D-3 Division The maintenance and proper operation and handling of the DIXON utility boats is the primary concern of D-3 Division. The twelve boats assigned to the ship, as well as the boat deck where they are stored, must be constantly tended in order to ensure that they do not deterior- ate from the salt water environment. The utility boats are used daily to transfer weapons, supplies, and personnel.
