Sunday, May 21, 139 young people wearing gowns and funny little hats with tassels, slowly walked onto the football field. After twelve years of loose study, final exams and worry, the day was here. Some girls cried, and among the boys there was a feeling of sudden solemnness. It was a loss, but yet a gain. You have lost the closeness of your friends that you have acquir- ed over twelve years. For no more will they share the troubles and turmoils of growing up. As they received their diplomas and walked away it marked the end of an era. The 1972 seniors were gone and only files and memories remained. eff Q VALEDICTORIAN: joy Mohler SALUTATORIAN: Donna Osborne CLASS PRESIDENT: Ken Rice CLASS COLORS: Rust and Gold CLASS FLOWER: Daisy CLASS MOTTO: We strive to the la unreachable star. st ounce of courage to reach the 1 nq'Y'.5 Q QP' . . The story revolves around the Creative De- partment of the Wameke Cemical Company and its life-death struggle with a New York agency, which finally culminates in one of the strangest advertising schemes ever con- ceived. In the end the company is saved by the combined efforts of the Creative De- partment. Mr. Stancliff fwho is with the New York agencyj, is put in his place, and Mr. Kendring fthe bossy, finally agrees to bow to the authority of Mr. Barker, who heads the Creative Department. The show was believed to be the funniest in Dixie High School's history. Sopranos: S. Adkins, T. Marsh, S. Neff, T. Armstrong, K. Evans, L. Fogle, L. Jernee, 1. McNinch, P. Novak, B. Price, P. ER At the program this year we had a number of different teach- ers speaking and appearances by the principal and assistant principal. For the Master of Ceremonies, we had Captain Russ Guerra, who honored all the students receiving awards and made general comments about everything else that went on. Between awards, Mr. Mueller and Capt. Guerra tried to outdo each other in insults and overall comments. But in spite of all the insults, the awards program turned out to be very successful. yr' Boys,And Girls' Track Marvin Denlinger, John Weghorst, Jeff Denius, Ron Castle, Tom Blosser, Ken Hale, Stuart Martt, Fred Askins, Chuck Marquis, Jon Kerschner, Paul Russell, jeff Keischner, Gary Martin, Duncan McDonough, Mike Hileman, Garry Moore, Bob Bergland, Mark Sauer, Mike Raines, Jim Olt, Managers: Glen Rose, Dan Butcher. Q83 3 1 Rome Arreviderci Rome, until we meet again in Rome was the theme for the Prom. As we wrestled with miles of crepe paper and armed ourselves with staple guns, the gym, slowly but miraculously turned into a Roman city As we passed by the rose trellis in the garden and gazed at the Gods we dreamt dreams tht only the young can dream. The chariots came and left the city soon desert- ed until next spring. Members of the Royal Court were: Becki Hanshew, Bev Leis, Pat Smith, Sandy Mclntosh, Paul Profitt, Roger Burchett, Darrell, and Bob Berglan. Sandy Mclntosh and Bob Bergland were crowned King and Queen. 3 V6 x ew-xi , Q X . 13 'rf 'l .-s.,' ka 'Rm.,Q --1-..,.,,,, , R' I W A . L ' ,-X., R 5-.3 ' .iii -l. '.v vi- HKQ , 1 X, 2 I... Such was the Youth for Christ's Hootenaxmy. The evening began by stuffing a bathtub to over- flowing with 38 kids, followed by a messy whipped cream fight with Mark Dillion claiming the victory. Rick Wharton from Farmerville, and two college students all the way from Hardin- Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, came to sing and wit- ness. The evening ended with hayrides and awarding the portable television door prize to Mark Smith. an Q E I '7i?sIX b., X On Wednesday, October 27, the junior Class held a return debate with Valley View, the subject being whether or not Red China should be admitted to the U.N. In the judging, both schools were equal in presentation, but Dixie was victorious because of the way the rebuttal and the question and answer period was handled by the panelists. 63 E A U in X 71 gf: O11 Freshman Kevin Larkin, Leann Profitt Sophomore Mike Clymer, Maureen Larkin junior: Doug Sebastian, Karen Lee Senior: Paul Profitt, Becki I-lanshew, Roger Burchett, janet Golden, Dave Tarpley, Micl-ci Coriell. The end of the football season brings the be- ginning of basketball. Basketball, a tradition. The 62 and 66 state champions, Columbus Hines, the awards and players were a part of Dixie basketball tradi- tion. Now, with time, they're gone. The new always replaces the old, but tradition still stands. The year of 1972 was no different. Games were played. Some were won, others lost. But it isn't always victory, it's work, dedication, and the will to win that's important. For the season is long, players, coaches and fans tire, but the thrill of winning and the closeness of the team are never forgotten. This ye ar will always be remembered.
