girls digest the gruesome details. They deserve a salute as they continue on their march to Victory. The boys are not to be forgotten in their respective branches of the Victory Corps. Many afternoons were spent on the athletic Held responding to commands. These boys learned real army terms and techniques in their marching. Many of them have already found use for these basic fundamentals of army life, and others will, in the near future, begin active marches to Victory. The knitters were an active group of girls this year. They could be found in almost every room and hall working on army and navy yarn. The Knitting Class had representatives throughout school since this was one activity in which there was no class distinction. These changed overnight from glamour girls to Uncle Sam's favorite nieces doing their part for his favorite nephews. A large number of scarfs were completed-one from every girl and more from a few with superfluous time, energy, and ambition. The pinafore girls, or Nurses' Aides, spent time and energy doing their bit to relieve the overwhelming duties of the registered nurses. They gave valuable assistance to the nurses and spread cheer among the bedridden. Miss Pennington sponsored and instructed them. Hospital bound persons have given these girls well-earned praise and support them in their march to Victory. dropped letters to the boys in a special mail box. This group also had charge of the tin can drive and handled it very successfully. The Girl Reserves sponsored the Red Cross Drive, and exceeded their goal. Also, the National Honor Society wrote alumni, faculty, and stu- dents in the armed services and heard from several who were in the fighting zones. The Dramatic Club sponsored two radio programs in assembly and took up collections which were presented to the canteen fund. These and others very actively marched on the highway to Victory The activity at Dobyns Bennett which was carried on in all schools in every state in the Union was the sale of stamps and bonds. The Beta Club sponsored this endless sale at our school which sold S30,000. in savings stamps and bonds in the Victory Drive this year. We do not pay income tax, but our dimes are marching the dollars to that inevitable Vie- tory. No matter what his talent, every boy and girl in high school has a place to fill in the Victory Corps. This year, the words of an old school song are recalled: An army of stu- dents are we Yes those who did not partici pate in any of these numerous activities this year will surely find places next year IS MARCHING TO VICTCRY One of the most important projects of the Victory Corps was the Military Drill Group Here is shown only a part of the approximate 75 boys who under thc command of Paul R Elliott faculty member and lieutenant in the local State Guard unit received invaluable drill two afternoons each week Serving as an inspiration to these students was the realization that fundamentals of military procedure learned here would mean that they would have an advantage over other rookies ' in the armed forces Page 111ne
