Jon Schaab. and Dan Lendman. 18 The Varsity Dukes began the 1983 season slow, yet came back with two wins. In their first three games the Dukes were defeated by Crystal Lake 7-42, De- kalb 36-12, and lost in overtime to Rochelle 7-0. At mid-season the Dukes were able to defeat Ottawa 17- 16 in overtime. The Dukes were let down as they lost their next two games against Geneseo 7-28 and La- Salle-Peru 7-27. The Dukes won the Homecoming game against Streator 13-6 despite the rainy weather which pushed halftime festivities indoors. The 1983 season came to a close as the Varsity Dukes lost their last two games to Sterling 12-50 and Rock Falls 20-17 in overtime. Ben Fichter, Todd Struhs, Jeff Bridgeman. John Dixon, and Jim Seloover were chosen captains at the beginning of the season. The Dukes elected Todd Struhs Most Valuable” and Best Defensive player, Scott Maves Most Improved”, Jeff Bridgeman Captain”. Sean Quick Best Special Team” and Butch Scharer, and Todd Struhs were also chosen to the All-Conference team.
