We are building from season to season and are definitely headed in the right direction. Recruiting is the key to a successful team and each year we have improved and built on an already strong returning team. The overall season this year was at times very successful. '‘Consistency in volleyball is Crucial , quotes Coach McDaniel. At times we were very consistent, and then there were times when we were not! We came close to winning some matches but when we lost our concentration when it really counted. This will be a main goal for us next season ' There were many areas where we improved immensely this season. I don't measure the success of our program on wins and losses at this stage. Right now we are rebuilding and I only look for more improvements next year. We established a solid core of returners, now we need to add some depth to those positions ... This will be the key ' 34 '•TEAMWORK!!! 35 Carol Hadley tries her best as Sharon Breitboch helps her up. Cathy Carlson and Carla Moe are also ready to help CROSS 36 Lon Hedlund Wes Broeder. Lisa Koch, Debbie Kuylen, Kellie Benzmiller The 1988 Football Cheerleaders were almost as busy as the Football players this season, as they were allowed to travel to the away games with the team. The highlight event for the squad was Homecoming when they per- formed a dance routine to Looking For a New Love , by Jody Watley and an army chant skit. The 1988 Men's Basketball Cheerleading Squad consisted of four scared freshmen who didn't know what to expect. Although it was a big challenge, according to Debbie Kuy- len, they were proud to be selected to cheer and support the team. The job of a mat maid consists of many duties including; cheering for the wrestling team, making posters, keeping stats, and taping the guys before their matches. According to Cyndie Hamm, being a mat maid takes a lot of dedica- tion. When you are in the room together with the wrestlers, nothing matters except one common goal, wrestling to win. 8c M A T M A I D S 51 From Bottom to Top: Dawn Book©. Cyndie Hamm. Jonette Balsam. We started in the beginning of the year going through the CSA Constitution, Insuring that it was updated. We took on many projects such as sponsoring a DSU Speech Team, a new check cashing policy for students, and sending a delegation to the State Capitol to participate in Higher Education Awareness Day. The Senate is made up of students looking out for the best interests of the student body as a whole. Even though at times it may seem we are an insig- nificant part of the University system, we were working hard to serve the students of Dickinson State University. Kris Lensegrav is leading the region in goat tying. Bobby Woodbury is dominating in barrel racing, and Sindi Johnston, the other member of the women's team and president of the Rodeo Club, was the women's all- around winner at the rodeo held in Rapid City in January. On the men's team, Arlie Hulm is currently leading the region in calf roping and is also a strong competitor in the team roping and bull dogging events. Darin Good is leading in bull dogging and Greg Carlson is a strong contender in the calf roping event. Other members of the men's team are Seth Weishaar, Troy Peterson, and Scott Thorson. Although eoch school is limited to a team of 3 women and 6 men, other individuals are allowed to compete at the college rodeos. Non-team members who are competing from DSU this year are Nicole Staudinger. Sandy Cdrlson. Neilie Tibbs. Reed Kramer, Casey Olson, Todd Hall, Ty Lawlar, and Wade Marmon. These rodeoers can accumulate individual points, but the points do not apply to the school's total when calculating the team standing.
