Pg. 96 Faculty Pg. 100 Clubs And Organizations Pg. 124 Sports___________Pg 150 Business Pg. 172 Closing Pg. 188 (----------------------------------------------- Dedication We dedicate this yearbook to you, Mr. Coelz, for all the help you've given us-not only this year but for all the years we spent at Division. When we didn't have an advisor for student government, you devoted all your time to help us through the year. When we only had one class advisor, you assisted Mr. Haggerty, without reservation. You've been there to give us the best Homecoming. You've always been there when we needed to talk with someone. You've showed us many paths of life and have taught us that without happiness and friends we are not complete persons. The undying patience and dedica- tion that you've shown us, will always be remembered and treasured. We love and will miss you deeply. Thank you for all the time and effort you have given us. V_______________________________________________ ----------------- Dedication We will have had many teachers when we leave. The teachers that we will remember will have been the ones who have reached out and touched us with their compassion and love. You've always been there to comfort us and to give us a new insight with knowledge that you've acquired. You have given us your time and your guidance, but mostly you've given yourself. For everything you've done for us, we the Class of 1984 dedicate our year- book to you, Mr. Tracker with love, gratitude and admiration. V__________________s 6 In these times no have shared the go d and had the joys and fears the laughter and the tears. rr We hope after we are gone these memories will still remain in our hearts and in our minds. IS 17 18 19 20 21 We became co-editors, co-captains and co-presidents. m 30 Even though all we will have left are memories they will be good ones. 32 SPECIAL THANKS TO.. . . . Mr. Haggerty, who we have had on our side for many years. He has stayed by us through thick and thin and has always been a very good friend to all. He made our junior year a success and has now made our senior year one to remember. With gratitude and love we appreciate all your time and effort spent with us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. .. . Mr. Cestaro, for always being there to help the class whenever we were down. He is a man of many talents and always has time for anyone in need. He devotes any extra time he has to us and even makes room for major projects such as Homecoming, and the Honor Society every year, which would be meaningless without him. The class will miss you Mr. C, very much. We love you. .. . Mrs. Pfeffer, who has spent countless hours each year organizing musical events for the en- joyment of everyone. You have shared with us your many experiences and so that we may en- ter the world outside the school with a little bit of wisdom and humor. In appreciation of all your devotion and love, that has made our schools years memorable. We thank you. . . . Mr. Festante. Besides having a wife, a baby, and a career, he always finds time to dedicate himself to this yearbook. We have stayed late at school many times. Although it was never fun, he always seem to make us smile. He was there from beginning to end smoothing out the rough edges. We know not of any faults of his warm qualities because he is always ready to help. Without the encouargement and determination of this man, this year- book would not be. We would like to give you a very special thanks for all of your time put into the making of the Perspec- tum. We will remember you always whenever looking through our yearbooks and life for you have made a great impression on our souls. Words cannot express the love we feel towards you, but a simple 'thank you' and 'we'll miss you' will have to suffice. 