The purpose of this club is to teach students how to operate a camera more efficiently. They learn how to select settings and backgrounds. how to develop pictures. and from their knowl- edge they get the full enioyment of photog- raphy. Officers for this year are Laird Bowman, pres- ident: Marilyn Martin. vice-president: Pete Wormington, secretary-treasurer. and Dean Young, student council representative. Seals. Pinfeather Club is a literary organization com- posed of students who like to write original compositions. give book reviews. and who are iust content to curl up with a best seller any time. Pinteathers belong to the Book of the Month Club and each month contribute a select book to the school library. The purpose of this club is to increase the enioyment of literature and to encourage crea- tive work in all forms of writing. The aim oi the Hi-Y is to create, maintain, and extend throughout the school and community high standards oi Christian character. With this goal in mind the HiY has molded another suc- cessful year under the leadership of Bill Turley. president, and Mr. I. L. Elwell, sponsor. Meetings are held alternately with G.R., the service club for girls, during activity periods on Wednesday. Outside activities have included managing the baseball throw concession for the camival and planning several parties. Other otiicers include Ioe Pat White, vice- president: lack Dillard. secretary, and Iarnes No- land. treasurer. TOP ROW: Putnam. Flem- ing, Hargis. Lollar. Tunnell, Martin. Reserves The three-fold purpose of the Girl Reserves is to aid in training girls to become leaders, to bring them closer together, and to enable them to become better citizens. Being the only girls' service club in Dodge High. practically all the girls are members. Under the direction of Miss Lydia Haag. the sponsor, and Pat Turner, the president. the G.R. has been very progressive this year. Included among their accomplishments are the handling oi the book exchange, decorating the girls lounge, giving the annual mother-daughter ban- quet, and starting the bond drive by having dues paid in war stamps. Thespians help with all plays that are given in Dodge High by taking charge ot stage set- tings and make-up, and sometimes act as direc- tors or assistants. Members may thus earn points to become National Thespians. The squad, coached by Miss Mary Austin, consisted of Annette Taylor. Camilla Klein, Gracia Ward, Laird Bowman, Martha Miller, Gretta Braddock, and Grace Gwinner. In spite oi gas and tire shortages, the debate teams attended tournaments at Hays, Hutchin- son, Salina, Kinsley, and having won their dis- trict meet at Hays, were invited to the state toumey.
