Additionally the division is responsible for the training of the ship's reactionforcesandhelmsmen. W-1, maintains a variety of missiles, toypedoesandmines. Thedivisionis charged with the maintenance and repair of all assigned magazines, weapons elevators, pneiunatic hoists and cognizant sprinkler systems. W-1 personnel are qualified to perform open ocean torpedo recoveries, makingDbcontheonlysubmar'inetenderonthe West Coast qualified to recover torpedoes. W-Zistasked with trouble shooting and performing corrective maintenance on fire control equipment on assigned Lmits. The Gunners Mates maintain accountability for all armament and small arms on the ship and maintain associated magazines and sprinkler systems. W-2 personnel aid in Weapons safety training and qualifying of all shipboard personnel. Special Weapons, W-3, is responsible for the handling, storing, build-up, maintenance and repair of tomahawk missiles on tended submarines and surfacecombatantships. W-6 is comprised of Weapons Quality Assurance andWeightTest shops. Quality Assuranceinspectsweaponsissuedtotended unitsactsassafetyobserversduringweapons andexplosiveordnanoetransferslheyinspect andcertifyallordnancehandlingequipment.