35 Paul Adda mo John Ahern Cheryl Abraham Frank Acevedo Regina Ackley Fran Alexander Robert Alvino John Andrews Rose Ann Armellino Stephanie Astore Jerrt Ayral James Babino Marguerite Baker Aptaker Michelle Linda Bange Paul Barrett John Todd Bauerschmidt Brian Behrens Lawrence Bell Gail Bellisio Gary Bell f P Daniel Blafford Robert Bhney James Boisjolie Denine Bongiardino Scott Berman Peter Bernard Dennis Bianco Stephanie Bone font Caron Brady Paul Braithwaite Michael Branigan Kenneth Brower Kenneth Brown Christine Bruning James Buckley Diane Buerkle Nancy Burke Keith Burtt Kimberly CappaJona Christine Carbone Timothy Carr Pamela Carroll Theresa Carroll Michelle Castro Theresa Cerasi Michael Ciaccio Donna Clohessy Claudia Connor Michael Corbett John Corpac Jeanann Cramer James Cyran Leonard Czarnecki Mario Damini Ronald Cor rente Deanna Costanzo Frank D'Andrea Kim DankenBrink Steve De La Rosa Jean nine De Sena Diane Decyk Leighann Delie Bovi Michael Dennett Timothy Derby Maryann DiGiacomo Ralph Diers Andrew DiMonda Joesph DiSalvo Lori Dochnijk Timothy Dodd Lorena Drjgon John Drost Jeffery Dunlop Lisa Dwyer Robin Elicky Margaret Ernst Anthony Fihndro Linda Finamore Elizabeth Finck Tracey Ever Darlene Faello Chris Faicco Denise Fariello Charles Felton Daniel Freeman Scott Furrer Stephanie Galanis Michelle Galvam Paul Ganci Laura Gansrow Christina Garbacki Michael Gardner Eileen Gaspari Raymond Gaspari Gina Gassmann John Gino Christine Closer Christopher Goedtel Angelo Go tell Potti Gersheck Vincent Giocolone Scott Gillis Gerord Gino Kathleen Hancock Gregory Hansen Michelle Howell Deborah Huber Jane Huggard Susan Hipp Thomas Heslin Ann Marie Hildenbrandt Dawn Hoffman Wyrla Horran Mjureen Jensen Kevin Joos Danielle Kaegi Matthew Hughes Sean Hughes Keith Hurd Diane Ignizio Jennifer Izzo Kelly KM Diane Kallas Gus Kaparos Philip Kelly Lori Kenney Glen Kiefer Regina Kieran John King John Koster John Kowall Kristine Kranz Patricia Kleber Joe Klinger Craig Koch Donna Koch Susan Kollmann Robert Kraus John Kurtzke Scott Lambert Joesph Lanzisera Jay Lasker Richard Laurita Robert Liberte!I i Dawn Limerick Christina Lind William Law Robert Lesmeister Michael Leonard Deborah Lesmeister Jean Lewis Sean Lipien Frederick Lohr Robert Lombardi Margaret Lynch James Maguffin Scott Malings Donald McCrea Andrew McCue Joy McDonald Marshall Peter Man ton Edward Marone Scott Denise Maurer Keith McCarthy Lisa McFarland Kevin McGregor Brian McGuiness Steven McGuiness Daniel McIntosh Diane McKenna Sharon McKenna Thomas MeLehose William McManus Laura McMinn Kevin McNerney Frances Milhaven Robert Miller Wendy Miller Rosa Montalhano Robert Mont will Susan Morace Wendy Mock Glen Mittel James Mills Nicholas Minnuno Jeffrey Mollineax Steven Napolitano Frank Nash Dorothy Oaks Patrice Moreback Kenneth Mullen Amy Muller Tammy Murphy Barbara Napolitano Kevin O'Rourke Kathie O'Toole Paladino Janice Ocasio Kelly-Ann O'Connell David Oringer Daniel O'Rourke Janine O'Rourke Joanne Palazzo Gregory Palmer Caroline Paone Thomas Patterson Lucy Peccarillo Diane Pensky Kathleen Pfeifer Maureen Phillips Mike Picarella Denise Pickard Donna Pilch Brian Plakstis Edward Portoghese Barbara Prainito Keith Prunty Walter Reese John Reid Maria Rella Chris Racz Barbie Ratner Jeffery Randall Michael Randall Kathleen Reddy Richard Robinson Anne Rodriquez Michael Romano Keith Robinson Michael Robinson Michelle Robertson Therese Rhatigan Veronica Rizzo Michael C. The book, 1984 , was to predict the future. If we could predict the future, how wonderful it would be, but unfortunately, we cannot. You must, therefore, make the most of the future. You must have determination and stamina to meet the challenges after high school because there will be many. Whether you go on to college, the military, or occupational pursuits, there will be challenges every day of your life. I hope that we, in the Levittown school system, have provided you with the basic knowledge, and skills, you will need to meet these challenges as you pursue your career goals in life. On behalf of the Levittown School District, administrators and teachers, I wish to congratulate you at this time and hope that you will look back in fond memory of your years in the Levittown school system and be appreciative of all the opportunities you were afforded. Good luck to you in the future. Sincerely, Renaldo Calabrese Principal Friends are like melons. Shall I tell good, you must a hundred try. you why? To find one -Claude Mermet The 1983-84 merger of our two high schools has been suc- cessful largely because it is the nature of young adults, opti- mists all, to look forward to their futures and get on with living. Having little concern for the past, but great enthusi- asm for the future, two student bodies came together. As our