SPECIAL EVENTS HOMECOMING Chief ond Princess In traditional costume. Watch out. here I come! Homecoming week was held October 14-20. The week wos filled with many fun activities ond ended with o parade and the football game following. The Hawks were victorious over the NDS5S Wildcats by the score 39 to 14. The student body chose Jim Dolezal, Kllldeer. and Kari Winczewski. Dickinson, as their Chief and Princess for Homecoming 1985. The Music Deportment won fop honors dur- ing Homecoming. The award for the Best Float was won by the Music Department and the Blue Hawk Brigade, who per- formed at half-time won the Spirit Award. January 25-27. Rik Walter, a senior, directed the four performances. In a performance that show casted outstand- ing individual talent. Hilltop '66 will probably best be remembered as having confusion os the main focol point in place of the locol talent. Three main themes ran throughout the show. First, there was the street scene which was start- ed by the opening acts. Second, there was the variety show which could be found in the skits. AS YOU LIKE IT For this first time since 1979, o ploy of William Shakespeare's was performed on the stage of Stick- ney Auditorium. The DSC theatre deportment present- ed As You Like It” Nov. 1,2,3 ot 7:00 pm. The cost members consisted of 25 student ond community members. Director Jeon Waldera commented thot the amount of time thot the cost put into rehearse was o big asset. Woldero chose o setting 1460 to pinpoint historical accuracy in costumes creating a pre-Elizobethon look. The ploy was o smashing success! For his senior project. Walter performed in Vincent” a nationally toured ploy by Leonard Nimov. They play centers on the life of artist Vincent Van Gogh through the norrotion of his brother Theo. The ploy Is o one-man show. Rik Walter paints to portroy his port In Vincent . BECOMING MEMORIES” Members of the Illusion Theater Company in a scene from Becoming Memories”. One of the highlights of Dickinson's Winterfest was o single performance of Becoming Memories” by the Minneapolis based Illusion Theatre. The play, a rich topestry about the generation of Americans born at the turn of the century, interweaves the lives of five midwestern families - their courtships, marriages, and dreoms. The Dickinson Arts Council and the North Dakota Council on the Arts sponsored the event. 27 The comedy ploy. Blithe Spirit brought loughter os Jeff Meod. Jeon Woldero. Kristi Scheeler. ond Julee Lundberg performed. BLITHE SPIRIT” British humor is the DSC stoge in Noel Coword’s ‘Blithe Spirit”, in the Stickney Auditorium. This ploy is one of the most stoged British comedy ploys. This is o play in which the audience con sit bock ond enjoy the characters. The funniest port was how quickly the characters ond audience accept the changes raking place. OK where did the little creeps go? 29 Jeff Mead celebrotes after o performance, just like the storsl COUNTRY AND WESTERN JAMBOREE Dickinson Stole College's Scott Gym wos transformed info Dickinson's very own ’Grand Ole Opry' this year os oreo talent competed in the 17th annual Country-Western Jombo- ree. More than 55 acts competed in categor- ies of male vocalist, female vocolisf. bond, instrumentalist, vocal group and novice. The grand prize winner, as determined by the performance judges (Orion Fischer. Mary Will- son. ond Ray David) receives the Archie N. Hill Country Music Award, an oll-expense- paid trip to Nashville. Tenn. The jamboree started with afternoon audi- tions on Thursday and Friday os the three audition judges (Anne Marie Granier. Marv Allen and Deb Sebastian) weeded out the tolent for Friday and Saturday night's perfor- mances. It came to an end Saturday night as the judges made their selections of the top performers. The Country-Western Jamboree is the lar- gest source of income for the DSC Rodeo Team and is put on in cooperation with the DSC Ag Club. The Tibor Brothers provide their talents os the backup band for both the auditions and performances, while rodeo onnouncer Jim Thompson wos the jamboree's master of cere- monies. 30 31 Steve Carlson was in charge of the production. 32 Art Rude sings about Form Aid and Reagan. Rondy lemm strums his guitar while he sings. ATHLETICS FOOTBALL Af the beginning of the season DSC wos picked os one of the fovorites to win the NDCAC title. DSC finished the seoson with o 7-2 overoll record ond second in the conference with o 4-1 record. Our Dlue Howks provided mony exciting gomes, but the most memora- ble wos the comeback gome against Chodron State here at Whitney Stadium . . . DSC trailed the Eagles 34-6 halfway through the 3rd quarter. Then the Howks decided to motivate and scored 37 points to win the game 43-40, in the true Dlue Hawk Spirit! He's gof oil the right moves. By the middle of the season, the team was boost- ing their win streak to three meets by capturing first place at the DSC Blue Hawk Gomes and the Minot State Invitational track meet.
