Meeting The Special Meeds Of Dieruff Students Special Education wos a new program here at Dieruff. However it was nor a first for rhe Allentown School District Allen also had rhe program located at Sr Cloud Most of rhe students remained with rhe spedal education teachers for rhe entire school day However, some of rhe students attended Vo- Tech for a portion of rhe school day The reochers had to be versatile in that rhey taught rhe srudenrs each of rhe mojor subjects. Mrs. Martino Semmer, school nurse, and her secretory, Mrs. Kathy Sreckel, were available to students with medical problems. They treated ailments that ranged from broken bones to headaches. Hearing, vi- sion, and tuberculin resting as well as height and weight chedss were also conducted by rhe staff of rhe health suite.
