Boys Cross-Country « %■ Coach McCabe. Sid Aurand. Wayne Hoy. Tom Snyder. Mike Leslie. Bill O’Malley. Brian Bush- man. Pat Frost. The 1983 Varsity Boys Cross-Country team compiled a dual meet record of 7-11-2. The squad placed 9th at the NCIC meet and 5th at the Re- gional, missing a sectional berth by just one place. Leaders for the Dukes individually throughout the year were Sid Aurand. who placed 1st at the Rock Falls Invt.. 6th place at the NCIC meet and was a Sectional qualifier-, and Brian Bushman, who placed 13th at the NCIC meet and 18th at the Regional, barely missing qualifying for the sectional. The Fresh Soph boys placed 3rd as a team in the NCIC meet behind L-P and Rock Falls. With varsity lettermen Sid Aurand. Brian Bushman, and Mike Leslie returning to lead this promising group of underclassmen the prospects for the 1984 season look bright indeed. Another good turnout of underclassmen next season, combined with the Dukes returning winners, will give the team the depth needed to realize its goals of a successful 1984 season.

Girls Seventh in State The Dixon girls’ golf team continued its standard of excellence by advancing to the IHSA State Golf Tournament this year. The girls had a superb record of 10 and I. The team started its road to state by winning its own invitational with 385. three strokes better than Moline. Individually Patty Larkin finished second with 92. The girls faltered a little by placing sixth in the Guilford Invitational. They came back at the Champaign Invitational, which is considered a mini- state-tournament. The girls finished a strong third among the stron- gest teams in the state. It was a cold, rainy day for the Dixon Regional, but the girls rose above all conditions and finished first, advancing to one of the toughest sectionals in Illinois at Lake Forest. The team finished a close third ahead of Barrington. The top three teams advanced to the state tournament. Dixon was on its way to Normal. Illinois. The first day of the tournament was pouring down rain. The officials decided to cancel the day’s scores and make it a one day tournament. The next day was a little better, at least it only rained half the day. Dixon finished seventh out of the twelve best golf teams in the state. Special congratulations are directed to the ’83'84 golf team: Patty Larkin Sr. and co-captain. Hollie Sherman Sr. and co-captain, Angie Blaine Soph., Missy Beede, Jr., Jill Beier Soph., Joy Buck Soph., Midge Magdich Fr.. and Stacey Wolford Fr. There aren’t enough ways to say thank you to Mr. Lessner, the girls and boys golf teams’ coach. This man has dedicated many hours not only during golf season but during the summer months to shape the exceptional teams Dixon has had year after year after year. One can say that the talent of the players are the result of a winning team, but it is much more than that. Mr. Lessner does more than make sure the teams get to meets. Fie works on the mechanics of the swings plus the mental aspects of golf. Again, a thousand thank yous to you, Mr. Lessner.
