The boys' basketball team had a tough season, but they were strong enough to make it through. I watched them pick themselves up after their losses only to put forth a greater effort. I can hear the balls dribbling down the courts in their late night practices. They were triumphant in their quest to refine knowledge and skills. Under the direction of 2nd year Coach Glenn McPherson, the Dukes had control of the ball throughout the season. Follow- ing a slow start the Princeton Thanksgiving Tourney, Dixon hit the bulk of their schedule in stride. Highlights of the regular season included defeating arch rival Sterling twice and an emotional first victory of the season over Sycamore. As the Dukes headed into post-season play, being defeated in 5 of the last 6 games played was discouraging for the team. However, the team, which included Chris Dixon, Jay Schaab, Mike Blaine, Shawn Ortigiesen, and Brad Jepson rose to the occasion on March 2 and captured 2nd place at the regional championships. Showing a lot of intensity and enthusiasm during the season, the Dukes proved themselves and closed with a record of 7-19.
