Text from Pages 1 - 130 of the 1963 volume:

FOREWORD Here lived and loved another race of beings. Beneath the same sun that rolls over your heads the Indian hunter pursued the panting deer . . . The Indian of falcon glance and lion bearing, the theme of the touching ballad, the hero of the pathetic tale, is gone. Here on the vast plains of North Dakota the Indian lived. Now we live here; we grow and we learn. We are constantly moving forward toward new goals and ideals, but we cannot forget the past for it is a part of us. When you read the 1963 PRAIRIE SMOKE, remember D.S.T.C. and the events of a year. Remember that we were not the first to inhabit the plains nor are we the last. We are a part of history being made. from Charles Sprague The American Indian TABLE OF CONTENTS TITLE PAGE...............................I DEDICATION...............................2 FOREWORD.................................3 TABLE OF CONTENTS........................4 DIVISION: ADMINISTRATION AND FACULTY.....8 DIVISION: ORGANIZATIONS AND ACTIVITIES. . . .26 DIVISION: ATHLETICS.....................62 DIVISION: CLASSES.......................78 GOVERNOR WILLIAM GUY N. The annual parade took place Saturday morning in a drizzling rain. The only sour note of Homecom- ing was the defeat of the Savages by the Mayville Comets but 1963's Homecoming was still considered one of the most successful. 58 Chief Dave Larson receives headdress from retiring chief's replacement, Dave Bureth.
