Our theme is intended to portray the change from war to peace, ancl l'o eniiven our memories so that we may not forget the war-lorn years and the boys who gave their lives to safeguard our future. Dixie's goId-star boys are George VViIson, John Nlorris, Cecil Coins. Roy Plymesser, Henry Cole, and Ralph Duffie. They had faith in our ahilily to guard and to cherish world peace and they entrust us with that task. Page Tweniy-four DONALD DAMMERT DONALD BLACKBURN GEORGE SWINFORD JEFF BROWNING Four members of the Senior Class of '46 were called to active service and were unable to graduate with the class. We wish to pay special tribute to these boys who had to give up their senior activities and delay their education while serving their country. Our service boys are Donald Dammert. Navy; Donald Blackburn. Army: George Swinford. Navy; and JeH: Browning, Navy. Page, Trucnlykfinu i ; J Glam Jabw December 7, 1941Hpeari Harbor and a world at war. Though we were in only the eighth grade when our country entered the war, we realized that ours were not to be normal years of high-schooi life in a world at peace. However. as the first class to graduate from Dixie in the post-war era, we do feel that there could not have been four years more full of inn and unforgettable fellowship in our numerous activities. During our first year of high schoot we were unorganized as a ciass. Our large size made it necessary for us to he divicied into three home rooms which made working together diiticuit. in our Sophomore year, we became uniteci under our First president of the class, Jimmy Deister. We gave one dance after a basket- ioa game which was our First experience in working together. The Senior Class extencied us an invitation to attend the Alumni Bait. making us the first Sophomore Ciass to be thus honored. As Juniors. our main activity was the Junior Prom which we gave in April. With the help of our sponsors. Miss Aiigeyer and Mr. Greene, and under the leadership of our class officers. Bi Gregory, president; Ellen Young, vice-presi- dent: Donald Dammert. secretary: and Leonard Schulte. treasurer; we gave three very successr fut dances after basketball games. These along with the magazine subscriptions and pencils which we soict furnished the funds that made our Junior Prom one of the most beautiful ever to he given at Dixie. We chase as King and Queen, Charles Madden and Doris Hunt. The termination of the war in Europe ciimaxcd a very eventful Junior year. In our fourth year. we elected as our class otticers Glenn Wegener. president; Mike John son. vice-presicient: Shirley Eger. secretary: Ellen Young. treasurer; anci immediately plunged into tile whirl of Senior activities. Our corsponsors and friends, Mrs, iViiiier and Mrs. Price, helped us to start Clubs which we feel Contribute much to the extraacurricuiar iite of Dixie. We chose Bob Vosituhi and Helen Ross to be Mr. anct Miss Dixie IX. and in November we gave the annual Alumni Ba . Later in the year we chose the Annual Statt with Betty Teipei. editor. We gave tour dances after games. a skating party, and a Moonlight boat ricie in the spring. We also soici ads for the Annual and experienced a new unity in working together on these projects. Now we are fast approaching the end of tour wonderful years of high schooii We are eager for the new experiences which lay before us and reaciy tor the future. But, as we prepare for Baccaiiaureate, Class night, and Graduai tion. we find ourselves thinking about the friends we have made: and remembering. as we will again and again in the future, the truly unforgettable experiences we have shared here at Dixie. Queen The most exciting part of our Junior Prom was the coronation of Doris Ann Hunt and Charles Madden as Queen and King. They were chosen because of their outstanciing personalities and scholastic ability. As has been the custom, the queen was chosen by the boys and the king was Chosen by the girls. Page TIIirIy-two Wm Imam Mam The highlight of 1945 was the Junior Prom given in the gymnasium on April 27. It will always be remembered as one of the mosl en- joyable occasions of our high school years. As it by magic the gymnasium became a French side-watk rate with cotortut awnings extending over the tables, and quaint tamp posts lending a ctim, dreamy ettect to the room. Painted scenes depicting French pastry shops. hat shops and wine shops covered the watts. The music of Cevit Young's orchestra added an enchantment t0 the already beautiful room. A large part of the Prom's success we owe to Miss Kitgore, the art director, and to Miss Attgeyer and Mr. Greene, the class sponsors. VVe opened the season with three straight lasses. The first of the two being lost to Roger Bacon, one ot'ttle best teams in Cincinnati. The next defeat came at the hands of Louisville tVlate. rated the best team in the state. In our third game we played a better brand of ball although losing to Holmes. who later won the Conference Championship. Against Ludlow, Dixie was held scoreless the first ha but in the second half clicked 0H 26 points to win our first game. The game with Lloyd was never in doubt as Dixie won easily. Things were looking good, but in our next game Dayton really blastect our hopes with a decisive victory over us. The Final two games were played in a Field of mud. The Campbell County game was won easily, as Dixie scored in every quarter of the game- The final game of the season found Dixie traveling to Highland who outplayed Dixie for 295. quarters and had too large a lead for Dixie to overcome. The. final score was '26-I3, Ten seniors llelped to make up the squad anct att ten of the boys earned letters. They were: Ralph Caldwell. Danny Eastep. Bill Gregory, Mike Johnson, Charles Jones. Led by Robert HBob Voskuhi, Dixie's high point man, the Little Colonels came out to win the N. K. A, C. by a close two point margin. Other Seniors who led in the scoring were Jack Witthamp. Charles Nladden. and Bill Gregory. Through the cooperation of the whole team, the Little Colonels Ieci the N. K. A. C. during most of the season, They had a few close games with Beechwooo, Belle- vue. and Ludlow, winning by only two or three: points. The District Tournament held here at Dixie proveci very exciting. In our first game we played Simon Kenton. hVe were hanticappeci by the loss of ,Voskuhl who receivecl a sprained ankle in the preceding game, but we won by a Close 25 to 24 margin. The second game with Ludiow was also a thrilling game with the score ending 43 to 40. The last District game was with Beechwood. This was a usudden death game with two overtime periods. Dixie finally won 31 1'0 29. The following week we -went to Newport to play Campbell County in the opening game of the Regional Tournament, but we lost 27 lo 34. That loss ended our suc- cessful season. The Seniors pay tribute to coach Earl Kit Carson and assistant coach Boyd Niahan. who turned out such a splendid team. P4301: SQUMR.
