PERSPECTUM 1973 DIVISION AVENUE HIGH SCHOOL LEVITTOWN, NEW YORK Our yearbook is dedicated to a very special member of the Class of '73. Miss Watson has been more than an advisor to our class, she has been a part of it, the most important part. We could liken our class to a brick wall. You can pile up the bricks, but without the cement to hold them together, they would soon fall apart. Miss Watson has the patience few people have, and the persistence to see us through it all as a class. Now we've made it through six memorable years. We can honestly say, without Miss Watson, there would be little to remem- ber. Perspectum '73 is for you, Miss Watson. We will never forget all the good times we've shared, and the bad times you have helped us through. Love and the Best in Your Future, Your Class of '73 So often now I can't help thinking of how fast everything can change and of the whopping surprises in store for us. One dav vour paint box is all tidy and filled with the greatest colors and your brushes are clean and things are nifty; the next dav a steam roller has mangled the whole works but you can't even wor- ry about that because the whole world is upside down and you're hanging on for dear life, If that can happen in a day or two, what will the years bring? Don't answer! Other times I try to keep thinking that maybe I've had my share of rotten sur- prises for the time being, and maybe some of the surprises coming up will just have to be good ones. May God Bless You Dear Friends of mine, there is no way in which I could address you, With more sincerity of heart than just to say God Bless You. My words could wish that all your cares would be a little lighter, And I could tell you cheerful things to make your hours brighter. My heart could wish good luck to you and happiness in planning, And I could promise you the depths of human understanding. But I am sure no other thought or message would impress you As lovingly or lastingly as asking God to bless you. And so 1 say God Bless you friends, in every good endeavor. And may His guiding grace be yours forever and forever. Joan L. Wats n 18 19 To The Class of '73 It seems that graduating classes can always be identified through a particular style or personality that is developed over the years. These characteristics are the product of a class' reaction to the many events they experience together. The class of '73 always appeared to be coolly efficient. They were always in the thick of any event they entered and tena- ciously sought and experienced a great deal of success. However, they seemed imperturable with an unusual skill at being able to avoid the spotlight. And then came February, and the Daily News, and the New York Times and NBC. Suddenly the Class of '73 and Divi- sion were brought into sharp focus. We now witness a fine group of seniors displaying pride in each other, in their school, and in their community. The cohesiveness and the spirit soon surfaced. It is indeed rare when a group rises so fittingly to an occasion. 73 is a fine group that did much for Division. We shall always remember the many athletic contests, the political convention, Marne, the Senior Variety Show and the many events that made the senior year so interesting. We are proud of you all and are most appreciative of the fact that you are stepping out into a world that promises a peace- ful future — a future which, I am sure, will be greatly influ- enced by your talent and spirit. Board of Education 22 Mr. Murray Hoffman, Dr. Timothy Smith. The Class of '73 would like to express our deep grati- tude to our Class Friend, Mr. Eugene Aiello, for all his help and encouragement over the years, and we'd just like to say, Mr. Aiello, we've missed you. 23 Ronald Kelly, Chairman English Richard Wright Celia Garb William Lotosky Theresa Wieczerzak ?6 John Affigne Linda Gokey Lynn Flatow 27 Mary Gough Raymond Wieczerzak Eugene Caldarone Social Studies Robert Bun ten David Scherer Ronald Faggioni John O'Brien Office Secretaries Philip Levy, Chairman Franklin Dennis Richard Erbacher Dolores Collins 30 Joan Watson Frederick Goelz Herbert Kaufman Julius Lieber Vivienne Swartz Science James Morriss Arthur Lewi: Stephen Tier John D'Agostino Dennis Pahel Isadore Wahl 32 SC Jonathan VanZyll de Jong Edith Stillwaggon Custodial Staff Robert Reggio, Chairman William Pavlikowski Mathematics Edward Weilhoefer Charles Sciacca Arlene Marinello Robert Rydzewski Louis DesRoches William Gross Kathleen Lyons 4 • A Richard Gray 36 Robert Simes, Chairman Business Helen Sileo, Chairman John Benedetto Helen Pogal Linda Rothenberg Priscilla Los Pearl Sarnoff Guidance Secretaries Industrial Arts Vocational Education Raymond Mierjeski Gerald Millman David Peyton, Chairman Joseph Ross 40 Language 41 Carlota Miranda Joseph Cacossa David Smedley Art Clifford Borg Alexandra Andresakes John Galaskas Janice Crozier Paul Abelew Psychologist Driver Education Mr. Peyton Mr. Ray Mr. Dennis Mr. Millman Mr. Lipsky