Robin- son, our school system has become one of which we are proud. Prior to becoming the outstanding leader in the Kingsport schools, Mr. Robinson attended well- known colleges and universities. Because of his dili- gence and perseverance, Mr. Robinson has become a leader in many educational organizations. He has faithfully and patiently served as superin- tendent of our schools, and we honor him for the unceasing work he has done in bettering our field of education. KENNETH E. PITTS Principal Kenneth Pitts has completed his first year as principal at D.B.H.S. with remarkable achievements. Une doubts if he has drawn a free breath since that eventful day in September when he accepted this great responsibility. If he isn't seen running to a faculty meet- ing, then he must be in a con- ference. We the students and faculty, wish to express our appreciation, Mr. Pitts. for taking such an in terest in our school. ROSS N. Many a freshman was sent to detention for carving his name on a desk beside that of a pre-historic person. Getting into all the activi- ties and laboring to make the honor roll were the uppermost thoughts of the majority of these Freshmen. Onward was their motto! jimmy Rau, Bob Bingham and Patsy Spivey held the positions of class officers. Page forty-two The next fall the class of '47 came back to school, eager to start their Sophomore year. This year the class presented to the school a slice of its talent. Now one or more Sophomores were in practically every activity, and they boasted of being a part of D.B.H.S. Many a nightmare was caused by those Caesar themes, many a hair pulled out in Josie's modern history class, and to this day it has never been decided whether it was the teacher or the second year algebra that caused so many straight A students to drop to C's and D's. Such was their Sophomore yesar but no doubt about it, it was fun! Page forty-four 1945 was surely to be the best school year yet for this class. Now they were Juniors and the World was again at peace. Never before did Juniors enjoy laughing at Freshmen or gloating over the fact that they would soon be Seniors as those Juniors did. Wfhat a football team Kingsport High had in 1945, D.B.H.S. students will say when they look back in years to come. Not only did they take the Conference Title, but they copped the State Championship and Southern Title as well, which had never before been done in the history of the school. One cannot realize what an outstanding rec- ord the Indians did make unless he sees some statistics. Kingsport averaged over 30 points per game while opponents averaged less than 6. All told, Kingsport rolled up a total of 306 points against 58 given to opposing squads. KINGSPORT 63 NEWPORT 0 Captains-J. Salley, D. Salley The first game of the season proved to be an extremely good start as Kings- port overwhelmed Newport by 63 points. The outstanding scorer of the game was Anderson, a newcomer to the Indians, who chalked up 24 points. KINGSPORT 26 CHATTANOOGA 12 Captains-Frye, Fulkerson The favored Purple Pounders of Chattanooga suffered an upset at the hands of the determined Indians who played their best game of the season. Ivan Cole came to the spotlight as he raced for several long end runs, one which netted him a touchdown. The whole team played sensational football as Kingsport took over the number one spot in the state. KINGSPORT 27 STAIR TECH 6 Captains-Bingham, Shipley Kingsport trounced unmercifully a lighter Stair Tech team of Knoxville. J. Salley carried the pigskin for three touchdowns to be high scorer of the game. Although Anderson did not score, he had a spectacular 67 yard run to place the Indians well down in Stair Tech territory. KINGSPORT 6 BRADLEY 0 Captains-Puckett, Maddux This game found the Braves bat- tling for their scalps and the ball on a mud covered field at Bradley. The In- dians managed to squeeze out one touchdown which was set up by a 65 yard pass from Puckett to Maddux. We want a touchdown! KINGSPORT 39 ERWIN 7 Captains-Anderson, Shanks As Kingsport ripped off the first game of the Big Five Conference, Cole again came to the front as he scored 12 points. The highlights of the game were the superb passing from Craw- ford to Moneyhun and Puckett's 69 yard run. Hi Yea! Cccil Maddux! UCHEER DEVILS KINGSPORT 32 MARYVILLE 7 Captains-Brown, Groseclose The Indians invaded and massacred Maryville as Pucket and Anderson romped over for two touchdowns each. KINGSPORT 20 KNOXVILLE 13 Captains-Puckett, Maddux For the final non-conference game, the Indians threw the Knox High Trojans for a loss of 13 to 20. Sharing in the honors were Maddux, Ander- son, and J. Salley scoring 6 points each. Kingsport scored on two amazing trick plays and Maddux made a sensational catch for the other tally. CHEERLEADERS: Captain Magy Jean King. Louis Seaver, Joan Jennell, Marjorie Ring, jack Clayman, Louise Gilbreath, Paul Jordon, Marie Church, and jimmy Fletcher. The crowd rises and a tremen- dous yell goes up as Captain Puckett makes a sensational snatch right out of the opponents' hands and streaks down the floor to sink a beautiful crip- shot as the final buzzer sounds. This was a typical ending for many of the Indians' cage games this season as a great majority of them were won by a narrow margin. During the regular season the tribe played 21 games and won all but 6. In the tournament they played 5 games and lost in a heart-breaking thriller of the quarter-finals of the Regionals to Friendsville by one point. Never- theless, they had already captured the championship of the Big Five Con- ference and District. Undoubtedly the climax of the season was the easy defeat of Sullivan High by an 8 point margin after dropping the two scheduled games to them. Maryrille Captain Buster Fogle Coach Ed Shockey B-TEAM The Little Indians , better known as Shockey's Shock Troops , com- pleted another highly successful season this year. They played 14 games and dropped only 2, winning the Big Five championship of B-Teams. The prime importance of the B-Team is the supplying of the varsity with players, and Coach Shockey continually works to this end. The varsity this year contained at least five members of last year's B squad. The captain of this year's team was Buster Fogle. This year, after losing six of our star players, the team, under Coach Shockey, that great guy of sports, looks forward to another successful year. Coach predicted it would be a tough task to equal last year's team and that the great difficulty would be in getting the starting line-up The team will play a ten-game schedule, eight of which will be Big Five ' games, the additional two will be with Sullivan High and Virginia High of Bristol. The Sluggers who will lead our team to victory this year are Bobby Saylor, Cecil Maddux, and Bobby Bingham playing outfield Tommy Howard, Ike Neeley, Sidney Miller playing infield. Jack Moneyhun and Darrell Crawford playing catcher Puckett CCecilD and Paul Davis, pitching. Big Jack Fulkerson playing first base and Buster Fogle to play third.