student body grew to 1600, new friendships were developed and tried. Mutual efforts prospered, building trust and com- radeship. Little did George Orwell know that 1984, after all, would prove to be just fine. Sincerely, Ronald Zoia Assistant Principal Knowledge is the torch that lights the path of life, if but only one step at a time. It is my only hope that all your years of learning in Levittown, as well as the many other places that have been a part of your life, have provided you with the materials that will always enable you to have a torch to light your way. Best wishes for success in all that you undertake in the big world that now unfolds before you. Sincerely, Robert J. Enderle Assistant Principal 102 TO THE GRADUATING CLASS OF 1984: A distinguishing feature of the Graduating Class of 1984 is one which can never be duplicat- ed by any future graduating class. It stems from the merger of Levittown Memorial High School and Division Avenue High School beginning in September of 1983. Your class can be the only class that is the FIRST merged graduating class. Although this is a form of distinction in itself, it is not the merger which was important but the way that you handled the merger which has be- come an everlasting tribute to your good sense, judgement and willingness to make all the neces- sary adjustments for the good of all. New friendships have been made, new rela- tionships have been established, and old rivalries have been forgotten. The students from both schools quickly adjusted and became one. You supported your class officers with enthusiasm and made your presence felt in every area of the school. The Seniors who participated in Student Government, in Athletics, in all Extra-Curricular activities served as role models for the younger classes. Your teachers have nothing but compli- ments to say about this Graduating Class. Personally, I have also made new friendships and have had the pleasure of working with as fine a group of young people as anyone would ever want to meet. wish you all the success in the world, hope that you will keep in touch with us, and come back and visit often. May God bless you and keep you all well. Sincerely, Robert T. Only those really involved can understand all the hard work and devotion needed to produce a great yearbook. Thanks to all the Editors, Assistants and especially to Mr. Fes tante and to Mr. Zacker, it has finally been accomplished. Even though sometimes there were days that our pa- tience wore thin, we shared many secrets and joys together, and we laughed and even cryed together. But most of all we have formed an everlasting friendship that will never die as long as we have Perspectum '84 to remind us. We hope that this year's Perspectum will capture many of the memories that you can carry with you a lifetime, both the bad and the good. Thank you. Class of '84, for being the subject of, we hope, the best yearbook ever. With a class like ours how could it be anything but the best. We know it has been difficult for everyone to become as one but we proved it could be done. With Love and Thanks, Angela and Amanda ASST. Our staff worked hard under the supervision of our advisor, Mr. Cestaro, He made his presence known not only through supervi- sion but also through his never- ending patience and guidance in assisting us. There was much fun involved working on the paper with the Flame staff. We strived to publish an eight page edition each month. Articles were written by students of all grades. The newspaper is published at a professional printing shop where the Flame layout staff puts their talents to use. Our entire staff consisted of twentysix members, all of whom worked hard. We encouraged ev- eryone to join our efforts as we tried to make each issue of the Flame better than the last. Mr. Goelz, Master of Ceremonies, after a short speech crowned the 1983 Homecoming Queen, Kerrimae Hall. Sue Schiffer was chosen as first runner-up. All in all Homecoming Day was an exciting event. The merger of Division and Me- morial made this day greater than ever before. 