Class Hlstory A SENIORS DIARY May 29 1930 Dear Dsary There goes the fsrst grade of school What a lot of fun st was' Mrs Brumbaugh was our teacher s name She must have had good nerves to take care of us fsfty four lsttle meanses We had two sets of twsns sn our room Msrsam and Qusnter Hoover and Wslodene and Eugene Erbaugh Also there were Marcus Comer Arthur Dsllon Ruthe Erbaugh Kath ersne Guntle Howard Hanshew Robert Henry Vsr gsnla Kang Eugene Ksnsey Roger Msllskun Helen Morrsson Howard Weaver and Jeannette Wysong Now that my fsrst year as over I realsze that ssnce I have learned my a b cs and how to add 2 and 2 I am on my merry way to be a good old av erage Amerscan cstszen May 1933 Dear Dsary Im sn the fourth grade now Someone must have torn out the pages where I wrote about my sec ond and thzrd grade expersences There are a few thsngs that I dsstsnctly remember though For sn stance the tsme I stood sn the corner under the able durectson of Mrs Somers my teacher It was sn the thsrd grade that Mr Woods our mussc teacher taught us to ssng Once a Lsttle Dassy our favorste song Lsttle curly headed Phyllss Shadoan honored us by her entrance at that tsme She took all the fellow s eyes as she came sn bashfully sn her lsttle red ruffled dress CShe s ussng st for dustung cloths now! Also lsttle Dottse Jean Norrss made her appearance Mnss Cathersne Cotterman was our teacher then Now that we re an the fourth arade we really feel we re gettsng old Mrs Campbell ss our teacher We are now takung exams regularly and wuthaut a murmur MAY 1934 Dear Dsary Lsttle Donna Smith panned us thss fsfth grade sn our march to the upper halls Miss Erssman made us walk the chalk thus year MAY 1935 Dear Dsary We re sn the last days of our grade school be cause next year we go up stasrs We even get real dsplomas and Mr Prsser took a pucture of each of us free Msss Roberts gusded us through our ssxth grade MAY 1937 Dear Dsary Now that I m sn the esghth grade I realsze that my grade school years have passed all too qusckly lm really on my own as I have struggled around up here sn these deep dark halls trysng to get used to rhangxng rooms for each class We organszed our class for the fsrst tame last year with Howard Hanshew as our able pressdent Our fnrst class party was a huge success It was out at Harold Fruend s house a new comer thss year I dont thsnk he had a hay stack left after we got through playsng tag on st Now our esghth grade exams are rasssng thesr ugly faces before us But why should we worry about them? Class Prophecy For fufteen years I had been rovung the strange corners of the world un search of adventure One day un l956 I found Mrs Stutz teachung a group of Hottentots shorthand Mrs Stutz was my class advusor un l94l In the course of our conversatuon I asked her what had happened to some of my old class mates Lets go fund them was her characterustuc reply It was not untul we were on the boat half way to New York that I thought to ask her why she had quut teachung at Duxue and had gone to such a far off post Mrs Stutz then told me that her former pupul Helen Morruson had become so profucuent un com mercual that she had become a co teacher at Duxue Sunce Mrs Stutz thought Muss Morruson to be quute competent she left to teach the Hottentots where I had found her At New York we hauled a taxu Who should the druver be but Marcus Sonny Comer' He was go ung through red lughts and around corners on two wheels just the some as he always dud back un New Lebanon On our way to the hotel we saw a famuluar fugure pauntung the menu on Jae s Hamburger Jount Sonny pulled the taxu over to the sudewalk and yelled Hey Ted It was none other than Ted Brucker happuly splashung paunt to hus hearts content We asked Sonny to take us to a good hotel so after a few more munutes we pulled up to a beautu ful modern hotel wuth a red neon sugn sayung Hotel Dullon We found the owner and manager to be Arthur Dullon who had learned all about managung a hotel from Mr Bloom un Economuc class ln response to Mrs Stutz s askung how busuness was he saud Well I havent made my furst mulluon e Whule we were regusterung a group of curcus people came