We were wel- comed by cr new faculty and a new principal, Mr. Evans. Our class sold the most and we were feted with a dance at the Wellsville Community Hall. In October we made plans for the Farmers Day celebration. Welentered the two floats Betsy Ross and The May Queen in the parade and they 'won first and third prizes respectively. Our refreshment stand was located in front of Krall's Drug Store. We made a nice profit and lots of fun was had by all. At Christmas we exchanged names and held our party in the Home Ec. Room. 32 The second semester we greeted Mr. Willis Ramsey of York. who taught Freshman mathematics and languages. On March 4th we sponsored a skating party at Haar's roller rink. During the year several of the members of the class drew up the Constitution. We also chose our class colors of Navy Blue and White. Our school dances were held at the Allenberry Inn with music furnished by Will Fisher's Orchestra. We ended our first year .of school with a picnic at Hershey Park. L We are Sophomores: Returning in the fall of 48 after a summer's vacation, we settled down -to our Sophomore year, with Miss Stauffer and Miss Statler as home room advisors. The number of class mem- bers dropped to 52. lean Duncan moved to New Cumberland and Iohn Castle moved to Carlisle. Delores Knaub On September 29 we had a hayride and then went to Williams Grove Park for a Wiener roast. Even though it rained we had a wonderful time. In October our thoughts again turned towards Farmers Day. We entered the two floats, The First Thanksgiving and Winter 33 Wonderland in the parade. They won first and second prizes. All in all we made a large profit. The class presented the one-act play, Culcha , in assembly in November. Everyone enjoyed themselves while working on it. We had two skating parties this year. They were on Ianuary 13 and April 27. These were evenings of fun, spills and thrills. The school dances were held monthly at the Allenberry and were very well attended. - Members of the class who took part in the school operetta, Love Goes South , were Joyce Lerew, Ioan Nesbit, Shirley McClure, Charlotte Spangler, Iohn Mowery, Gene Yost, Marian Hess, and Beverly Rosenberger. The latter had the leading role. ln March we ordered our class rings from the Union Emblem Company of Palmyra. We chose the Rocket pattern. We were proud to have some of our classmates on the varsity baseball team. They were Gene Hershey, Charles Rhodes, David Rhodes, and Guy Myers. The year again ended with a picinc at Hershey Park. And now we are Iuniors: We started school this year with 47 members. Delores Knaub The class sold the most magazines in the annual drive and along, with the Freshmen were guests at our first dance at Allenberry. We entered two floats in the Farmers Day Parade. They por- trayed The First Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve . These won lst and 2nd prizes. Our decorated car won lst prize also. We also entered them in Mechanicsburg's parade, winning 2nd and 3rd prizes there. Our refreshment stand was in front of Krall's where we chanced off a radio. A large profit was made to be used on our Senior trip. , On November 10 we sponsored a skating party at Haar's rink. Our Christmas party was held in Room 3 this year and the class exchanged gifts. In January we ordered our jackets, sweaters and caps in our class colors, blue and white, from the Union Emblem Company. Dances were held monthly at the Allenberry and students were permitted to bring guests. Several members of our class played on the soccer and base- ball teams and their efforts were greatly appreciated by the class. In March the school presented the play Tattletale in the Dillsburg Community Hall. Our class sold refreshments and provided the ushers. Several of our members were in the cast, also. On May 19th, our Iunior-Senior Prom was held at Allenberry Inn. Each student was permitted to bring a guest. A A picnic at Hershey Park ended the year. At last we are Seniors- Think back to four years ago. It doesn't seem possible that we are now seniors. Forty-one members started their last year of high school in Room 4 with Mr. Kaup as class advisor. 35 We participated in the Magazine Drive and with the Sopho- mores had the privilege of selling the most. On October 10th we had our pictures taken at Ensminger's Studio in Harrisburg. The class chanced off a radio and camera at Farmers Day. Our float, The Snow Queen , won first prize in the parade. The class is proud of the fact that for four years in a row we have won first prize in floats. Our other float, Stars and Stripes Forever , did not win anything. Our decorated car won 4th prize. A nice profit was made and fun was had by everyone. The Panorama staff was named with Ioyce Lerew as Editor- in-Chief. Our dances were again held at the Allenberry monthly and students were allowed to invite guests. The school presented the play, Cheaper by the Dozen , in February. - The class sold sweatshirts, jerseys, and bandanas with em- blems on them. The Senior play, Little Women , will be given in April in the Community Hall. We leave on our trip to New York on May 21. Baccalaureate Services will be held May 26 in the Lutheran Church and on May 29 Commencement will be held in the Com- munity Hall. And now we bid farewell to our beloved Alma Mater. 