139 Out 146 We at Division Avenue are very proud of our athletes. Each and every one of our ath- letes is a positive reflection on the school, community and their family. In our pursuit of excellence on the athle- tic fields, our priorities are first and foremost in the development of our athletes as decent, caring young people, and then athletic ex- cellence. We are very pleased that 40% of our stu- dent population is active in our athletic pro- gram. Our achievements over the years have illustrated our great success and accomplish- ments in the attaining of County Champi- ons and many conference titles in Football, Lacrosse, Softball, Volleyball, Wrestling, and Tennis. Many of our athletes have gone on to colleges and universities and achieved suc- cess, not only in athletics but in the voca- tions of their choice. Reflecting back over the years, the major- ity of our graduating athletes have been Winners , not only as athletes, but as con- tributing adults to our community and soci- ety. -Ms. Sally C. Brown The 1983 Blue Dragons Varsity finished the year as Co-Champions of Conference B with a record of 6-2. They finished the season strong by outscoring their last four opponents 93-13 and a impressive 6-0 victory over Plainedge to become the Co-champs. The defense was strong all year, led by linebackers Walter Reese, Doug Jordan and Mike Romano, defen- sive backs Ralph Vestuti, Chris Cassidy, and safety Frank Viviano. The line was tough against the run, NEVER allowing the opposition more than 90 yards rushing. The line was led hy tackles Ed Smithwick and Pete Bernard, noseguard Ken Brower, defensive ends Ray Weingart and Bob Miller. First Row- T. Bauerschmidt, R. Alvino, J. Maguffin, E. Portoghese, J. Weinshall, L. Frank, G. Gassmann, Coach: Shula Feuer with South Side at the end of the regular season which forced them to play a tie- breaker match for League Champions. Southside won the exciting tiebreaker by close scores of 15-13, 15-17 and 16-14. As runner-up in a strong league, they were seeded 9th in the County Playoffs. This year's playoff format was new and experimental in that 16 teams entered into four pools of round robin play. The team had to play nine games in two days and the two teams with the best record in each pool went into the quarter finals. Our team played well in pool play, but was defeated by Uniondale and Port Washington. The team should be commended on its outstanding season. Everyone worked hard throughout the year and made major im- provements. Three of our team members did receive honors. Susan Schiffer was an All Division player. Sue Connelly and Kathleen Wilson were selected for All Division, All Conference and All League. Congratulations to the team for its season and for our indi- vidual honors. Sitting-D. Waldman, D. The three single players per- formed admirably down the stretch! They were Tracey Cook, Donna Lynch and Sondra Schreiner. The 1st doubles team of Seniors Dorothy Oakes and Kris Kranz performed nicely too. The team has everyone back next year except for the two seniors men- tioned above. Ann Marie Petkus, Nancy Kessler, JeanMarie Kyle, Pam Valerie, Laura Scheidle, Jenny Santerlay, Jenny O'Toole, Kathy Meyer and Debbie Wald man all should be greatly im- proved with the experience gained this year. 1S7 SOCCER Division Avenue has one of the youngest teams compet- ing in our league this year, consisting of mostly Soph mores and a few Juniors and Seniors. We moved up a conference this year to play against tougher competition. We competed against such schools as Hicksville, Southside (Co-county Champs), Berner, Hempstead, Cold Spring Harbor and Herricks. The team was lead by Co-captains and high scorers Greg Eatz and John Reid. Our defensive was dominated by All- Division player John Czachor. Coach Dunne commends his players for their toughness and aggressiveness. We are looking forward to a better season next year with the help of Wisdom Lane's team moving up to the high school level. 