. A class, no matter what grade or size, needs direction — someone to guide them toward their goals. Our yearbook is dedicated to the man who gave us that guidance. For in the almost three years he was our advisor, Mr. Emeritz devoted a lot of his time and energy to our class. He gave us a lot more of himself, his character, thoughts, ideals, than we expected or at times de- served. We were very sad to see him leave during the beginning of our senior year, because he had become more than just an advisor, he had become our friend. A friend we will always remember. We hope that this gesture expresses our thanks and sincere appreciation for all you have done for us and with us. Love always, The Class of 1976 Since there is always more than one special person to a graduating class, we, the class of 76”, have chosen two, our class advisors — past and present. t m m Although he was our class advisor for only a short seven months, Mr. Festante helped guide us through oui most important year. He took on both the problems and pleasures of our senior year with sincere willingness, interest and unselfishness. We, the Class of ‘‘76” ap- preciate Mr. Festante for accepting the job and for the time he gave to us. We are also glad to have had the opportunity to call this man our friend. As an expression of our thanks ant appreciation, we, the Class of 1976, dedicate our yearbook to you, Mr. Festante. SCHOOLS and CHUBCU1S8- THE CHANGING NATION Ownership of land had been just a dream to most of the colonists from feudal England. With the great expanse of cheap land opening up in the West, the dream became reality. The Louisiana Purchase of 1803 opened the first sizable frontier in the Midwest, but the nation was not ready for it yet. It took a growing market in the East, where land was getting high-priced and scarce, and develop- ment of good transportation, to really start the frontier movement. The Gold Rush caused hordes of settlers to take various routes to the Pacific Coast and its yellow riches. The railroads brought farmers and ranchers, along with the miners, who decided to stop all along the routes and build their homes. Railroads were instrumental in the quick civilization of the West, bringing people in num- bers so large that the resentful Indians were finally pushed back into unwanted and infertile areas. America became a haven for immigrants from every na- tion as freedom beckoned them to the teeming cities of the East, the plains, and the rich west coast farmlands. Sick of the Civil War and with their own lands divided up and lost, many Southerners set out to begin again in the virgin territories. Westering soon became the national tradition as North and South moved together toward a new life. Americanism was advanced socially, by the hard-working, bare-fisted types who settled the frontiers. —4 faaiMl The «Ide. form an art i «lie • h I a 1 4 d • • 11 n , eloae t y w o v • a with Oat and round rtsd . During our years at Division we’ve gone through many expected, and some unexpected, changes. Year after year we accepted more challenging responsibilities. As a result, we’ve all changed ourselves for the better. 7 Change is inevitable in a progressive country, change is constant. Benjamin Disraeli 0 God, give us serenity to accept what cannot be changed, courage to change what should be changed, and wisdom to distinguish the one from the other. Friends today won’t be our friends tomorrow. Our lives change so drastically in such a short period of time. Most of us have been in this school for six years. In six more years it will be just a memory and six after that a distant one. That’s the way life is. It can’t be avoided. Change can’t be prevented, it is part of living. We live for the moment and that’s good. It is better not to be constantly aware that your life, the way you know it, will not be that way in ten years. It is better not to realize that our friendships, hopes, dreams, and goals will be different in ten years. It is hard to comprehend and even harder to accept. For now let us enjoy our friends, tomorrow it might be too late. Alan Schwartz Why? Why do we change? Fate I guess. From snowpants to bluejeans. We change. From kindergarten to high school. We change From worse to better, or better to worse, We change. Like it or not, We Change. Virginia McGowan faculty Dear Graduates: The Graduating Class of 1976 is a true representative of our nation, our community, and our school. The members of this class have exhibited during their stay at this school a spirit of sensitivity to the feelings of others. On the athletic field, on the stage and in the classrooms, this class has given its all and has far surpassed everyone’s expectations. The legacy they leave is not only a continuation of the great traditions of the past but also a contribution of change and modification of existing social activities. In the spirit of the Bi- centennial year, members of the senior class visited Valley Forge, Washington, Philadelphia and many other historic land- marks. Their revamping of the Senior Carnival, and the re- institution of an active student government, the Senior Variety Show, the Prom and the Post-Prom party are activities which will be long remembered and cherished by the members of this class. Although their senior year got off to a rather interesting start, I am pleased to see that the seniors rose to the occasion, met their responsibilities, made significant contributions to our school and blazed new trails for others to follow. As they leave Division Avenue High School, they will always be remembered by the administration, the faculty and the student body as the one and only Bi-centennial Class of 1976. Over 10 booths were constructed for the event, housing ever- ything from games and a button booth to a spacewalk. It was a blast, in more ways than one. rsMhi 90 92 SENIOR FACULTY GAME SENIORS — 53 FACULTY — 48 ... upset, upset 94 % BALLOON LAUNCHING I Very rarely does one hear of a contest with- out a winner. The yearbook staff’s balloon launch was one of those rare occasions. On a unusually cold and windy October afternoon the Perspectum '76 staff launched 150 bal- loons at halftime of the football game. Unfor- tunately the winds on that particular day led the balloons to the northeast, out over the Atlantic Ocean and beyond. The balloons haven’t been heard from since. But, who knows? One day, one balloon’s card may be washed ashore in a bottle! 