Wienbergen, DSTC Athletic Director and Basketball Coach. Most pre-season predictions made by sports writers were that Minot would repeat as conference champions with Ellendale pushing them hard for the crown. As it turned out though, Minot finished second to a surprising Mayville team which ended the regular season undefeated. Our Savages tied with Valley City for third place with a 10-6 record. When Bud Perry broke his leg in the second game of the season, Coach Wienbergen lost one of his starting forwards. The Savages lose only two men by graduation. They are Captain Louis Oldenburg and Larry Hook Otterson. Even with this loss through graduation, the Savages can be expected to field a strong team next season if the other lettermen return. The Junior Varsity was coached by LeRoy “Pudge Beaudoin. “Pudge was captain of last year’s Varsity Team. He was not eligible for varsity participation this year. However, he did not let his basketball ability go to waste. Under his guidance the Jayvees won 11 games and lost 9 games. The above pictured golf team of 1955 competed in three tournaments. Ted Easton tied for fourth place at Minot. At Valley City the team placed third with a 611 team score. Minot won it with a 537 score, Jamestown, with Medalist winner Bruce Hanna, was runner-up. Valley City finish- ed fourth with a 613 score. The unexperienced team competed in one other tournament. This was at Bismarck, where they finished fifth. During the spring of ’55 the Savage Tennis Team continued to show supremacy in that event, as they tied for the title. Only once since the war has a DSTC tennis team failed to win or tie for the Championship. This year they shared top honors with the Minot team. The Dudley-Uecker combination won most of their matches, and Captain Uecker was extremely tough in the sing- les. The track team, however, was not as success- ful. In their first meet at Jamestown they finished fifth. At the Minot meet, second place was the most they could get. Miss Schumacher came to the Dickinson State Teachers College in the fall of 1948 to teach Physical Education to both College and Model High School girls. Her home state is Wisconsin and she is a graduate of the Milwaukee High School. She received a Bachelor of Education degree at the La Crosse State Teachers College, La Crosse, Wisconsin; took graduate work at Columbia University, New York; and has a Master of Arts degree from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri. Prior to coming to the Dickin- son State Teachers College, Miss Schumacher taught at Dakota Wesleyan University, Mitchell, South Dakota. During the second World War she served her country in Red Cross work as a Chief Director of Hospital Recreation. She has spent a number of summers in the supervision and direc- tion of Playground and Recreation Activities in the cities of Monroe and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She has also taught Special Physical Education for the mentally and physically handicapped children at the Lapeer State Home and Training School, Lapeer, Michigan. Dancing is her hobby and she conducts several classes in dancing for pre-grade school children on Saturday mornings. Miss Schumacher is deeply interested in girls and in their physical, social and personality development. She realizes the value of Physical Training for good sportsmanship and friendly competition, both in school work and in recrea- tional activities.
