CAPTAIN NEIL H. FISHER
Captain Fisher Was born in Balfour, North Dakota on 28 January 1917. He graduated from Fargo
High School, Fargo, North Dakota and attended North Dakota State College prior to graduation from
the U. S. Naval Academy-Class of 1940. He has attended post graduate school at the U. S. Naval
Academy and at John Hopkins University, Baltimore Maryland.
Captain Fisher has served in the cruisers CINCINATTI and BALTIMORE, the Guided Missile Ship
NORTON SOUND, and the destroyers BRUSH and LOFBERG. He has also served as Gunnery Train-
ing Officer on the staff of Commander, Training Command, Pacific and as Commander Destroyer Divi-
sion SEVENTY TWO. He Was Program Director for Terrier and Tarter Guided Missiles' in the
Bureau of Ordinance. Captain Fisher reported to DIXIE from the Office of Naval Operations Where
he was Head of Surface Programs Branch, Undersea Warfare Development Division.
Some of the campaign and service medals Worn by Captain Fisher are the American Defense Medal,
Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the Philip-
pine Liberation Medal. I

CAPTAIN BRYAN H. SMITH
Captain Smith graduated from the University of California NROTC and Was commissioned as Ensign
in 1936. During WW II he commanded minesvveepers and minesvveeper divisions in the Pacific. Since
then he has commanded the Destroyer VOGEL-GESANG and Destroyer Division ONE FORTY-TWO,
both in the Atlantic Fleet. He has twice served in the office of the Chief of Naval Operations and
commanded the Mine Warfare Evaluation Detachment at Key West, Florida. He has served as Chief
of Staff and Aide to Commander, Carrier Division EIGHTEEN, and as Chief of ,Staff and Aide to Com-
mander, Mine Force, U. S. Atlantic Fleet. During his tenure of command DIXIE has been flagship for
Commander, Cruisers and Destroyers, Pacific and currently for Commander, Destroyer Flotilla One.

Captain Smith Was awarded the Bronze Star Medal With Combat "V" and a gold Star in lieu of a
se ond Bronze Star Medal fOr m111eSWGSD1ng operations 1n the Pacific. He also Wears the Naval Reserve
Medal WW ll V1Cf0TY Medal NHVY occupation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

COMMANDER ROLLIN F. HEASSIER
Commander Rollin F. Heassler, present Executive Officer of the Dixie, has served the U. S. Navy
honorably for the past 28 years. Prior to entering the Navy he attended Eastern Oregon College.
He later received his commission as Ensign in 1943 while serving aboard the USS Cleveland.
Just prior to World War H he served aboard the USS Buck, operating in the North Atlantic escort-
ing convoys to Britain. He has served aboard many other ships, among which are the USS Louisville,
USS Ontario, USS Guadelupe, as Executive Officer, and USS Gurke, as Engineering Officer and subse-
quently as Executive Officer.
His Naval career has taken him to various shore assignments which include the Fleet Training
Center at Pearl Harbor where he was the Senior Atomic Defense and Damage Control instructor and
later as Oiiicer-in-Charge of the Fire-Fighting School. He was the Training Supervisor between ships
and Underway Training Element during his tour at the Fleet Training Group, San Diego. He has
served with MSTS WESTPAC as Deputy Maintenance and Repair Officer. This assignment called for
close associations and liaison with private industry in dealing with bids for repair to MSTS ships.
P1'10f 'CO-1115 DTCSCHY HSS1g11mC11'C, Commander Heassler was the Senior Ship Superintendent at the New
York Shipyard for the construction of the USS Constellation, the lirst missile carrier, which merited
many complimentary remarks from his superiors.
Commander Heassler has been awarded the Navy Unit Commendation as a member of the crew of
the USS Cleveland and Cruiser Division Twelve for action against the enemy combatant ships off
Empress Augusta Bay. .Acmongi his campaign and service medals are American Defence, European
