Everyone is interested to seen beforehand who may be gaining the public's favor. D.S. T.C. conformed to this trend. Polls were not only taken to see who would be president of the U. S. but there were campus polls probing in to class cutting, polls to find out how marks are made and probably the most important and far reaching one was the campus popularity concensus. This poll was sponsored by the Prairie Smoke. The final tabulations were amazing in showing the large num- ber of people selected by the voters. Ten votes in one's favor would have carried him or her in any one of the characteristics. The questionnaire included such questions as, Which wom- an and what man had the best figure, which man and wom- an were the best scholars, or who displayed the best leadership qualities. In all cases a man and a woman were to be named for each posititon. The poll was, perhaps conducted a little too early in the school year, as many freshmen and sophomores would surely 'have gained more votes. The final compilation showed juniors and mostly seniors capturing che votes. There were four cases of tie votes in which two individuals were named for a particular quality. Myrtle Erickson gained the greatest number of votes in being named tops in three things-Scholarship, Disposition and Neat Appearance. She also was untied in any of these features. Myrtle is a senior. Arleen Zimmerman, a junior, was next in popularity in the girls division by being tops in two departments-figure, and leadership. Yolanda Truede, a junior, gained top favor in the sportsmanship selection. Jeannette Trzynka, a senior, and Ber- nice Markel, a sophomore, tied for having best facial features. Don Johnston, a senior, and George Amsden, a junior, tied for having the best physiques. Bob Oldenburg, a senior, was tops as scholar. His report card as well as the poll says so. Later in the year, when quizzed about how to get good marks, he explained, hitting the books was the only sure way. ln the suave department Teddy Uecker, a sophomore, was victorious. lt must have been the blue suedes because he didn't get the grey flannels until the winter quarter! It just takes a married man to show up the would-be-Beau Brummelsf' Bob Oldenburg and Marv Weiss were involved in a tie for leadership honors. They both proved their capabilities for this durinfz basketball season. Bob lcd the team, and Marv the fans. Bud Dire was favored for showing best sportsmanship. Bud exhibited this quality during football season and later during the year. He was also elected football captain for '53. Bob Krogh and Peanuts Flynn were tied for exhibiting the best disposition. Both are seniors. fWhere they are going they'll probablv need it.l Editor's note: Korea? Bob Krogh also was credited with the best facial features. You Korean veterans that enrolled late will just have to wait until next year if you aren't activated again before then. lt was nice being popular around Chun Chan and Osaka anyhow. :B SOME OF THEM - w .