Mr. Tarantelli Mr. Wright 43 Homemaking Jane Pacifico Muriel Huenlich Reta Drumm, Chairman Rhoda Wolff Lenore Goldis Guidance Edward Carroll, Chairman James Garvey Carmen Matina Paul Draser John Hyland Alice Weiner 45 Irene Tallon Librarian David Metz Speech Thea Karnik Librarian 46 Ernest Teichert Music Bartolomeo Ferrara, Chairman Barbara Leonard William Reynolds Shirley Novak Henry Corin 47 Physical Education Gerald Jewell, Chairman Howard Pivnick Robert Waters Health Special Education Doris Dolley Edna Diamentini Gerald Radner Peter Lampasona Camera Shy Susan Barnett Albert Bauerschmidt Glen Cowden Colleen Delaney Cheryl Drozdoff Timothy Duff John Glatz Gary Goodenough Raymond Juhren Robert Mancusi Richard Marconi Duncan McDonald William Mercado Robert Meyer Peter Mongelli Cornelius Moriaty Alexander Norton Timothy O'Connell John Robertson John Schedler Denise Singer Richard Spokony Kurt Watkins David Tetukevich 50 51 PAUL ACCARDI SUSAN ALEXANDER Paul Accardi: JV. Temperature Chasers Woodwinds Concert Band Brass 152 Caravan Orchestra Madrigals Chorus Varsity Football A Successful football season at Division Avenue has become an accepted fact. This excellently coached team compiled a 7-2 won-lost record and won the North Shore, Division III title. The combined North- South Division III title slipped through their fingers in a 12-8 loss to Memorial. The coaches and athletes are to be congratulated for their hard work and determination. Meum DIVISION BLUE DRAGONS - .. 'jM w. Cross Country This year's cross country team finished the year with a 4-1-1 record and tied for second place in league competition. Outstanding were David Sorcher and Ken Carr who were picked for the Division III Allstar Cross Country team. David Sorcher was also honored with a selection to the second team on the North Shore. As usual, the Divi- sion harriers are always a team that has to be contended with. 158 1 b9 160 161 Basketball Division's netmen, although short on victories, came out on top in regards to effort, hard work and persist- ence. The victory over Roslyn was indicative of the results of putting it all together . Although we fin- ished the season with a 2-12 record, the overall quality of the team's play showed merit. Don Oest and Dave White were the season's leading scorers and Dave was selected by his teammates for the Red Letter award. J I__ 162 Bowling In a rebuilding year Division's pin busters wound up in fourth place, with an overall record of 21-21. Three high game trophies went to Lenny Davis, Sharon Ochshorn and Paul Kenny. 164 Wrestling Team Compiling a 5-1 record, Division's matmen took second place in league competition. Division championships were won by seniors Dennis Bamman, Ben Meadows and Jack Robson. A highlight of the season was our win of the Herrick's Christmas Tournament. 165 Indoor Track Although the team did not win any of the major meets this winter, they did score well. Three new school records were established and five boys qualified for the county championship. Neil Moriarty 600 yds. 1:21.5 sec. Gary Crozier 300 yds. 36.0 sec. Seniors: Bill Foo, Neil Moriarty, Gary Crozier and James Sherich running on the 880 Relay Team set a school record at 1:41.5 seconds. Spring Track The Spring Track team has been working out and is expected to do its usual fine job. Seniors who are scoring well this year are Distance man William Carr, Sprinters Gary Dreyer and Bill Foo, Half miler Jim Sherich, Weight men Alan Leshner and Kevin Van Wagner, Quarter miler Neal Moriarty, and Hurdler George Buccigrossi. Both Bill Foo and George Bucigrossi earned Varsity Track letters all four years at Division and we expect them to do equally well at St. John's University. Neal Moriarty has developed into one of the outstanding 440 men on Long Island and will be performing for Nassau Community College. Baseball Making the playoffs has become common-place for our Varsity Baseball team. Unfortunately we were eliminated by Plainview in double eliminations. Division won the North Shore Division III title and several seniors won individual honors. Tom Cummings made All Division'' and All County . Robert Padgett was se- lected as the teams most valuable player and was awarded the Coaches Award . They ended the 1972 season with a 15 and nine record. Bolstered by the return of last year's veterans, this year's squad should emerge at or near the top again. Lacrosse The 1972 Lacrosse team wound up with a 19-1 record. They won the North Shore Division III title and went on to win the North Shore Championship. Only a very powerful East Meadow team were able to stop the Division jugger- naut in the county finals. Tom Leyden was selected for the All County , All North Shore and All League ' teams. He also was selected for the coaches award. Our 1973 team is full of confidence and should execute skillfully, and hope- fullv win another championship. L. Yost j Roden R Koenig Senior Athletic Queen 1972 P Kelly D- Thunnel B Keller L.
