Boaz struggles with Bruce when he accuses his son of murder. Boaz consoles his neighbor. Richards, Neal, Melnyk Make District Cast This year Dixon High School’s Drama Depart- ment presented Footfalls at both Conference and District Contests sanctioned by NCIC. This one-act drama centered around a blind cobbler, Boaz Portuquez (John Melnyk), and his son, Manuel (Wayne Neal). Boaz was overly pro- tective toward his son and refused to let him work. Hence the townspeople throught of Manuel as lazy. One of Boaz’s tenants, Bruce Campbell (Bob Smith) takes advantage of the town's opinion of Manuel to blame a robbery and a murder on him. Mrs. Helen M. Carter, the DHS speech instruc- tor, was director of Footfalls. Under her direction, the team advanced to Sectional by placing second at the District meet. Bruce greets a fisherman friend of Boaz. Manuel cleans his father's shop. 19

Rhondi Reed stars in Everybody Loves Opal Mrs. Helen Carter, drama director, chose the comedy. Everybody Loves Opal for this year’s fall play. The cast includes Monte Long as Brad Winter, Kenneth L. Mil- ler, as Solomon Bojo. David Herzog, as the doctor, Wayne Neal, as officer Jankie, and Gay Yeazel, as Gloria Gulock. Rhondi Reed played the leading roll as Opal Kronkie. Four of the six members of the cast were seniors and National Thespians. “Everybody Loves Opal provided a change from last year's more serious production, and the cast received standing ovations after each performance. The members of the family toast their health. Opal and her cat pose before the understanding plant. Opal gets a disgusting insurance physical.

Mesfin prepares to sample Dixon's cafeteria food. Dixonian staff members find time to chat with Mesfin Mesfin and Tom DePaul study sound waves with an oscilloscope. Ethiopian, Mesfin Haile Comes To Dixon High After becoming the pen-pal of a DHS student, Mesfin Haile, decided to become a student here himself. The eighteen year old son of an Ethiopian senator came to America for five years the first of which was spent liv- ing with Greg Kishbaugh and going to Dixon High. Mesfin carried five advanced subjects this year including U.S. History, Current History, Geometry, Project Physics and his own favorite English IV. Mesfin is one of 8 boys and 3 girls, and plans to spend his next 4 years in the U.S. at Carthage College majoring in either Political Science or Economics. At the end of this time he wishes to return to his native Ethiopia and become involved in the government. 20