97 98 SKI TRIP During this years winter recess, the senior class took off on their annual ski trip. We left early monday morning. Everyone was exicited upon the arrival at the Pinegrove. Everyone was kept busy, either sking, horseback riding, snowmobiling or just having a good time partying. By far this three day winter vacation will stand out in everyone’s minds as a memory they will always cherish. If you want seconds, peel them off my dress INTERGRATED STUDIES is an experience in open education. The atmosphere is free, leaving much room for the individuals interests. Group workshops are set up on topics which are of interest to the students. There are workshops in psychology, religion, music and film making. Besides group workshops, individual projects are required. This gives the student a chance to really investigate those areas of study that interest him rather than follow the rigid, formal set up. The Integrated Studies program is an attempt to find a curriculum that is both interesting and relevant yet structured to cope with the needs of it's students. 103 Elaine Zazmar Tom Troia Mike Chiti Boneillo Debbie Gray Spitzenbergtf Lisa Boettger Peggy Pergola Frank Spano Jotni Me Allan Cheifetz Barbara Ray Pfeifer BGreiner Debbie An: Tricia Brown Faith Lazarus Nancy Elrod Toni Quattropani Peggy QIBrien Barbai fender Dean Gardiner Virginf Todaro Fred Goldstein Pat Wender Paul Giant Susan Kelly vjancy Rydlewski Debra Doren Garrick O’Brien Lori Becker Rosemat’y Schwii Debe Acevedo iress Barton Wendy Paulo i Nick Lombardo ' Sheryl iljean Carroll ithy Hunter Patrick Parsed Jill Hesdorfer Weissman Kathy McCaffery ne Pantano Barbara Wilson •'Patti McCarthy AnthonyTorre Heaney Jenif Courtney Diane Kevin Gei Patty Brown Patricia Monahan Joe Munisteri Sandy Roden Ronni Goldstein Bill Lawson Gina Corritore Cathy Mancino Larry P! DIVISION WINS LEVITTOWN TITLE This year the varsity basketball team compiled the best record of any team during the last ten years. Under Coach Krug the Blue Dragons ended the season with nine wins and nine defeats. The highlight of the season was winning the annual Levittown Christmas Tourney by defeating Macflrthur High School in the finals, 43-41. This marks the first time in history of Division Ave High School that the Blue Dragons have come out number one locally. Senior Mike Chiti made the All-League team for the second year in a row, as well as leading the team in total points and rebounds. COACH: Mr. Krug 154 By Greg Aiello Levit town— Twas the night before the night before Christmas and Divi- sion basketball coach Jim Krug was like Santa Claus without two of his reindeer. In the biggest game of Divi- sion’s young season, for the champi- o n s h i p of the Levittown Holiday Tournament. Krug was missing start- ing forwards Tony Laurendi, who was ill, and Tom Brown, who missed the bus to the game at MacArthur. Division did not play a good game, but its defense was scrappy and its stalling tactics late in the game suc- ceeded. Thus, when MacArthur’s Dave Goldberg failed to get off a last- second shot. Division defeated MacArthur 43-41. The victory was Division’s si x t h hthout a loss this season and its first Levittown Tourney championship in the 18 years it has been held. “What a Christmas present,” Krug said. Division’s defensive strategy was to c o n ta i n MacArthur’s high-scoring Kevin Butt, who was covered by Tom Watkins and who scored only six points. “I tried to stay with him all over the court and deny him the ball so he couldn’t shoot,” Watkins 6aid. Krug called Watkins’ effort a “super job.” Seth Myones of MacArthur threat- ened to fill the scoring gap left by Butt, which required another 6trong defensive performance, this one by Division’s Joe Picariello. Myone6 hit three straight jump shots in the first quarter, the last giving MacArthur a 12-8 lead. Then Krug assigned Picariello to guard Myones and the junior guard started talking like Muhammad A!i. “I told him, ‘Come on, show me some- thing, chump.’ I do that to psych n guy out,” Picariello said. Myones scored just one more basket for the rest of the game. The other key for Division was sub- stitute Brian Connors, a 6-3 center who grabbed 13 rebounds and neu- tralized MacArthur’s 6-5 Kevin Har- ding. Division held a 41-35 lead midway through the last period, but MacArth- ur scored two quick field goals to close to 41-39. That’s when the Blue Dragons went into a four-corner stall with just over three minutes to play. The Generals were forced to foul to regain possession and Division’s Scott Bennett sink two shots fbr a -13-39 lead. “It didn’t faze me,” Bennett said. “I was laughing more than any- thing else.” After last year’s 0-17 season. Divi- sion’s basketball players are down- right giddy. CLARE; 6 Grouse Lane 181 Dear Mr. Millman: Many people are involved in the production of a yearbook, but none are more important than the advisor. Without him, in this case Mr. Millman, we would not have known whether we were doing things properly, plus that all important second opinion would have been missing. Mr. Millman has guided us through the year, overseeing what we did, correcting our mistakes, letting us know something was wrong, assuring us that the world wasn’t coming to an end when we thought it was. We appreciate you for giving us so much of your time, so much of your self. Thank you Mr. Millman, from the class of 1976.
