SUPERINTENDENTS MESSAGE The purpose of American Education in general, and the Goldsboro City Schools in particular, is to instill in students lofty principles and to live in and contribute to the American Democracy. It is very important that students be given the tools which will make these objectives possible. To knights in the days of old, chivalry meant reverence for God, loyalty to coun- try, respect for women, mercy to defeated foes, sympathy for the weak, and high sense of honor. These basic ideals of chivalry form much of the foundation for the kind of democracy that we wish to have in America. You, the Seniors of Dillard High School, have represented your school in an admi- rable way, learned the basic skills which will enable you to continue your education, accept a place in the labor force, assume a position of respect in the society in which you will live. It is my sincere hope that you will enjoy success and find happiness in whatever you do in the future. Cordially yours, N. H. Shope, Superintendent £cCacatco t LLOYD FONVIELLE Chairman MRS. W. A. SHEPARD, JR. J. HARRY MUIR, JR.
