Freshman year was an awkward stage in our lives as high school students. The transition from childhood to maturity was more difficult and a more gradual process than we had ever dreamed. We found ourselves in situations where the responsibilities were menial and yet we had great adjustments to make. We were obligated only to ourselves os students. We adopted an orphan—an added responsibility but by no means a burden. We willingly accepted this task and continually re- minded one another to bring in the money to support him. We did not actually have to feed, clothe and shelter him. We helped, and this was a stepping-stone towards our maturity and his growing-up.

In our Sophomore year, we became more deeply involved with all the social and academic aspects of school. We were no longer standing on the outside looking in. We could participate in many extra-curricular activities and we had our choice of many different and interesting subjects. We took on new responsibilities. Our card sale, our first money-raising effort, was a success. We also started the precedent of an annual 'Battle of the Bands.'
