Page 11 text:

Imaginative and forthright, Professor Schecter has contributed important advances to the Collegeis educa- tional program with his development of an audio-visual technique to simplify the task of reading music. He per- sonally organized and directed the first College band and orchestra. and his outstanding work in English litera- ture earned him an appointment to the Thomas Beaver Chair of English at Dickinson in 1958. The Beaver Chair is one of the oldest in the Collegeis history. It is to one of Dickinson,s itOld Guardf a man whose teaching has inspired hundreds of men and women over the years, that the MICROCOSM dedicates its 1963 edition. :am 88?: : i6I know him, I have seen him teach and I have seen the results of his teaching. I believe him to be one of the greatest teachers at Dickinson in my time? ,- In his forty-first year at Dickinson, Professor Ralph W. Schecter has built a reputation as one of the most versatile and inspiring of all Dickinson teachers. Few men have been able to enlighten so many fields as has Professor Schecter and the fondness in which he is held by his former students is evidenced by their constant inquiries and visits. Since coming to Dickinson in 1922, he has enriched the lives of students in three fields: music, English, and public speaking. Schecter has SO successfully combined a love of music with a love of teaching that his students refer to him as the tiold Masteriy in both subjects.
