SCHECHER, Advisor. Let's Go Abroad With AFS I think the world's future very much depends on our ability to learn to understand and like people with various cultures and customs. You can study in books about the coun- tries and their people, but believe me, there isn't anything like going to the country and experiencing the people's way of living and thinking, and to learn to understand their customs. Every year AFS makes it possible for 4,000 youths from all over the world to get to know another country. As you know, I am one of those who has the op- portunity to have this experience. (Thanks to Dodgeland AFS-club who worked so hard to raise money so I could come here). And now I know there isn't anything as wonderful as living in another country and learning about it and it's people. I hope as many of you as possible, sometime in your life, will get the opportunity to do this discovery on your own. My year here at Dodgeland High School has been quite an ex- perience for me. It has taught me more about people than I have ever known before. I really hope I have been able to give you a little in return for all experiences and won- derful memories you have given to me. When I am back in Sweden, I will remember my year at Dodgeland High School as one of the most eventful and happiest of my life. Thanks to all of you for everything you have done for me. This year the N.H.S. inducted 12 new members into the organization. The members were selected differ- ently than other years. Any junior or senior with an average of 85 or better could fill out an application. A committee of teachers then selected the new mem- bers. All of the N.H.S. members have been selected because of their outstanding: SERVICE, CHARAC- TER, LEADERSHIP, AND SCHOLASTIC ABILITY. Five of the issues are based on the holidays of Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentines Day, and Easter. A traditional Homecoming edition is put out for school spirit. A senior edition is printed for a farewell to all the graduating seniors and a lesson to all underclassmen. During the past year, we've added new columns to make our paper a better and more inter- esting one. We held many contests with each issue. Such contests were: counting the number of mistakes in the whole newspaper, the best answer to the Question of the Is- sue , and The Lucky Number Issue . We hope everyone liked our own version of the Milwaukee Journal. El Club De Espanol The Spanish Club is an extension of the work and study which begins in the daily class sessions. The study of the Spanish language and the various cultures of the Spanish speaking people of the world is so extensive that the class sessions, it is felt, need am- plification. The Spanish Club serves this purpose by giving the students additional ex- periences in which to experience the Spanish scene. Trips, films, and taco parties, in addition to fellowship with students from other classes and schools, help to bridge the gap to a better understanding of the Spanish speaking world. Ohhh-Un-Gowaaa The 73-74 Varsity Basketball Squad had a disappointing start by losing its opening games by only 2, 3, or 4 points. Even so, the important thing to remember is It's not if you win or lose, it's how you play the game. The most important game of the season was against North Fond du Lac, which we won 60 to 48. The game was dedicated to Coach Larson and the winning game ball (pictured at the left) was signed by the team and cheerleaders and given to Mr. Larson. School Spirit was lacking at a lot of our games, but the guys, as well as many spectators, realized that We are proud, win or lose, the Tro- jans, the team, will always choose: P-R-O-U-D, we're PROUD!!! OPPORTUNITY Opportunity struts before us as a dare or withdraws into a sheltered corner waiting We must tackle the challenge or disclose the hidden. Each man must invite encounter with opportunity or lose shades of experience he might have gained since every opportunity is a master key... to diversity... of scene... to realization, and contact... to animation... and concern. Opportunities in the high school are limitless yet if unsought are lost. We are passers-by. Now is the moment to stop. We are viewers of the kaleidoscope world. Now is the moment to magnify. Only then will our perception be clear and the vastness of our opportunities will come to focus.
