'f-qqv-'mg---7' vv-----W , M... , , , - A - - vow...--4 Q fi- --I--W -. CLASS HISTORY STARTING OUT IN 5l . . . SCHOOL TO US WAS SUCH FUN. The morning of September 5th, 1951, finally arrived, and we headed for D. H. S., no less confused than the others before us. How we managed to pull through, we'll never knowl Although inexperienced, we gained confidence in ourselves through the advisorship of Mr. Olivio Lopes, Mr. Walter Scanlon, and Mrs. Janet Kinnane. We completed our first big task by electing a capable staff of officers: Joyce Soares, President, Allen Hay, Vice President, John Allen, Secretary, Lucille Costa, Treasurer, Student Council: Bob Silvia, Jerry Cottrell. Football soon was the maior attraction, and we contributed in a large measure to the spirit of the season. John Allen, Jerry Cottrell, David Phillips, Robert Sherman, Maynard Horton, and David French represented us on the team. Jumps and cartwheels! What spirit Joyce Soares, Alberta Motta, Elizabeth Torres, and Janet Rose, our cheerleaders, had. ln January, we sponsored our first dance, the Frosh Frolick. Although it was not a huge financial success, we had fun planning it. Excitement galore: With quavering hearts, we entered the social whirl at D. H. S. Our first formal, the Mardi Gras, had Joyce Soares and Robert Sherman as attendants from our class. The Talent Show and assembly play brought forth singers, dancers, comedians, and actors. Although we lost our first play contest, we hoped to win the next year. Music and more music filled the air as we prepared to take part in the Spring Concert. Then came time for finals. We scrambled to our books and brushed up on what we had learned as Freshmen. Exams were soon over and so was our freshman year. We now belonged at D. H. S. RETURNING TO SCHOOL IN 52 WE FOUND THAT THERE WAS LOTS TO DO. We embarked feeling a little more experienced and important. We elected Robert Sherman as our President, Joyce Soares as Vice President, David French as Secretary, and Barbara Jose as Treasurer. As our Student Council representatives we chose Elizabeth Torres and Lucille Costa. Lucille was chosen Secretary of the Council and was later chosen Co-Editor of the Beacon. The football team was heavily populated with Sophomores this year. There were fifteen in number. Our treasury was boosted by a football dance, We set a precedent by sponsoring the Christmas Dance as Sophomores. On the first string basketball squad, Dave French, Dave Phillips, and Sam Andrade were chosen for the boys, Lorraine Costa and Joyce Soares were chosen for the girls. The Sophomore attendants to the King and Queen of the Mardi Gras were Robert Sher- man and Joyce Soares. ln Apriil 53 we won our first play contest. What a thrill that was for us! Mr. Usher did well at his first Spring concert and so did we. Finally June, the final month, ended our second year at D. H. S. We looked forward to being upperclassmen next year, but right then our only thought was vacation! BEARING DOWN IN 53 WE WORKED HARD, AS YOU WILL SEE. We came back in our Junior year ready to go to work. Mr. Lopes again was our class advisor. The first thing we had to do was elect our leaders. We were all very glad when William Melesky was elected our President, Elizabeth Torres, Vice President, Alberta Motta, Secretary, and Joyce Soares, Treasurer. For the Student Council we elected John Allen and Wallace Wood. ,
