PWBK IN MEMORIUM AND DEDICA TION Fredrick C. Hauer The 1979-80 yearbook is dedicated to Mr. Fredrick C. Hauer, who died on October 12. 1979. as he was beginning his eighth year as administrator at Dogeland. He began his teaching career in Houston. Minnesota, where he taught English and World History. He taught there for three years. Then he decided to go into administra- tion and received his Master's Degree Guidance and Administration at age 26. He worked at Camp Douglas for two years, at Wonewac for ten years, and at Wautoma for six years. He then came to Dodgeland where he remained until he died. He was starting his 27th year in administration. This was longer than any member of the Wiscon- sin Association of School Administrators of which he was a member. His main belief was that the students were of prime importance and everything must be done to improve their education. One way in which he did this was by organizing effective guidance programs with exposure to career opportunities to aid students in choosing a career. He also promoted scholarships in schools. He encouraged local organizations to start scholarships. He felt that this gave an incentive to the students and gave them some- thing to work for. A scholarship fund has been started this year in his memory. It is hoped that this will be an annual scholarship given to a graduating senior of Dodgeland High. Mr. Hauer will be remembered by his family, the students and faculty at Dodgeland. and by his many friends. Sonya (A F S Student) The days passed rapidly, happy hours of study and fun. Yes. the moment to say good-bye arrives, the moment to remem- ber the times with such good people have passed. I know that all of this time I will remember with love. For me. being able to share the experience of an AFS year with Robyn Ashworth from New Zealand has been wonderful and educational. I have learned about the United States and also about New Zealand all at the same time. We have shared our experiences and have learned about ourselves and our countries. Thank you for having both of us here at the same time. A great change has taken place in my life because of the year I have shared with you. My life has changed alot. Never will I forget my first day in this school and never will I forget all the smiling faces that I saw. I have a very nice impression of D.H.S. It has been a second home for me in America. This has come about as a result of the noble teachers and dear friends. I want to give thanks to all of them for all the attention they have given me. D.H.S. is. for me. an unforgettable re- membrance. The reason for my behavior was my scanty English skills and I was afraid to speak. Some of you talked with me and you knew my English was very poor. Right now I can't say it is better because I have difficulty yet. but I think and I hope it is better. In some situations it is difficult to write about my feelings, especially in a moment of saying good-bye knowing that perhaps I am never going to return. I am very grateful to especially my American mom and dad. Mr and Mrs Elske. and my American sister. Kim Elske. I also want to thank Mr. Edming. the AFS Club, and other clubs that were interested and invited me to become a part of their activities. Very soon I will have to leave. Although I will forget some names and faces. I'll never forget that all of you made me feel I wasn't alone. IN 80 DAYS The U.S. of America was a great experience for me. The variety of scenery, climate, people and customs are unequaled anywhere else I will never forget you and your wonderful country and hospitality. I wish all of you the best of luck. And if you have time, please write to me in Costa Rica, and perhaps some day we will reunite for a big fiesta. Adios, Sonia A.F.S. CLUB OFFICERS — BOTTOM: Dennis Wilken. President; Lee Weiss. Ski Trip Haere Mai, By the time you are reading this, I will be back in New Zealand remembering this incredible year I spent in America at Dodgeland High School. I never realized how long and how short a year could be until this experience. It seemed so long at the beginning when I felt so all alone and without anyone I really knew. But as the year went on and I got used to the strange surroundings and customs and made some close friends, it passed all too quickly. I will never forget my attempts to play volleyball which as my teammates know were only attempts! The football games and the cheerleading were all new experiences and I can say now that football does, indeed, rank up there with Rugby. The winter was disappointing. I was hoping for my first white Christmas, but it never came. Still I am glad I got to try all the new winter sports like icefishing, skiing, skating, and snowmobiling. They were a lot of fun. Prom, Turnabout and Homecoming were all unforgettable times for me for different reasons. Especial- ly being elected onto Turnabout court for it showed for me that I was accepted and liked by al the Dodgeland pupils. I hope my stay here has been as enjoyable for you as it was for me and that everyone now knows a little more about the great little country NZ. We're the one that doesn't have the kangaroos and we're not anywhere by Greenland! I want to thank all of you for giving me such a great year, pupils, teachers, parents alike; even if I did talk funny! I will never forget the way of life here with football games, cheerleaders, your way of partying, your accents. Prom, your great love of life, to name just a few. I think I will try to forget though your food, so I can lose the many pounds that I have gained. Once again thank you for the great year. I will remember and treasure this year for the rest of my life. Future AFS students have alot to look forward to as the AFS Club gets stronger and better year by year. I don't want to forget any of you who are here so please write — this has become my second home and jut like my home in NZ, I want to know all that is happening while I'm away. Don Fischer BEING FRIENDS Being friends is a warm and glowing touch. It's words of kindness that mean so much. Through days and years that bond has grown. A blessing only friends have known Being friends holds a meaning true. It's past and present and yet it's new It's time wrapped up in things we do I'm glad God made a friend like you!
