Division Ave. High School Levittown, New York Aetfovoiifes IP§ 3 DEDICATION The class of ’83 dedicates its yearbook to Mr. Richard Festante. We are very grateful for all his assistance and hard work through- out the years. Mr. Festante gives freely of his time and talent as yearbook advi- sor. In the past he has chaperoned dances for us, and this year he has taken on the added responsibility of being an advisor to the senior class. Mr. Festante has always been there when our class needed help. He had done more than his share of the work. The class of ’83 wish- es Mr. Festante all the success and happiness that he has brought to us. 4 Special Thanks The class would also like to give a special thanks to Mr. Fred Goelz. He took over this year when our class was without an advisor. He has helped to make our senior year a good one. We are especially grateful for his work on homecoming and in the student government. Everyone will miss Mr. Goelz’s help and friendship. A special thanks goes to Ms. Joanna Wagoner, our class advisor for tenth and eleventh grade. Her dedication made these years good ones for us. With Ms. Wagoner’s help the class held dances, a Great Adventure trip, a Junior skitrip, and a very success- ful Junior prom. We miss her spirit and hard work. The class wishes Ms. Wagoner the best of everyth- ing. Oops, Your Back! s A little thanks to Mr. Miller who almost made dedication this year. We love you anyway. Good luck next year, don’t give up! Your triumphs, achievements, and successes are portrayed throughout this yearbook and recorded history says it all. You are able because you believe you are able. Each struggle, each defeat sharpened your skills, strengths, endurance, abilities and confidence to make you better. Because you are making your lives significent to yourselves, you are becoming significant to others; and because you are making your lives significant to others, you are becoming significant to yourselves. You are achieving that delicate balance between individual Derogative and the welfare of society. Life during your high school years has not been easy and you can count on life to become even more complex and tangled than it is now. Yesterday is gone and tomorrow is so far out of sight that it is not possible to know the educational necessities that will arise in less than a decade. However, I know that you will succeed in life because you will look up. not down; look foward, not back; look out. not in. You have been greater than anything that has ever happened to me. You are greater than anything that can ever happen to you. Thank you. and best ever. Principal Dear Graduates: There is a time for Joy: a tine for tears” is an appropriate phrase when June 26th rolls aroudd and suddenly the realization that Graduation is at hand. It is a time for joy in celebrating the successful completion of four years of high school. It is a time for tears in saying Goodbye to all those friends you have made in the student body and with the faculty.Although you plan to remain as close as ever, you realize that distance creates problems. It is a time of reflection when you remember the Great Adventures trips, the field trips. Integrated Studies, the candy and magazine fund raisers, the dances, especially the ring dance, the junior prom, the senior ski trips, the Variety Shows and the Senior Prom. It is a time of anticipation, wondering what college will be like, living away from home, starting a new Job or whatever else the future holds. As one who has shared many of these experiences with you. I, too, feel a sense of saddness and Joy. I will miss you but I know that you will be successful. In many matches, the doubles teams of Mary Ellen Burgos, Donna Lynch, Dorothy Oakes, Colleen Crowell, Sondra Schreiner, Kristine Kranz, Anna Mortillaro, Satomi Yamin- ita, Elyse Meistle and Sue Dickes proved to be the difference. Congratulations to the tennis team for a job well done and to coach Mr. Hank Rufa for bringing this team of talented girls to their peak! Special congratulations to Karen Gerlack, Mary EllenBurgos, and Dorthy Oakes for making the Nassau County Playoffs. Linda Portilla Varsity The Varsity Volleyball team finished the 1982 sea- son in thier league with a record of ten wins and two losses. The wins came from teams such as Island Trees, Elmont, Roosevelt, Plain view JFK, and Sea- ford. The two loses were both against the only unde- feated team in their league, Lynbrook. Despite the two loses the Dragons were in the playoffs. In the first round of the playoffs the Dragons picked up an easy victory over Baldwin. The second round of the playoffs led the Dragons to meet Lynbrook. Unfortunately Lynbrook beat the Dragons and that ended their season. The Varsity Volleyball team consisted of Seniors, Debbie Cooper, Maureen Gallagher, Cindy Hickman, Andrea Porrazzo, Patricia Reisig, and Jeanine Rothar. Juniors: Sandy Camilleri, Maureen Jenson, Sue Schiffer. Sophomores: Sue Connelly, and Kathy Wil- son. Patricia Reisig and Jeanine Rothar both made All County. Patricia Reisig was chosen to be on the Nas- sau County All Star team.
