She has shared in our fun, especially the fun of the Follies, in which she put forth so much effort to make this musical production a success and a thing to be remembered by us, the gradu- ating class, Whatever the future may hold for her, Whether it be more years of teaching at Dixie or settling down to a hap- pily married life, We Wish her a successful future and say from the bottom of our hearts, c'Thank youf, Seven Contents Page Dixie Heights High School . . 4 In Memoriam .... . 5 Dedication . . - 5 Theme . . . - 9 Board Members . - 10 Faculty . . . . 12 Campus Scenes - 14 Class History . - 15 Class Song . . - 16 Class Officers . 18 Seniors .... . 19 Mr. and Miss Dixie - 30 Class Play . . - 31 Personality . . . 32 Class Will . . - I 37 junior Prom . . 39 Prophecy . . 40 Classes . - 42 Music . 45 Sports . . 49 Clubs . - 61 Ads . . 69 Eight NYS Q 13' W 'ggsfww is Mfg em ff? 65 '75 Board Members MH. We re- member so well that day we met together in the auditorium for the first time. We recall, now fondly, and again sadly, the trials and tribulations of those first two years. It was all a little strange, although now we wonder how it could have ever been. But as we entered our first year of high school, we felt that we were in. We were fully organized as a class for the first time, and although we sponsored no important activities that year, it was a foundation for the year to come. As sophomores, we were grateful for the in- valuable help of our sponsors, Mrs. Fitz-Hugh and Mr. Harris. Our class officers were: Frank Hicks, President, Glenn Dammert, Vice-Presi- dent, Ioan Stewart, Secretary, Kent Savage, Treasurer. Ordering our class rings at the beginning of the Junior year was an exciting event but then we were faced with the problem of making money for the Junior Prom. Some activities that helped solve our problem were giving dances after the football and basketball games and selling magazine subscriptions. Our officers for this eventful year were: Philip Yelton, Presi- dent, Dewey Benson, Vice-President, Buddy Rouse, Treasurer, Ioan Stewart, Secretary. Our class sponsors were Miss Allgeyer and Mr. Green. We cannot think of our Iunior year without remembering the thrill of winning the district tournament trophy as well as the regional tro- phy, and of thumbing, begging, and stealing rides to see our boys play in the state tourna- ment in Louisville. Those of our class who were members of the team were: Kent Savage, Bar- ry Iolson, Sox Benson, and Floyd Click. The Junior Prom crowned our year of pleas- ant activities as we crowned the King and Queen of the Prom, Bill Kwozalla and Ada Belle Gaines, respectively. For this all-important senior year we elected as officers Bill Barkhau, President, Joe Purdy, Vice-President, Buddy Rouse, Treasurer, Eileen Allen, Secretary. Our sponsors were Miss Rogers and Mrs. Miller. Many of the yearis activities have been directed toward get- ting out a good annual. Toward this end we have sold Christmas cards and solicited ads for the annual. The events that stand out in our minds as being important to our Senior year are the an- nual Alumni Ball in honor of the graduates, at which time Mr. and Miss Dixie the XI, Glenn Dammert and Ioan Stewart, were presented, and the third and most successful Follies Dixie has ever produced. Before the annals of the class of ,48 are closed, let this class be clearly placed upon the records as thanking our teachers, coaches, and parents for their wonderful assistance through the most important period of our lives. We as a group have been faced by a most critical period of our countryis history - the ending of a war and the beginning of a peace, a peace which we trust and hope will continue into the long years to come. Q Alice Garran Class Song And Now Farewell When we picture our high school way up near the sky, lust a tear of remembrance will come to our eye, Our memories of Dixie we,ll ever hold high . . . U And now farewell. The games that we lost and the games that we won, The Follies and dances where we had such fun, Our strolls ,round the campus, the warm summer sun . . . And now farewell. Weall recall our classes, the lads and all the lasses, Our Senior Play, Alumni Ball-how could we forget them all? And now graduation will take us away, But deep in our hearts all your memories will stay. We leave you our thanks, then we go on our way . . . And now farewell. -Ioan Stewart. fig x iii ff, Wig Haig, ,'.iYff: QSL3 in bf 377 Y' v Kxy7 . Q f5 L1-ft to right: Bill Bzlrkluul. M ,I 'mn -111:11 J' JOAN t-STEWART MISS DIXIE XI and GLENN DANIMERT NIR. DIXIE XI are the two members of our class chosen by the other members to be Mr. and Miss Dixie XI. They were chosen for their leadership, scholarship, sportsman- ship, and popularity, which are the characteristics we think are necessary for the titles they have received. On the night of December 22, 1947, the Senior Class played host to the great number of Dixie Alumni at the school's annual Alumni Ball. The music was furnished by the Rhythm Kings Orchestra. Mr. and Miss Dixie XI Were presented with key corsages, symbolizing the key to the school because of their outstanding contributions to it. Thirty The Class Play . From the informality of the classroom to the modern office of a publishing firm is quite a jump, but that is exactly what a group of fifteen Seniors did one day at the end of April. The team started oil rather slowly because the boys who were trying to make the squad were perhaps a bit over anxious to show the coach what they could do. From a large number of boys to choose from the team was gradually molded into a smooth working machine with Dammert. Savage. liedwine, lligney, and hlolson, doing all the heavy work. They were aided at times with the help of Xlorrison, Rankin, Krekler. and Yelton. Those who didnlt get a chance as a first string man usually picked up some experience in the reserve game.
