We Deciieate This Annual to our American Heritage We are Americans. We live in the greatest nation in the world today. We have the highest standard of living of any people on the face of this earth. We can say, print, worship, work and live as we like. We have an educational system that strives to give all an equal chance for success in life. Our nation is made up of a unique people, a people whose desire for freedom and self-betterment brought them across a cold and monstrous Atlantic. A people whose spirit and faith brought them through plagues, famines, blizzards, and wars. It is sad that weAmericanstodaytake our ancestry so lightly. History to us is usually just a step for gaining credits toward graduation instead of the tear-stained faces and gnarled hands of men and women settling a new and untamed land. With God's help and their strong determination, our ancestors won their freedom, only to realize that com- plete freedom is impossible. There must be something and someone to guide. Then the Constitution was born, and the United States of America came into being. The young nation survived crisis, revolution and hardship. Pioneers boldly crossed endless miles of prairies, deserts, mountains and rivers, until the nation could slumber with the Pacific as its pillow and the Atlantic as its footboard. Soon the eastern industries were joined with the western gold mines and cattle empires by the iron horse . Then cars puffed' and rattled across crude, rough roads. America soon realized that oceans are not absolute barriers between us and Europe, and that freedom is not strictly an American commodity. Not long after the guns of the Civil War were silent, our nation had to fight for freedom's sake on foreign soil. After a short era of wild celebrating, depression darkened the land, but America was not yet ready for a pine box, and recovered with enough vigor to go out and produce planes, cars, new products, new medicines, and new ideas such as no one had ever dreamed would be possible. America has always met one crisis only to find, another awaiting. We must now meet more foes - Com- munism, care of our fellow man, civil strife. Americans of tomorrow must face these challenges just as our ancestors faced and solved so many problems. We dedicate this 1965 Annual to those immortals who built this free and majestic land. But more than that, we dedicate this annual to America's heritage of the future - to those who will be willing to live lives dedicated to keeping our land one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for al1 .
