He was always willing to help us out, in good times and in bad. We knew we could count on him for anything. He also put in extra time and energy to better our class. So Mr. Graham, we want to say Thanks” for your outstanding interest in the class of 1980. The class of 1980 offers Special Thanks to Dr. Sullivan. He always supported us when we needed support. We still think of him as someone special even now that he is not here (at Division) to share the joy of our senior year. 15 Dedication 16 Mr. GoeJz Mr. Cestro To guide, to explain, to correct, ... These are the things teachers must do. To lighten our fears, to share themselves, to care deeply There are the things these men do By their example ... by their sharing of themselves, ... They taught us not to be afraid to be human For this we dedicate our book to you. I only regret that the effort was not complete by everyone. We had a small staff and thank heaven they were a willing staff. There were times, as some of you may know, where problems arose. We regretted and apologized for them. I really wished though, that the class, that does have a great deal of potential, had united a little more, so this would really be the Class of 80 Yearbook. Those who dedicated themselves to the completion of the Book, Marie, Mr. Festante, Peggy, Karen, Mary-Beth, Kathy, Debby, I sincerely thank you. 67 Dear Graduates of 1980, Dr. Fusco Principal Your graduation will symbolize a special and unique event for you. It is the time when your parents and society expect you to assume greater responsibility for your own life and to realize that you are the primary source of what happens in your life. Your life has been fuller and richer by the efforts and sacrifices of your parents and countless members of society. It is your obliga- tion to continue to grow in knowledge, develop your talents, and use your skills not only for your own benefit, but for the benefit of society as well. The great challenge is to achieve the delicate balance between individual pre- rogative and the welfare of society. Do not be reluctant to present your ideas or to follow a desired course of action, but be sure that your thoughts and acts are based on knowledge, intergrity, and sensitivity to the rights of others. Neither be afraid to speak the truth whether it is popular or not. Yet, at the same time learn to live with restraints and ambiguites without becoming paralyzed. There will always be limits and uncertainties present in your life. You can accomplish your goals if you don’t set limits on your efforts. To ensure success be enthusiastic, strive for excellence, and render more and better service than is expected of you. Don’t wait for success to find you ... you find success! The faculty, administration, and your fellow students join me in extending best wishes for a life that is lived successfully, productively, and abundantly. Most sincerely, Frank Fusco, Ed.D. The class of seniors decorated the bulletin board and the walls with Spanish posters and with Spanish Christmas cards that were made by all the students in Mrs. Eisenberg's Spanish classes. The fourth year class prepared and cooked the food, baked the cakes, and made the desserts. They even had a Gingerbread house. The members of the class all dressed in authenic Spanish costumes. For entertainment two students played the guitar and everyone sang Christmas songs in Spanish. Mrs. Burton did a Flaminco dance. Everyone had a very good time. 92 Ilvan Arroyo and Karen Vella two of Mrs. Eisenberg's fourth year students. A couple of students lending the Fiesta some musical entertain- ment. Overcoming the effects of a season lost the year before they came on to finish second place in our division. A team that was short on experience but long on hard work and desire, they fought back to overcome first half deficits in many games, to emerge victorious. Not only did their athletic ability make us proud, but on and off the field showed us the True meaning of sportsmanship and competitive spirit. We are looking forward to a young, strong, and determined team next year with the hopes of surpassing our second place finish of this season. The team won seven matches and recorded key wins over Plainview and Levittown Memorial. The “Fabulous Fourteen” proved to be in a class by itself as it showed a great deal of ability and determination in establishing a school record. The key performers were Faith Post, who won the “Red Letter” and Kathy Leyden. Both girls were chosen to the Conference III all star team. The three doubles teams of Laura Roccotagliata and Lauren Carroll, Barbara Nizich and Regina Corbett, and Faith Post and Terry Gallagher proved to be almost unstoppable as they recorded a combined record of 26 and 5. With ten of the Fourteen players returning next year, Division has an excellent chance of enjoying another super season. Varsity Wrestling Graduating Seniors Mike Miller Chris Moore Chris Lapera Scott Peacock 128 The Wrestling team finished with a 10 and 5 record overall and a 5 and 2 record in the league to complete it’s finest season in years.