un One of theur number was Muruam Hoover who told us that she had a good posutuon as the bare back ruder who twurled three batons' We decuded to fly to Dayton the next mornung Upon boardung the plane we found our attractuve hostess to be Dorothy Jean Norrus Dorothy confessed to us that her secret desure durung her hugh school career was to be a hostess l always saud I wanted to go as far un the world as a woman can so at least lm gomg as hugh as one can was Dorothy s comment on her career Do you know who the pulot s7 she asked Sunce we saud that we dudnt she unformed us that ut was Ruchard Good one of Ameruca s ace pulots Dor othy and Ruch seemed to be gettung along fune but then Dorothy always dud luke red heads you know We dudnt see any more Duxue folks untul we were back un Dayton As we were walkung down town we saw Vurgunua Kung pullung her luttle Hoop down the street As we walked down the street Vurgunua pounted out the hustory behund each changed detaul A smartly dressed young lady hurrued down the street and nearly bumped unto us We found ut to be Kaye Harrow under an ummense summer hat Kaye was one of Dayton s best known unteruor decorators She explauned to us that she had an appountment wuth Mr and Mrs Harold Fruend They wanted her to redecorate theur house for theur tenth weddung annu versary When we went past Keuths Theater we saw that the pucture l m Just a Country Gurl was beung shown featurung the lovely Jeanette Wysong After seeung the pucture we were completely persuaded that Jeanette was the best actress we had ever seen We took a bus out to Duxue to see uf we could fund any one we knew there When we reached dear old Duxue we found the place un great confusuon One of the students explauned that the chemustry lab room had just suffered a terrufuc explosuon Then out of the room ran Ramona McNelly the teacher sumply tearung her haur She told us that the co teacher Howard Weaver had put a puece of phosphorus the suze of an egg un some water In addutuon to Helen and Ramona we found an other member of the 4l class on the teachung staff It was the versatule Ruthe Erbaugh who taught musuc and French We talked wuth Ruthe a whule and found she had the same old habut of rausung one eye brow We found too that sunce she couldnt re member the students names she usually saud H drup to each Mrs Stutz through the years had acquured a love for peanuts so when she heard that Wyona Johnson had set up a peanut stand un New Leb anon she made a bee lune for ut The latest news was that Archue Bowser had brought Wyona to a P TA meetung not long ago We stopped at the GES sewung school to see Katherune Guntle Wulodene Erbaugh and Donna Smuth before leavung They told us the structly con fudentual news that Lulluan Sumon was runnung for presudent of the Unuted States at the next campaugn but un close competutuon wuth her was Paul McGruff who was wunnung the hearts of the natuon by hus guutar As we were just leavung the gurls asked us uf we had vusuted Buel Woodue s new photo shop We went across the street and of all the strange sughts I have ever seen I thunk I saw the strangest there Roger Mullukun was takung hus favorute cow Elsue to have her pucture taken Whule we were admurung the cow Bob Henry came to have hus pucture taken to put un the paper because he was to make a bug speech that nught on How to Rouse Turnups He told us that hus raduo sponser was Quunter Hoover who advertused a new fenceless fence for farms Oh yes Bob saud Our musucuan us the sung ung cowboy Paul Summons We also learned that Paul was stull a bachelor wuth a gurl un every port That evenung for entertaunment we went to see some professuonal basketball We thought the man ager looked quute famuluar and undeed he was for ut was Eugene Erbaugh The star player that evenung was Howard Hanshew who seemed to have put on a luttle weught although Manager Erbaugh assured us that he only weughed about one hundred and nunety nune pounds We were each guven hand bulls that nught ask ung us to vote for Eugene Kunsey who was runnung for dog catcher We were glad to see that he was do ung so well Dont you want to see some of the other classes?
