The Juniors were well represented on the football team. We were really proud of having John Allen elected as one of the Co-captains. The maiorettes, cheerleaders, and band did a good iob in providing spirit for the games. Our football dance was a huge success and we all had a good time. Diane Boucher did a fine job as Assistant Manager for the Magazine Drive, and we took top place in the drive. The money surely came in handy. Finally we received our class rings. We really felt like upperclassmen now. For a few days we showed them to everyone we saw. The gold door on the black onyx really looked smart. As underclassmen we had heard a lot-about the Honor Society. We were very happy when thirteen of our class members were elected to this group. With the beginning of activities, we found Barbara Jose chosen as Beacon Editor. Soon it was time for basketball. Dave Phillips and Sam Andrade were elected Co-captains. We had a good time supporting both the girls' and boys' games. The Eighth Annual Speech Contest was held and the winner was none other than our class president, William Melesky. Along came the annual Mardi Gras, put on by the French Club. Lorraine Costa and Richard Andrade made a lovely couple as our Junior attendants. Boy, were we pleased when we beat the Seniors in the Play Contest. We surely had mad rehearsals in practicing Mad Breakfast. Our one big dance, the Junior Prom, was soon upon us. The Night club setting and New York skyline provided a truly different theme. Class Day during our Junior year will always be a wonderful memory. We were next door to being Seniors! Joanne Smith and William Melesky received honors that day. Soon we would be Seniors! BACK TO WORK lN 54 MONEY, MONEY, MORE AND MORE! Our first iob in our Senior year was to choose capable leaders for the class. We elected Wallace Wood, President, Bob Silvia, Vice President, Alberta Motta, Secretary, and Liz Torres, Treasurer. For Student Council Joanne Smith and William Melesky were chosen. Because money was needed, we plunged headlong into a paper drive and a Christmas card campaign, the latter being handled by Mary Jane Mello. These proiects, along with a football dance, added a neat sum to our treasury. When the time for sports came, we were very well represented. Football season saw Allen Hay, and Bob Sherman as co-captains. The coveted award of sweaters was given to Guire Babbit, Sam Andrade, Dave Phillips, Maynard Horton, Bob Silvia, Peter Ouellette, Hartley Gurney, and, of course, Allen and Bob. Basketball season came, and Guire Babbit and Dave Phillips, Lorraine Costa and Joyce Soares were the co-captains for the boys' and girls' teams. Other Senior members were Dave French, Sam Andrade, Bob Silvia for the boys, and Jean Ashley and Roberta Hartshorn for the girls. Joyce Soares was chosen as captain of the cheerleaders. Four other Senior girls were also on the squad. Dances seemed to come along quickly, and before we knew it, the Mardi Gras had arrived. Richard Andrade and Joyce Soares reigned as king and queen over the gala affair. The floats added a good deal to the beauty of the dance. The addition of three more members to the Honor Society boosted our total to sixteen. Robert Silvia was chosen as Good Government Day representative. Jean Ashley and Dave French were selected to participate in the New England Band in Rutland, Vermont. Joanne Smith, in addition to being chosen as our D. A. R. representative, was also chosen as co- editor of the yearbook along with Barbara Jose. Mr. Scanlon did a wonderful iob as year- book advisor. The Washington trip turned out to be a wonderful one for all. We enioyed ourselves, plagued our chaperones, and came home to make up for the sleep we lost during our four days. Barbara Jose, William Melesky, and Wallace Wood were chosen as graduation speakers. At the close of the writing of this history, we find ourselves looking forward to class day, graduation, and the finalplocking at the iourney's end. A

The morning of September 5th, 1951, finally arrived, and we headed for D. H. S., no less confused than the others before us. How we managed to pull through, we'll never knowl Although inexperienced, we gained confidence in ourselves through the advisorship of Mr. Olivio Lopes, Mr. Walter Scanlon, and Mrs. Janet Kinnane. We completed our first big task by electing a capable staff of officers: Joyce Soares, President, Allen Hay, Vice President, John Allen, Secretary, Lucille Costa, Treasurer, Student Council: Bob Silvia, Jerry Cottrell. Football soon was the maior attraction, and we contributed in a large measure to the spirit of the season. John Allen, Jerry Cottrell, David Phillips, Robert Sherman, Maynard Horton, and David French represented us on the team. Jumps and cartwheels! What spirit Joyce Soares, Alberta Motta, Elizabeth Torres, and Janet Rose, our cheerleaders, had. ln January, we sponsored our first dance, the Frosh Frolick. Although it was not a huge financial success, we had fun planning it. Excitement galore: With quavering hearts, we entered the social whirl at D. H. S. Our first formal, the Mardi Gras, had Joyce Soares and Robert Sherman as attendants from our class. The Talent Show and assembly play brought forth singers, dancers, comedians, and actors. Although we lost our first play contest, we hoped to win the next year. Music and more music filled the air as we prepared to take part in the Spring Concert. Then came time for finals. We scrambled to our books and brushed up on what we had learned as Freshmen. Exams were soon over and so was our freshman year. We now belonged at D. H. S. RETURNING TO SCHOOL IN 52 WE FOUND THAT THERE WAS LOTS TO DO. We embarked feeling a little more experienced and important. We elected Robert Sherman as our President, Joyce Soares as Vice President, David French as Secretary, and Barbara Jose as Treasurer. As our Student Council representatives we chose Elizabeth Torres and Lucille Costa. Lucille was chosen Secretary of the Council and was later chosen Co-Editor of the Beacon. The football team was heavily populated with Sophomores this year. There were fifteen in number. Our treasury was boosted by a football dance, We set a precedent by sponsoring the Christmas Dance as Sophomores. On the first string basketball squad, Dave French, Dave Phillips, and Sam Andrade were chosen for the boys, Lorraine Costa and Joyce Soares were chosen for the girls. The Sophomore attendants to the King and Queen of the Mardi Gras were Robert Sher- man and Joyce Soares. ln Apriil 53 we won our first play contest. What a thrill that was for us! Mr. Usher did well at his first Spring concert and so did we. Finally June, the final month, ended our second year at D. H. S. We looked forward to being upperclassmen next year, but right then our only thought was vacation! BEARING DOWN IN 53 WE WORKED HARD, AS YOU WILL SEE. We came back in our Junior year ready to go to work. Mr. Lopes again was our class advisor. The first thing we had to do was elect our leaders. We were all very glad when William Melesky was elected our President, Elizabeth Torres, Vice President, Alberta Motta, Secretary, and Joyce Soares, Treasurer. For the Student Council we elected John Allen and Wallace Wood. ,
