The worici has been torn hy war and strife for so many years that we, as the first peace-time graduating class, may tremhie a little at the problems we wiii have to face anci to solve, to the best of our ability, for ourselves and our posterity. Our theme is intended to portray the change from war to peace, anci to eniiven our memories so that we may not forget the war-torn years and the boys who gave their lives to safeguard our future. Dixieys goici-star hoys are George Vviison, John Morris, Cecil Goins, Roy Piymesser, Henry Cole, and Ralph Dutfie. They had faith in our ability to guarci anci to cherish world peace, and they entrust us with that task. Vve shall accept this challenge and shaii never forget these boys as we go forth, armect with our education and our love of peace. to meet the challenge. It is our earnest intention to attack it bravely anci never to ciouht the success of the ultimate outcome. ' .-ELLEN YOUNG. Page Twenty-four Seaaice page DONALD DAMMERT DONALD BLACKBURN GEORGE Swmifono J EFF BROWNING Four members of time Senior Class of '46 were called to active service and were unable to graduate with the class. We wish to pay special tribute to these boys who had to give up their senior activities and delay their education while serving their country. Our service boys are Donald Dammert, Navy: Donald Blackburn, Army: George Swinforci, Navy: and Jeff Browning. Navy. Page Twenty-five , X Glen Alu December 7, 1941 --Pearl Harhor and a world at war. Though we were in only the eighth grade when our country entered the war, we realized that ours were not to he normal years of high-school life in a world at peace. However, as the first class to graduate from Dixie in the post-war era, we do feel that there could not have been four years more full of fun and unforgettable fellowship in our numerous activities. During our first year of high school we were unorganized as a class. Our large size made it necessary for us to be divided into three home rooms which made worlcing together difficult. in our Sophomore year, we became united under our llirst president of the class, Jimmy Deister. We gave one dance after a haslcet- ball game which was our First experience in working together. The Senior Class extended us an invitation to attend the Alumni Ball, making us the first Sophomore Class to he thus honored. As Juniors, our main activity was the Junior Prom which we gave in April. With the help of our sponsors, Niiss Allgeyer and Mr. Greene, and under the leadership of our class officers. Bill Gregory, president: Ellen Young, vice-presi- dent: Donald Dammert, secretary: and Leonard Schulte, treasurer: we gave three very success- ful dances after basketball games. These along with the magazine subscriptions and pencils which we sold furnished the funds that made our Junior Prom one of the most beautiful ever to he given at Dixie. Vve chose as King and Queen, Charles Madden and Doris Hunt. The termination of the war in Europe climaxcd a very eventful Junior year. in our fourth year, we elected as our class officers Glenn Vvegener, president: Mike John- son, vice-president: Shirley Eger, secretary: Ellen Young, treasurer: and immediately plunged into the whirl of Senior activities. Our co-sponsors and friends, Mrs. Nliller and Nlrs. Price, helped us to start cluhs which we feel contribute much to the extra-curricular life of Dixie. We chose Bolo Voslcuhl and Helen Ross to he Mr. and Miss Dixie IX, and in November we gave the annual Alumni Ball. Later in the year we chose the Annual Staff with Betty Teipel, editor. We gave four dances after games. a slcating party, and a Moonlight hoat ride in the spring. We also sold ads for the Annual and experienced a new unity in working together on these projects. The class play Girl Shy which was given in May was very successful. Now we are fast approaching the end of four wonderful years of high school. We are eager for the new experiences which lay hefore us and ready for the future. But, as we prepare for Baccallaureate. Class night. and Gradua- tion. we find ourselves thinking about the friends We have made: and remembering, as we will again and again in the future, the truly unforgettable experiences we have shared here at Dixie. -MARTHA BRADLEY. Painted scenes depicting Frenctm pastry simops, imat simops and wine stmops covered time waits. Time music of Cecil Youngs orcimestra added an encimantment to time already beautiful room. A large part of time Prom's success we owe to Miss Kilgore, time art director, and to Miss Aiigeyer and Mr. Greene, time class sponsors. Miss Kilgore patiently directed us ttmrougtm many imappy imours of decorating. Cimaries Madden and Doris Ann Hunt ine- came icing and queen for a nigtmt. Vvitim time assistance of Miss Kilgore, and under time direction of our Spon- sors, Nirs. Miller and Nirs. Price, we decorated time gymnasium to represent imarvest time.
