a lot of people were very nice and friendly. I was glad to have Paula too. She was really a good help to me and I hope I was one for her, too. We shared our experiences, our joys as most as we could together. The first week at school was terrible. I tried to concentrate on the courses because Americans speak different than the English I learned. I really enjoyed school because people were nice and the teachers great; it wasn't that formal all the time like it was in my other school in Belgium. You made our stoy-Paulo j and mine-a very special one. An experience we 'II never forget. It's great that there's an organization like AFS that con make a dream, (because it's a dream to come here) possible. People out of school were very nice to me too and I would like to thank all of them who made my stay so wonderful. just cannot believe how fast the year had gone. Once again thank you for the great year. I will remember and treasure this year for the rest of my life. I don't know who next year's AFS students are going to be; but I know that the students who ore coming to Dodgelond, will have a great year to look forward to. Thank You All, Eddy Mostaert, AFS, Belgium 37 ART CLUB The Art Club sold honey this year to raise money. Club T-Shirts were designed ond o mural on the side of o born was discussed. The debate ream this year had only three return debaters: John Gernetzke, Tim Gun- drum, and Mary Kaischeur. The remaining de- baters were all novice, or first-year debaters. Overall, the debaters had a fine season with a final record of 44 wins and 40 losses. The affirmative debaters for this year were John G.. Eddy M.. Dan S.f and Tim G. The negative debaters were Sonya W., Mary K., Jill E., and Kimberly E. Alternate debaters were Deth M., Kim D., and Tami G. Various awards were won by the team throughout the year and Dodgelond sent one team to the Debate of the Champs on January 24, 1961. FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA The Dodgeland FFA hod o very successful year in 1960-61. We ore proud to announce that mem- bership is up fourteen members under the new advisor: Mr. Retzloff. The FFA sent three mem- bers to Kansas City, Missouri, in November for the Notional FFA Convention. Travelling to the convention were Terry Nehls, Tim Wolter, John Duske, and Mr. Retzloff. John Duske received the American Former Degree Award at the conven- tion. December was the fruit sole month with the members of the organization selling over 750 cases of fruit making it a great success. Another success was in January when the FFA sold Krinke Popcorn throughout the community. The FFA started a cornplot this year next to the athletic complex, south of Juneau, which the School Board has agreed to rent to the FFA. The city also donated ten acres of land directly adja- cent to the rented land on which we will raise different varieties of corn, hay, and oats. The annual Banquet of the FFA for 1960-61 was held on April 4, 1961. FRONT: Corey McDonough. Ron Lauersdorf. Robert Neis. Tony Weisensel, Sentinel; Jeff Dobbrorz. Secretory; Terry Nehls. Advisor for the Odyssey is Mrs. Motuszeski. who puts in olot of time proofreading the paper. The Odyssey comes out six times a year- Homecoming. Thanksgiving. Christmas. Valentine 's Day. Easter, and the Senior Edition. Articles in the paper ore submitted and written by the students. The process of putting the paper together by typing, running it off. and stapling it together, is also done by the student s themselves. Deing on the Odyssey Staff is hard work: but It's a rewarding experience. Students on the Odyssey staff get a feeling of accomplishment after each issue is done. It's a good thing that our school has enough students who ore willing to work hard for a good paper, and. take pride in being a part of the Odyssey staff. Let s keep it going. FRONT: Deth L..
