Text from Pages 1 - 120 of the 1973 volume:

It seems only fitting that the 1973 REFLECTIONS should be dedicated to those who create the yearbook--the REFLECTIONS staff. Create the reason for having one--the students of Dodgeland High. It is the staff's hard work that puts out the yearbook, but the experiences and accomplishments of students and staff go together to make this THEIR yearbook. It is with great pleasure that we present to you the 1973 edition of the REFLECTIONS. Throughout God giant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. 4 courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference. The varsity team enjoyed its finest season since the 1967 championship team, tieing with North Fondy for the title. Some season highlights were holding oppo- nents scoreless in five games, five players earning All-Conference honors, having six touchdowns called back because of penalty, one of which was crucial in the only loss to Lomira, a group of senior ball players who worked hard to become the backbone of a championship ball club. The JV's were 5-1 and suffered their only loss'to Horicon. Greg Blasts away at the Orioles for a good gain. This year's squad was very balanced with all team members striving to be Number 1” on our team. Very close meets typified our long season, losing to Horicon by 3 and 6, and Lomira by 3 points. The Trojan dual meet record was 5-8, while placing 4th in the Flyway Conference meet. Graduating seniors of the team are Kurt Guenther, Jerry Ninmann, Bill Wether- bee, and Mike Korth. Three very promising freshmen competed on this year's varsity which indicates that next year could be a good year for the Dodgeland Cross Country Team. SEASON RECORD N. For the One-Act Plays ... I can't believe I ate the whole thing! Hey man! Three's a crowd! On October 27, three one-act come- dies were presented. Mrs. Brieman di- rected Kiss Me Quick--I'm Double-Park- ed”, with a cast which contained only stu- dents from her beginning acting class. Miss Hauk and Mr. Hawlish directed The Hot Line. A cutting from The Imaginary Invalid was directed by Mr. Edming and presented also at the contest play. Ac- tors, production crews, and the audience all enjoyed this experience in comedy. 'The Imaginary Invalid Comedy Was the Key Note THE HOT LINE MOTHER I'D RATHER DO IT MYShLK MARIA ANDREEF First AFS Student New Zealand AFS Club Dear School, Hare-mai (hello in the language of my native people, the Maori). As your first AFS student I feel responsible for any ideas you may have formed about the AFS organization, but as this is the first time I've ever been an AFS student, I guess we're in the same boat. This year I have learned so much about people. Before I came I thought (as typical of a teenager) that I knew it all . Now I have been proved wrong and I didn't mind in the slightest because it has been fantastic meeting you people and living your life style. I only hope that I have managed to give a little experience to you rather than just take. When I go back to my dear islands in the Pacific, I know I shall get terribly homesick for Dodge County. How- ever, as I am expecting at least half of you to come and visit N.Z., I shan't get too upset. School life here re- quired my major adaptions. Wearing mufty (plain clothes) instead of uniforms; the variety of subjects and the interesting way in which they are presented; football instead of rugby and best of all a white Christmas instead of spending Christmas day on the beach are just a few differences between our countries. Most of you, I have met, and all of you have contributed in so many ways to making this one of the happiest years of my life. I just don't know how to thank-you. I will never forget you. The year started off with the band feverishly getting ready for their first performance on the football field. The color guard marched to the beat of the music with perfect pre- cision except when they... The twirlers tossed their sticks into the air, and they landed - they knew not where. The Home Ec. Club did a great job providing refreshments at the sports activities along with the Lettermen’s Club. The candles they sold also helped to light up many homes at Christmas time. Homecoming was a highlight of the football season. The making of floats, the parade, and preparing for the dance made a busy week for all. Steve Bronner and Lois Braun- schweig reigned over the 1972 Dodgeland Homecoming. The One Act Plays provided a great night of entertainment. They presented three dif- ferent types of plays. 'The Imaginary Invalid , Hotline , and Kiss Me Quick-I'm Double Parked . The National Honor Society members gave up their study halls to tutor in the grade school. In December they held their annual Tapping Ceremony at which 10 Junior honor students became members. A spectator may have been confused if they heard a number of languages being spok- en. The Spanish Club's main activity is sponsoring cake walks after the basketball games. The French students enjoy preparing and eating a complete French dinner. Many children in Dodge County were thankful for the Arts and Craft Club on Christ- mas. They fixed up many toys and games for the welfare children. Ask any AFS Club member what the first word if that comes to their mind and you can bet that it would be PIZZA! They had pizza sales to make money to support an AFS student. On January 19-21 they hald an AFS weekend at which other AFS students from neighboring areas came to spend the weekend at Dodgeland. They stayed at homes of many club members. The weekend was filled with many activities such as a dance, swimming, visiting Nehl's Dairy Farm, Aunt Nellies, and a potluck dinner at school followed by an evening of basketball, ping pong, and volleyball. All of those students who were out for Debate and Forensics have developed their speaking abilities. The ODYSSEY staff works very hard to put out a very interesting paper to keep everyone up on the news at Dodgeland. Members of the Librarian Club are a great help to many students in the Library. They help them find books and check them out. The Future Farmers of America had a parliamentary procedure team which won first place at the district and sectional contests. 54 CLASSES Just Starting Out FRONT ROW: Mike Bittner, Dana Belcher, Tim Dornfeld, Jenny Arndt, Roger Bradley, Kevin Babcock, Steve Caine, Dick Evans, Jessy Arndt, David Davison. The Prom Creators On a crisp fall day in October, the controversy within the Junior Class as to whether or not they would sponsor a Prom was taken to the polls. One vote decided that the traditional Prom would be held. However, the votes defeated the plan for another Junior Class magazine sales campaign. Instead items from Tom Watt Kits were sold by class members. Then planning and decorating began... -The work of the Class of 74 was culminated on May 12, 1972 as they held their Junior Prom. The Big Moment s-H In Memoriam RONALD JAUERT JERALD KREUZIGER The end of life is the most difficult part of life to ac- cept. When a friend or someone who we love is lost, we question quietly in our sorrow, Why? However, when death comes to one who is yet drawing near the peak of life, a young person, it seems to be the most difficult type of death to understand and accept. This was experienced by the friends and families of two students at Dodgeland High School as Ronald Jauert and Jerald Kreuziger, both seniors, lost their lives in automobile accidents. Reactions of sorrow, sympathy, and disbelief followed. Although we will allow our thoughts and prayers to be with Ron, Jerry, and their families of- ten, we may find comfort by allowing the greatest healer to take effect - time.
