The Kays and Kayettes served as hosts to several schools in prepara- tion for the 1976-77 Regional Conference. The Conference took a lot of time in the planning and was well attended by 325 young people. Dare to be Yourself was the theme chosen. On Conference day everyone got to school early to do jobs in escort- ing, registering, and helping around the building. A mixer was planned so everyone could become better acquainted, then a meeting was held in the auditorium to talk about the schedule of the conference. Board members of the various towns met in brag sessions to tell about projects they had used. After a snack and sip session, movies on various personality subjects were shown. After a roast beef dinner was served by the mothers and cooks, the Hornet Singers sang. The Con- ferees returned to the auditorium where elections were held for area president. Out of a field of three candidates, Mike Cook emerged as Dist:-ict V President. Page 18. 1. Welcome to the 1976 Area Conference. 2. Register on the dotted line, please. 3. N l Thzrty-three Pep Club gzrls letter. ,gg The Pep Club began their year by sending the var- sity cheerleaders to camp and they returned with good ideas for new cheers, skits, and many tournament suggestions. The Pep Club put more effort into winning the spirit trophy at the Scott City Invitional Toumey. They performed various skits, and wore different disguises, all to get a special slogan across. The biggest event that the Pep Club sponsored was donkey basketball. Many students and people of the community participated. Overall, the turn-out was good and it made the club treasury look a lot better. The Pep Club showed off their new uniforms at both of the homecoming games by making hearts for the home coming royalty. Due to various activities thirty-three girls were able to letter. Annual staff decided to do something different this year by undertak- ing a listing of all DHS graduates. The staff found it a tiresome and sometimes frustrating activity. They contacted people from each class andconsulted past references to arrive at the list in the back of this yearbook. It covers the years 1904 to 1977. This proved to be a reward- ing and worthwhile experience and the staff learned a lot of new names of former Lane County residents. Because of last year's National Celebra- tion and Bicentennial theme this year's theme of Lane Cotmty and its Charac- teristics was chosen. Speech students fare well in contests. Competition was tough in the WKEA league and out of league competition wasn't all that easy for the Hornets either. The injury list didn't number all that large in the broken limbs department, but an ordinary bump or bruise kept some players out of play from week to week. With a record of 4-5 the Hornets were third place in league. Dighton produced four all conference players this year. Back at the school, we found the queen candidates anx- iously wringing their hands, waiiing until time to make their sparkling appearance on top of cars that were being kept under the close scrutiny of their drivers. The football guys were out on the field warming up for the big night, when the Three finally showed. They suddenly disappeared leaving Dan, Galen, and Brad to escort the girls. With participation so high there were enough for complete A and B teams. This enabled them to com- pete in matches for both gro Even though the record of UP the team was not the best, it did not reflect the effort, desire, ability, and willing- ness to learn that was put forth during the season. The girls spent a lot of time working on basics and build- ing skills for next year. Mr. jackson was sponsor for the girls golf team, Robin Greene placed fifth in the Trego County meet and Barbara and Brenda jasper placed second in the B team at Syracuse. 1. Golf Team. 2.
