Not long afterwards come odors of grease paint and poster paint as the john Barrymores and Katherine Ilepburns of the senior class prepare for the big night, and, Mother Is A Freshman. Come dance with me, seems to be the thought expressed in this scene from the Senior play. iii! The Bennett and Edwards annual presentation of awards to out- standing D B students. Every December, Bennett and Edwards sends a representative before the student body to present tickets to five boys to attend a New Year's Day bowl game. The beautifully decorated tree brightens spirits, and the carols sung by the Mixed Chorus leave us all with a feeling of peace. Deck the halls with boughs of holly. Finally, though, they are behind us and we can go to the basketball games with a light heart and watch delightedly as the boys pile up win after win in a series of exciting games. The weeks pass and basketball gradually fades out of the picture as baseball comes more and more into the sports spot- iight. f X safe! 1 .f f . Then fell the bomb- shell. All Freshmen would stay at junior High School. Imagine! Freshmen in high school at junior High!!! But the year 1947-48 wasn't too bad. We were looked up to by junior High students, because we were really in high school. Then in the fall of 1948, some two hundred excited Sophomores roamed the halls of Dobyns- Bennett High School. At last we were there. We became the proverbial green Freshmen. We sat in our classes and watched the construction of the new building far more than we did our teachers. That year many of us decided that brick laying was the job for us. Suddenly, in 1949. we found ourselves Juniors. The new building was complete. Dignified Seniors and green Freshmen alike wandered around lost. We laughed to see the Seniors, so undignified. On August 31, 1950, one hundred fifty of us looked around in a dazed way and asked, Can I really be a Senior? I don't feel a bit different. Yes, we were Seniors. 30 Senior Class CAROLYN ADAMS Y-Teensg Bandg Cheerleaderg D.E. Clubg Glee Club. LEONARD ADAMS Camera Clubg Glee Clubg Audio Visual Club. Due to crowded conditions, we spent our Freshman Year at junior lligh. Although we had no class officers, our Student Council class repre- sentatives were jane Kirkpatrick and Don Boyd. Finally we entered Dobyns-Bennett, only to be confronted by the new, new building, julius Caesar, and second year algebra. We elected Paul Rathbun our Sophomore president, and jane and Don were our Student Council members. Now we are juniors, and have finally found our way around the school. We have elected Rodney Robinette class president, Ann Elliott vice president, Carol Fsser secretary, and jane Kirkpatrick treasurer. Ann Elliott, Bill Wilborn, and Fsther Benedict are our Student Council representatives. We have been kept busy with selecting the class rings, presenting a junior play, honoring the Seniors with a prom, and other traditional activities. With happy memories of our first three years, we are looking forward with enthusiasm to the excitement and privileges of being Seniors at Dobyns-Bennett. 46 4 ,Z 1 ,N 4 ,zfflfy H Junior Class BILL ADAMS A. Out of their early privation and pioneering came the heritage of honor, of bravery, of sturdy character, and friendliness that charac- terizes the people of Kingsport.
