get Judith Ferencz Everyone has his own set of values. Some of those which head the hst are love and freedom. I have found another one which, at times, is even more important. With it, a person can make even the most monotonous work fascinating. It can be the spark that illuminates the blackest day. This quality is wonder. Have you ever wondered why water is wet or why plastic can be rubbery or brittle? Have you ever looked at a simple can opener and wondered why it works as it does, and how the designer ever conceived of the idea in the first place? Why are people born when and where they are? lf Shakespeare would live today in Spain, would he write the same drama and poetry? How would it have changed history? Have you ever wondered about the wonder of emotions? Emotions rule the world most of the time: Hitleris hate, Jesus, love. Sometimes they are very quiet and soothingg other times they are harsh and boisterous, but they are always forceful. Have you ever wondered why the communist education is so forbidding? lt is because they have restricted all voluntary thought. lt is because they were never allowed to wonder. It is not important to memorize a list of dates or the organs of a frog. ln fact it is entirely useless to do so, unless it has sparked the flame of wonder. lf we quit wondering the day we graduate, four years have been wasted because this is the main purpose of education. Aristotle started his classes walking the streets of Athens, teaching men to wonder why. The se- cret of 'youth will never be found in a fountain. lt is found in the element of wonder. To wonder is to live. lsn't wonder wonderful? 67

Rebecca Ribovich As seniors fast approaching our high school departure, our formerly idealistic goals have of necessity become more tempered. As a result of our educational experience our aims have matured to the point that we know we are not going to change the worldf, The only result of such an impressive philosophy would be a life of futility and disappointment. Thus each of us must set reasonably attainable goals - goals that are physically, mentally and psychologi- cally feasible. These ideals then become tailor-made to each and make for a more directed and purposeful life. This type of goal-setting makes day to day living very satisfying and small things become sources of content- ment. Therefore, we as teachers, nurses, secretaries, housewives, and mothers of the future will parsue everyday tasks guided by the objectives we are setting now. Weill try to do the best we can at these tasks because our realistic objectives will reflect our academic and spiritual training. However, we don't expect to change the world. We donit expect to solve the racial problem. We don't ex- pect to stop wars. We don't expect to revolutionize menis thinking. We do expect, though, to make our homes, offices and communities a little better because of our efforts. 66

Yesterdayis troubles are in the past: tomorrow's may never be seen. God has granted us this new day to do with it as we will. Let's fill it with kindness and happiness, love, joy and good will.