158 159 SOCCER In their first year of existence the Girl's Varsity Soccer team made the Nassau County Play-offs. The Division girls finished in second place. The team was led by tough defense of Chris Fernstrom, Noreen O'Shea, Kim Montwill and Denise Locker. The of- fense was powered by Nicole Albert ini, Terri DeSantis, Terri Gillis, and Vicki Braithwaite. Special awards went to the following girls; All Conference: Colleen Limer- ick- Goalie, Dawn Limerick- Fullback, Carol Czachor- Halfback, All League: Lisa Dwyer- Halfback, All County: Cathy Jugan- Center Forward. They opened the season with victories over New Hyde Park, Calhoun and the savage beating of cross-town rival Mac Arthur 50-14, only giving up one loss to Bethpage 31-27. The team consists of strong winners in every weight class. The powerful drive behind our Dragons are the coaches Mr. Patrovich and Mr. Cook, a graduate from Division Avenue. The team was entered, early in the season, in the Herricks tournament where they placed 2nd. In the Levittown tournament they placed 3rd, as they did in the East Meadow tournament. All together they crowned five Champions and four place winners between 2nd and 4th place. Our team ended the season ranking 6th in Nassau County. Kneeling- L. Michilizzi, H. Brown, J. Gurr, D. Not only did the team record improve tremendously over past seasons but the Dragons had a lot of underclassmen who played a major role in the team's success. What makes this season so significant is the fact that the team played in one of the toughest leagues on Long Island and our team still managed to have one of its best seasons to date. One of the biggest moments was Division's 5point victory over Southside, a team that is always one of the premier teams in Nassau County. Paul Barrett, who was an All County player in his Junior year, had another superlative season. Mike Corbett, who sup- plied the inside power and Chris Faicco whose excellent de- fense and 9 point scoring average, were key factors in every game. Tom Gray did a great job coming off the bench and was a real spark to the defense. Andy Atkins and Chris Cassidy, both Juniors, Dave Del- franco and Joe Cuttone, both Sophmores, all started during the season. Juniors Ken Buchan, Pete Milligan, and Mike Quinn played key roles as substitutes and will be expected to add once again their special talents to the 1984-85 Basketball team. The Division Dragons have proved that the success of this year's team was not an accident but a result of hard work and determination. The Basketball team would like to thank all of the students for the consistent enthusiastic support all season long. INATE BASKETBALL The Division Avenue Girl's Varsity Basketball team were tied for first place in their league with a 4-1 record. After having lost only the first game of the season the team won the next four games in a row. One of the highlights was their victory over Hempstead, last year's County and State Champs. The team averaged 50 points a game and held their opponents to under 40 points. Their leading scorer and Captain was Lisa Dwyer who averaged 25 points per game. The entire team showed great improvement throughout the season, each player contributing to the team's victories. As seniors Stephanie Astore, Maureen Phillips, Dawn Limerick and Lisa Dwyer leave this year, we hope that those players left will set the pace for an exciting and successful season next year. vnuvjiM ) L v- |i±n BOWLING The Division Avenue Bowling team has once again completed an outstanding season. The Varsity team was led by Ken Brown, Paul Braithwaite, Kristine Kranz, Ron Ferstrom, Ernie Dyrle and Tim O'Toole. Under the leader- ship of Mr. Pahel, the team was suc- cessful in beating opposing teams into submission. Even when not suc- cessful Mr. Pahel was always sup- portive toward the team. As we say good-bye to seniors Kristine Kranz, Kenny Brown, Greg Palmer and Paul Brathwaite we look to next year when the Division Ave- nue Bowling team can once again display their outstanding qualities. EVERLASTING FRIENDSHIP The time went to fast, it's now the end of our high school days. My friends and I must part and go our separate ways. But how do you say good-bye to friends who are so dear? We've watched each other grow and mature throughout the years. I love you all too much to tell, I know it's too late to confess. But words don't seem to communicate the feelings I must express. You've showed me many paths of life, you've helped me to be free. Without your loving care and advice, I would not be a complete me. I must be selfish to want you to stay but I cannot say good-bye. I can't adjust to the fact that you're leaving no matter how I try. I pray one day you get to meet many people before your life ends, Eiecause others should have the chance to have you as one of their friends.
