El Circulo de Espanol un' it Spanish Club began its activities on Qctober 14 this year with Mrs Helen Qhrapla our new Spanish teacher as adviser At this first meeting im Mercer was elected president, ohn ones vice president and patWadsworth secretary treasurer The outstanding meeting of the year was the Christmas party held in the gym While the members sang the Pinata Song Conny Saari tried blindfolded to brealc the pinata a gayly decorated paper grab bag hung from the ceiling on a wire f'lowever before she could get a suc cessful blow to brealc the pinata the wire broke and it fell to the floor with gifts falling in all directions. After each person had grabbed what he thought was the best present, ice cream, candy, and cupcakes were served, and we sang Christmas carols in Spanish to end the morningfs fun. At subsequent meetings we were shown a movie about Mexico and tall4s were given by Peggy Pitzer about Mex: can cocl4 fighting and anet Gronberg about her trip to Mexico At one meeting a play was presented by a group of Spanish students This play was about a young senorita Carmelita played by pat Wadsworth who fell in love with an American sailor played by aclc Cleary only to discover he had a sweetheart baclc in the United States ln the end Carmelita went back to her original lover Carlos played by ohn ones and everything ended happily Qthers in the cast were Mary Ann Metz Laura Rhodes Lois Doland, Barbara Cledon, ohn l-lein- del, and Bill Palen.
