The first is to resent a ictorial record of the ast year at P P P , Dixon High School. lllhether or not we have accom- plished this remains for the student body to decide. Gur other aim, and perhaps the fundamental reason for the publishing of this book, is to produce a tangible, rather than an abstract memorial to the Senior class. It seems only proper that the emphasis in a book like this should be placed on the Seniors, for after all, this book will undoubtedly be cherished more by them than by any other class. Therefore, we respectfully dedicate this Senior Year Book to the class of 1933. Page 6 The Senior Class of 1933 is most grateful to the members of the Dixon High School faculty, for the splendid opportunities they have given us, both as individuals and as a class to develop personality and talent in addition to scholarship. The teacher, engaged to teach English or history. who sacrifices his or her leisure hours to extra-curricular activities with the students, supplies them with unre- placeable means of enjoyment and improvement. Since the faculty has made it possible for this class to participate in numerous organizations, the average senior is better equipped to meet the problems of life than students from any other high school in the vicinity. -1 1933 ------ nior Year Book - i Faculty A. LOAN EXHIBIT One of the most unusual and interesting exhibits ever held in Dixon was the Loan Exhibit in the gymnasium under the auspices of the High School P. T. A. Mrs. L. M. Davies, assisted by many chairmen of other departments, was the general chairman of the exhibit. With the kind co-operation of the townspeople, the P. T. A. was able to make it possible for everyone to see collections of handsome objects from all over the world, as well as many family relics. The exhibits were divided into several different departments and arranged on long tables around the room. There were many treasures too numerous to mention but among these was a handsome German bible loaned by Mr. Brauer. The book was written entirely in German and the illustrations were pictures of the members of the reigning German house. Mrs. Withers, chairman of the Indian section was able to obtain a very fine collection of hand made Indian work from Miss Caroline Eels. Mrs. VVillard Thompson gathered a number of articles which were placed in a miscellaneous section. In this division was a beautiful Chinese locket about three hundred years old, loaned by Mrs. Fred King, some hair jewelry loaned by Mrs. L. D. Dement, two chairs almost one hundred and fifty years old loaned by Miss Becker, and many otherarticles. The collection of paper weights, the most unique being loaned by Mr. Brauer, was very interesting. Mrs. Joseph Beech exhibited some Chinese embroidery which attracted much admiration. Mrs. Robert Sterling was in charge of the lace, and perhaps the most outstanding piece was a rose-point lace bertha belonging to Miss Fannie lWurphy. Mrs. Zolen Glatter charmingly arranged several of her own Hungarian vases and beautiful embroidery. There were many other departments including quilts, brass, copper, shawls and firearms. As a feature of the program about fifty high school girls wore costumes from many periods ranging from pre-Civil VVar to Post-World War. Since there were many varieties and colors of costumes it is impossible to describe them all here but choose a typical one from each period. Kathleen Feely was dressed as a typical Gibson Girl in a dress with a scarlet bodice. Emma Stein wore a white dress belonging to Mrs. Richard Bovey. Eleanor Ketchin, as a bridesmaid, wore a gold taffeta ball gown. Emily Swan was dressed as a bride in a lovely gown, belonging to Mrs. Willard Thompson, and surrounded by the usual bridesmaids. -Anne Davies Page40 - - 1933 -ll Se nior Year Bo ok SENIOR CLASS PLAY Everyone enjoyed Listen lVorld',, the Senior Class Play, presented on Decem- ber 9, and IO. Wie of the staff had before us a serious problem in securing financial support. In our distress We appealed to these men, who in an unselfish attitude, gave liberally to our cause. Surely such an attitude, of which we are so proud, should be acknowledged. And we sincerely feel that words cannot express our appreciation for such support. -l-- 1933 -1- Senior Year Book MEN WHO IJELPED NIAKE THE X7EAR BOOK POSSIBLE ARI' DR. DR DR DR. J. H. IQENNEDY H. M.
