Cleveland has coached at DHS since 1960-61. His teams have never finished lower than second in district. His career record is 756-223, with a record of 723-205 while coaching at Dimmitt. Ten of his 21 playoff teams have advanced to the state tourna- ment, and three of those teams have won the championship. In his 27 years here, 27 DHS players have been named All State. There were so many new experiences in my stay here in Dimmitt. When I first heard about Dimmitt, I felt like it was a kind of a mysterious place because I couldn't find it on the map. When I first came here, I was surprised to see a lot of cows on the broad, flat land. It was strange to see a lot of different kinds of sports in school here in America like football, basketball, track, and so on, for I play soccer all year around. Although I had never played football before, I did my best on the j.V. team. I will miss football. In addi- tion, I was fond of the pep rallies with the cheerleaders and the mar- ching band. All friends of mine made my surroundings extend all the more and they also gave me friendships. I was taught what you call American tradition, like how to shake hands, how to greet people, and some other things. I remember what a friend of mine told me, What's happening hot stuff? I owe the Pybus family my special gratitude. Doug, Cheryle, and Carla regarded me as a real member of their family. We have learned a lot from each other. It was so wonderful of them to have helped me do everything throughout the year. Dimmitt is a small town, but there are some great relationships. It's the best thing! I will never forget those relatioships with all the friendly people. Whatever I experienced here will be my unforgettable recollec- tions and eternal memories. Good-bye! Klein Acker Mac and Cody Annen and Tara ADS f 165 So, the year is finally over and all that is left now are our accomplishments and our multitude of memories. lt has been year of both excitement and achievement for so many here at DHS. We excelled in an enormous number of discipline: always striving to make the most of our potential. Most important were the people of DHS, the teachers and students wh were constantly pushing to bring pride to our school. These are the times we will look back on and cherish many years int the future. lt is a crime not to hold these times in a special place close to our hearts and minds so that we can look back o them with a special sense of reverence and admiration. Hopefully this small, nevertheless complete, collection of the peopll activities, and events of 1987-88 as seen through the eyes of a DHS student will allow you to do just that. This is your yea book, a diary of the school year, intended to be as real and wonderful as the actual events of the year. We would hope that through the year you all were able to answer the question we posed to ourselves, as far back as Jul when we were planning this yearbook - Why Not?? This is, in fact, more than a single question with a simple answerg it is combination of questions and challenges. These questions have been answered and the challenges accepted and met l: you, the students of Dimmitt High School. ln all that you have done you have proved time and time again to be quite capab of answering the question - Why Not??. Just maybe there is no longer any reason for complacency and indolence in tl' halls and classrooms of DHS, nor in the activities of the various organizations. We feel there is no longer any reason fm anyone attending or having attended DHS to not make the most of each and every opportunity that comes their way. To tl student body of DHS, Why Notll is no longer a question but an answer. DHS YEARBOOK STAFF Q. 166 1 ci.osiNG WHY NOT?! WHY NOT?! WHY NOT29! WHY NOT?!