36 Class Prophecy Tonight, Iune 3, 1961, we are gathered in the coral room of the Sunset Hotel in Bermuda: it is the reunion of the Class of '51 of Dillsburg High School. The centerpiece on the main banquet table is a large '51 from which blue and white streamers are passed to the place cards. The meeting is called to order by the President. Erdean Zeigler, who is the bookkeeper for Governor Fine. The class secretary, Shirley McClure, is busy taking the minutes. She is married now but has her R. N. and is practicing in a Philadelphia hospital. Nancy Krall, the class treasurer, is the chief engineer at the Capital Engineering Corporation in Dillsburg after finishing the course at Drexel Institute. Iohn Ryder, vice-president of our class, instead of becoming a machinist, has taken a position with the Trailway Bus Lines. Delores Knaub, the class historian, has com- pleted her college education at Millersville State Teachers College and is teaching at Hershey Ele- mentary Schools. The otficers of the class of '51 are to be con- gratulated on the fine work and time they have rendered to our class and toward making this re- union a success. Let's look around now and see what the rest of our classmates are doing. Helen Bricker is married to an Army officer and lives on the Middletown 'Air Base. Richard Bricker joined the Air Force after gradu- ating and is now a pilot. He is stationed at Paris Island at the present time. Ianet Binner has finished her four years at Mil- lersville and is teaching at Westem, where she spent her first years in school. Raymond Deardorff is a contractor and is busy at work with the new consolidated school. Ralph Diller, always restless, is now traveling out west after inheriting a fortune. Shirley Dick, instead of becoming a nurse, is now married and living on a beautiful farm in the Barrens Valley. Patricia Graham is also married and is helping her husband in their restaurant. Bertha Ann Gross is a painter for the Modern Pottery Company in Pittsburgh. She teaches painting in her spare time. The class is proud of Eugene Hershey who has become an ace pitcher for the New York Yankees. He has aided them a great deal in winning the World' Series. Marian Hess. who attended West Chester State Teachers College, is teaching music at our Alma Mater. h Rae Iones and Iean Myers are now nurses at the Harrisburg State Hospital after finishing their training there. Henry Kapp, Mearl Zeigler, and Eugene Yost own a large Esso service station in Harrisburg and it is said they give you good service. Ioyce Lerew has finished her schooling at Penn State and is now working as a medical technician for a doctor in the Iohn Hopkins Hospital. Iohn Mowery, always a pianist, is now playing with Vaughn Monroe's Orchestra. We're lucky to have with us Guy Myers and Charles Ditmer who are professional race drivers. They had a bad accident two weeks ago and were lucky enough to escape without too many bruises. Ioyce Nesbit and Charlotte Spangler are now married. Charlotte is her husband's private secre- tary while Ioyce is testing recipes for Good House- keeping. Ioan Nesbit and Treva Small are secretaries at the Department of Public Instruction in Harrisburg. Darlene Smith is married and living on a large chicken farm. She has twin girls. Lawrence Shank and Lewis Otto now own a large dairy farm in partnership. They have won several championships at the Pennsylvania Farm Ralph Rider is married and owns a barber shop in Rossville. David Rhodes is now a gunsmith for the James Brothers while his twin brother Charles is a scientist in one of the General Electric laboratories in Pitts- burgh. Beverly Rosenberger and Arlene Stough won honors on the Horace Heidt Show and are traveling with them now. Beverly is a soloist while Arlene is accompanying the orchestra. Nancy Pipher and Nora Townsend are secre- taries for lawyers in York. Nancy Trostle is married but holds her position as a supervisor at the Bell Telephone Company in Harrisburg. Robert Reasey is an artist for Paramount Studios in Hollywood. He did most of the printing and art work in the yearbook. Iohan Ralston is now a member partner of Le- fever Brothers. Agnes Thran is still as quiet as ever while she does her duties as secretary to Mr. Evans. After looking back over a decade of history as made by the class of '51, our prophecies have been Class Will We, the graduating class of 1951 of Dillsburg High School. York County, Pennsylvania, being of sound body, questionable soul, and possibly unstable mind, and realizing that the time is rapidly approaching when we shall leave our beloved Alma Mater, do hereby make, publish and declare this to be our last will and testament, to wit: To the class of 52 we leave our home room, our Senior advisor, and our ability to raise money. We give them our best wishes for success in their last year of high school. To the class of 53 we leave our experiences with Mrs. Habig as a class advisor and hope you find her as interesting and helpful as we did. To the class of 54 we leave the thought that in later years you will be able to join the other classes in the main building and that next year you will enjoy having Miss Stauffer and Miss Statler as home room teachers. It was given each night before a capacity audience. Principal roles in the play were taken by Mary Nelson, lohn Ryder, Darlene Smith, and Iay Knisely. Others in the cast included Kenneth McCurdy, Helen Bricker. Ioyce Lerew, Lindy Fetrow, David Karns, Nancy Krall, Nancy Trostle, Mearl Orner, George Lehmer, Beverly Rosenberger, Patricia Graham, David Tracey, Margaret Iones, Clair Orner, Kay Gasswint, and Kenneth Hollandsworth. Musical presentations were presented between acts by Arlene Stough. The story of Tattletale revolves around Patty Blaine played by Mary Nelson. She borrows a typewriter from the school office to do a script for a novel. The office reports the machine stolen. When Patty is ready to return the typewriter she finds some- one has smashed it. Deciding to buy a new one, she tries to sell her novel, but instead of mailing in her script, sends her,diary by mistake. Before the dance there was a hurry and scurry while the girls were busy filling their programs. All enjoyed dancing to the dreamy music of Will F isher's Orchestra. The hall was beautifully decorated in pastel shades. It added a spring atmosphere to the dance. A ravishing dinner of baked ham, home baked lima beans, and potato salad was served during the evening. Dancing continued until midnight. Then everyone prepared to leave, agreeing that this had been the best Prom ever held.
