We find that words often can't reveal all that we want them to. It lakes a rare person, who through their words, feelings am actions, can involve themselves in all the lives and activities of students. For this reason, we the class of '71, £ ish to dedicate our Yearbook to Miss Roskovics. She is a very special and rare person, one who will always be somewhere within us all. What are we without people? Just stop and think for one moment What if you had no communication with people? Your day would consist of no smiles, no sorrows, no hellos, and no good-byes. We’d be walking vegetables taking in information but not sharing it. This is why involvement is so important. By helping your o wn character you 're en- riching others just as well. Maureen Hickey “Perchance hee for whom this Bell tolls . . . No man is an Island, intire of it selfe; every man is a peece of the Continent, a part of the maine; if a Clod bee washed away by the Sea, Europe is the lesse, as well as if a Promontorie were, as well as if a Mannor of thy friends or of thine owne were; 7 IN SA DNESS A ND IN TRIBUTE Lt. There is usually one characteristic with which we associate a particular group. It seems that involvement and 71” went hand in hand. As we attempt to retrace the outstanding events of the past year, we cannot help but notice the con- stant pattern of senior participation in every aspect of school life at Division. Varsity Athletics, the Mongoose, LOAD, PST A, The Flame, South Pacific and the host of activities in which you played a dominant role have had a tremendous impact upon our school and community. You have actively participated with faculty and administration in recommending policy in many aspects of school affairs. You demonstrated commitment and responsibility in each undertaking in which you were involved. The student leaders of the se- nior class are complimented for their involvement through enthusiasm, diplomacy and dedication. We wish you all every success: Division will miss you. However, we feel there is a great de- gree of certainty to a future in which the class of ”71 will play a major part. 21 Assistant Principals MR. ROBERT R. GRAHAM MR. LA WRENCEJ. LASKER MR. EUGENE C. The team to put these queries to is our Cross Country Team. Under the coaching of Mr. Pivnick, this team, and all previous Cross Country teams, have been Division A venue's most consistant and tradition- al winners. Is it hard work, desire, patience, good coaching and determination that makes Cross Country a truly win- ning sport? The high- points of this season came about at the first and last games when Division came back to upset top league teams Wantagh and Westbury. The season between those games was not as good, and Division finished with a 5 and 13 record. There were many outstanding players on this squad, such as Seniors AI Brad bard. Out of this great range of emotion and thought orbits forms of devine expression. Each form in itself is its own form of involvement. Brass And Percussion Section 174 Woodwinds And Trombones Separate notes, distinct in pitch and tone combine to form melodies. Such is the way music is made and such is the way the band is conducted and organized. Each instrument and player combine to form a small part of the total effect and perform- ance of this talented group. 175 Within the music profession, ease of style is very important. Within our music department we are very fortunate to have two extremely professional and stylish teachers: Mr. Reynolds and Mrs. Novak. Aside from regular classroom duties, the above two. along with others, find time to direct the musical every year, all prepared in their spare periods and after school. Music is something that all people enjoy. Perhaps the form of music that most people are familiar with is the human voice. Maybe because of its tonal qualities, or just the idea, of people singing together makes it appeal- ing. What ever it is, the Division Avenue Chorus has that certain some- thing that makes music the joy it is. What would a foot- ball game be without the majorettes? Or what would a parade be without majorettes? Nothing much, for this group adds much of the mystique to any high school activity. Skill, ease of performance, and coordination make this function seem easy, when in reality long and hard hours are needed to perform as well as these girls do. Varsity Majorettes Jr. Varsity Majorettes Senior High Strings Senior High Winds and Percussion Every year the Senior High Orchestra is perhaps the school s busiest group. Under the ba- ton of Mr. Ferrara, this organization plays in concerts, contests. Honor Society Inductions, the annual school musical, and for the graduations. Long and hard hours of practice are put in by the department for this group, and members of the orchestra can be found in room 122 practicing their scores to perfection to make the orchestra the fine ensemble it is. 179 Besides the regular band and orchestra, the Division A venue Music Department sponsors another ensemble that is both unique and very fine, the Caravan. The purpose of this group is multi-fold. Whenever this department is in need of any funds, this band holds dances for adults featuring many songs from yes- teryear, and many contempory cuts. All the students in the school, and especial- ly the ones in the Music Dept, would like to express their thanks to Mr. Teichert for the time he puts in with this group, and we wish him and the Cara- van much success in the future. IF ONE COULD HAVE THE INSIGHT TO SEPERATE Left: Jeanne Donnenberg rehearses the pari of Bloody Mary. Sharing this part was Senior Debbie Schnapf. Right: Playing one set of the leading role is Mike Rosenberg and K at hie Sullivan. Alternating with Kathie and Mike were Sue Duggan and John Wetzel. THE ACT FROM THE REALITY OF LIFE HE COULD FIND HIMSELF Once again the Division A venue Music Department is putting on a hit musical from the old and dear era of Broadway. The show being put on this year is Rog- ers and Hammerstein's South Pacific . Partaking in the effort to make this production a truly fine and professional show, are members of the orchestra who supply the music, art students who supply the scenery, and finally the ac- tors and stage crew, who with the help ofsome talented faculty, put this show together. For all involved, this production is. and will continue to be a source of limitless show business experience. The class of 71 is starting work on its treasury. John Stuart, Senior Treasurer, informed the class at the last class meeting, that the treasury is down to one thousand dollars. At this rate, the prom bids will cost close to $25.00! The class decided to do something about this money problem. Electronics rooms is the new Senior Quad. A group of hard working Seniors have cleaned, mowed and planted in the Quad. It really looks great. It’s a nice place to go instead of sitting in a study hall for 45 minutes. I’d just like to say Thank You to all those people who helped out. do your best and sell as much candy as possible. The more money we have, the merrier we are. Sue Schecter and Scott Tallon are heading the Senior T-Shirt drive. All Seniors are urged to buy a T-Shirt and help increase the piggy bank. The T-Shirts will probably cost around $2.50 I expect to see every Senior wearing a Senior T-Shirt when they come out next month. There will be a Division Memorial faculty basketball game on Nov. 13. P-L Gray is heading the Senior Carnival. The carnival will be held on March 6 and 7. With the enthusiasm that the Seniors are showing, we should net $2,000 easy on the carnival. 1971 holds in store some big events for the Seniors. In the middle of February the Seniors will have their Senior Trip. As of yet, there are no immediate plans. There will be a meeting shortly to discuss where we’re going. April is the month we hope to hold our Senior Variety Show. A lot of people really want to get involved so the sho should really be a success. The Seniors were a little (?) disappointed to find out their Senior lounge had disappeared into a class room. But that didn’t stop us. The Seniors now claim a Senior Quad. The bricked-in- terrace off of the Technical Another big money rajsing drive is the Candy Sale which will run from November 6 through November 31. Jane Hagan, Senior Class Secretary, will be in charge of this drive. The usual chocolate almond candy bars will be sold along with a new nut; type candy. It’s up to all you Seniors to And last but not least is our Senior Prom. We have a date, place and photographer already, May 21, 1971 at El Patio in Atlantic Beach.
