Pennington Cap fell 75-O. Chattanooga Central proved too hard a nut to crack, the final score being O-O. On a journey to Florida, Landon High of lack- sonville was scalped to the tune of 46-O. The first four conference games were won with ease, but a hard fought battle with Elizabethton resulted in a scoreless deadlock. In the last regular scheduled game the Knoxville Trojans received their worst defeat in years when Kingsport tomahawked them 29-6 at Knoxville. ln the first round of the state play-off Chattanooga was defeated l3-l2 in the last two minutes of play. This was undoubtedly the most thrilling game ever played in Kings- port. Five days later, worn out by too much football and hampered by injuries to key play- ers, Kingsport lost O-39 to Elizabethton. Over the four-year period of Coach Lyle Rich's tutelage Kingsport had won 43 games. lost 4, and tied 2, a remarkable record under any circumstances, especially so considering the opponents the Indians have faced. They have never lost an intersectional game, even though they have played such teams as jacksonville, Florida, and Peoria, Illinois. Although Hawk, Burgan, Bradley, Starnes, and Shivell will be lost through graduation, prospects are bright for a winning team next year. The i939 team placed Cifers, Hawk, and Burgan on the all-conference team, The same trio made the All-East Tennessee, Hawk and Cifers made the All-State with Cifers as captain-elect. Cifers and Hawk made the All-Southern and the All-Mid-South. Cifers set a new national scoring record of 222 points, breaking the former record of Zll points.
